Is Iowa wrestling not recruiting PA wrestlers?

Cornell built a relationship with him since he was a freshman. They started young and built it. That's what should be happening. Start with the top Iowa kids.
Like it or not this is typically what it takes for most schools to land high end kids. Carl has built enough street cred to grab kids just by reaching out but other schools including Iowa need to be on them building relationships as soon as allowed.

Spot on with that.

You should think again about how a Ferrari affects recruiting. That family has already cost your team a top p4p recruit who switched to a hated rival.
Angelo seems to have a friendly relationship with other top guys. His personality is more low key than his brothers.

Well, for the sake of the young man I hope it works out for him. But most reflect their environment and his was toxic. How will you keep AJ out of CHA and therefore from making a scene?

Are you still making "fun" of a guy who lost his son to suicide? You are a despicable human being.
I never said anything about a suicide. I definitely never made fun of him for it. That was squashed between Johnstownsteel and I. No reason to drag that crap here from another website. Mind your business

Here is your exact quote that started the whole mess. You knew full well that this guys son had committed suicide when you said this.

"I bet you talked to your son like that aswell."

Here is a link. The coward never apologized but he did delete his post. Luckily it had already been replied to so here is one of those replies that contains the quoted material.

Open wound, but maybe, just maybe, let’s see if “not” dredging it up starts a little healing. Whatever actually transpired or was interpreted to mean, there’s a chance these two men have moved past it. Maybe we give them that space, and use the incident as a reminder to keep our digs and needles on the playful side, absent anything about family.
It’s admirable that you have Steel’s six, but, hell, we got Oly trials and Istanbul qualifiers to debate across both camps. Gotta admit, I’d love to see a Lee/Gilman bout.

I never deleted anything. The mods may have. He called me a cocksucker and a cun* repeatedly at the drop of a hat, and I asked if he talked to his kid that way. Big deal.

It's been over for months now. Keep that crap off this board. Posting links back to BWI so you can bring drama here? Come on man. Nobody cares

Not cool to bring up someone’s kid who passed away regardless. Calling each other names is whatever, but why bring his child that has passed into it?

Bunch of drama queens
Drama kings!!! Such misogyny. 😉

Seriously, the offended can use ignore (or not). Like I might ignore some on HVI but not GIA based on whatever feeling du jour, including mood and impatience. Then I'll just as likely unignore them later, after I've forgotten the "reason."

What's with the anonymous handle persecution anyway? As one who was lobbied to be put on ignore, en masse (and who is occasionally insulted both on HVI and GIA) I can relate.

I've been trying for years to get them to ignore me if they can't handle my heat. They just don't for whatever reason. I think they just love me too much to let go;)

Healing would start when this guy actually apologizes. There is no transgression that should ever cause someone to say such a vile thing and have no remorse what so ever. He has held steadfast that his remark is ok because he was called some names. smh

Fair point. Foolish of me to try to defuse what can’t be. After all, he’s the same small man who made that sick, demeaning reference about Bourdeaux’s daughters (since removed on HVI), so attacking one’s family isn’t new to him. Playful heat is different than callous cruelty, and far from wanting to be ignored, this one seeks attention like a please-please-notice-me teen girl. Playing the victim suits him. It’s the last resort for authors of defenseless acts.
He can have the last word against my post. He’s worth no more of mine.

It seems funny that whenever we had the 5 PA kids starting the PSU fans bitched and complained that we only beat them because we had PA kids but yet they only had 3 or 4 kids from PA as starters on their own team....Now we act like PA is the only mecca of recruits...we need Iowa to start evaluating talent BEFORE they start getting all of the top interest and accolades and start building relationships with these kids that gives them confidence and familiarity with the Iowa program so that whenever they do turn into top recruits we are not knocking on their doors and explaining that we aren't Mormons and we aren't selling Windows by Anderson.... these kids need to know we are genuinely interested in them long before everybody else is. We need more visibility and face and name recognition... Make Spencer the recruiting specialist... his name still carries a lot of clout and should only get better with the Trials success .
Bringing facts and logic with calmness to a summer wrestling forum?? Blink twice if you are being held hostage :)

No way. I disagree! Bassett is a Young Guns kids and Spencer Lee could have a lot to do with that. Bo fits the Iowa mold. So many other good kids out in PA coming up that they can start recruiting if they aren't already. Get the top Seabolt kids and get back in PA recruiting those kids. What did Smalls say? I missed that.
Bo fits the Iowa mold? The kid is brutal, strong, tough as nails and well conditioned which is very much the Iowa mold. However, he is an offensive juggernaut which is not the Iowa mold.

Iowa with its history, tradition and fan support is always a consideration but the if the kid goes someplace not named Penn State it will be one of the OSUs and because of the proximity to family I suspect OhioSU is more likely than OkieSU.

Of course, I could be wrong. Just my take.

I agree that PSU is the lead for Bassett, but with the way Bo probably wants to he thr face of the program it gives Iowa a big chance. Also, I don't believe distance matters in a case like Bo. I'm sure his parents have the means to either move to where he goes(Like Larry Lee did) or be able to keep a home in PA and a home in Iowa/Okie State. This is a wrestling family that will support their son in any way possible. Just my thoughts

News flash: college wrestling was around for decades before you started following it back in 2010.

Another question, why do you guys get off so much on coming to another team’s board and bumping threads that have been dormant for months or years?

It was on first page, I just started reading and responded.
I do post responses to irritate some of you and the reason is because so many of you are yourselves irritating and have been forever. However, this was simply a response to a post I wanted to respond to.

There you go, an explanation.

PS.
I have been going to college wrestling matches since the 1960s. Attended my first NCAA tournment at College Park MD in the late 70s and have been to more than 20 of them. I have been posting on college wrestling message boards since early in Sunderland's tenure and have had PSU season wrestling tickets since the 1980s. Your pathetic attempt at belittlement or superiority is rather humerous, and one of the reasons most of you clowns get so little respect from PSU fans on this message board.

Despite your general dickiness have a great 4th.

Iowa fans don't do that on their site. In fact there are only about 4-5 Iowa fans that even post on their board regularly.

They are sensitive and only want to dish it out. They certainly can't take it.

Only sunshine and rainbows are allowed over there

Oh. Well if this is true it just reinforces you’re being obtuse.

I hope posting here continues to get your dick hard.

I don’t disagree, Tom should be bringing it a bunch of recruits to train, even if they don’t pick Iowa to wrestle at it’s important to build the relationship and maybe we get a second shot at them in the portal.
You do know there are NCAA rules regarding bringing kids in to train? A college program can't have kids practice in their room, and coaches can't observe the kid practicing etc. An RTC can have high school kids come into RTC practice, but they must qualify for RTC criteria (the type of recruits we are talking about obviously qualify) and they must live within 200 miles of the RTC. That pretty much eliminates bringing in PA kids etc. to practices....

Mario Hutcherson the #1 kid in his class was brought in to train and he’s from Pennsylvania.

Are you merely stating something, or are you trying to say I'm wrong? I don't post much, but when I do post something as fact (and not an opinion), it is only b/c I know I am 100% correct. See the RTC Rules below:
  1. A PSA must live within 250 miles of an RTC to participate in practice. If there is no RTC within the boundaries listed above, the PSA may join the closest RTC to his residence by applying for an exemption through USA Wrestling.
    1. The 250 mile radius is determined by using the home address of the athlete to the zip code of the regional training center.
    2. Once a PSA has signed a National Letter of Intent, the 250 miles radius rule is no longer applicable and that PSA may attend the RTC of their choice.."

An athlete may also sign up and attend a wrestling camp hosted at the school as a way to get around the rule regarding visits and practices.. But, my quote with the reply to the post on bringing in guys to practice is still 100% accurate. A one off example of a kid who has not started his freshmen year of high school yet (has not reached the age limit for contact rules etc.) does not change the rules, or my correction or clarification of the comments of bringing guys in..

Exactly right. That’s why I said if AJ really had intl aspirations, he would attend a small PA university like Lock Haven and be able to drive 30 minutes to the NLWC.
