Is it bad that I'm not even upset?

We don't have the athletes. We don't have coaches with any imagination or creativity. QB play is non existent and has been for a long time.

Overall, college sports are not what they use to be with NIL and Portal. We will never be able to compete with either......NEVER!

This bowl game was coached like mid 2000s Iowa games. Felt like that 10 point lead was the worst thing that could happen as they went pretty conservative. I also felt the really big momentum shift was that 3rd and long up 10 and the defense just rushed 4 giving QB 2 years to throw. They convert and then go on to score the TD.

It’s actually very healthy. Letting things you don’t contribute to or impact in any way, outside of screaming at a game which is minimal, is a sign of emotional maturity.

It’s always so predictable too

Damn my father for passing down Iowa sports to me
I watch every game start to finish just because as an alumnus, it’s part of who I am. The first thing I did when I visited the campus my senior year of high school was head to Kinnick and watch Iowa-Michigan. I just can’t seem to shake that. But I have little to no emotional investment in the games’ outcomes anymore.

I’ll be 60 next year and I’ve come to the realization that my alma mater will never compete for anything meaningful in football the rest of my lifetime. Probably sunk in for good after the MSU gut punch in 2015 followed by the Rose Bowl debacle. And that’s okay. There are literally billions of other people who would love for that to be their worst problem.

I was not able to watch until the end of the third quarter. I was out with a couple of my fellow retirees for the end of the game. I basically called the 4th quarter to them to a “T”. I said Iowa would turn it over. They did. I then said Missouri would go down and score. They did.

Then I said the Hawks would punt. They did. I said Missouri would score to take the lead. They did. I said Iowa would not move the ball and end up giving it back to Missouri. They did.

But I was wrong about Missouri’s next possession, because I said they would run the clock out. When Iowa got the ball back in EXCELLENT field position, I said the Hawks wouldn’t even get a first down. They didn’t.

I wasn’t being negative, I had just seen this movie too many times before. Iowa’s offense is just not capable of putting a drive together at the end of a game to win on anything close to a consistent basis. Sullivan’s pathetic QB sneak made me laugh out loud. They looked like the Keystone Kops.

Oh that’s BS against a team like Mizzou. That wasn’t Ohio State out there. We have plenty of athletes. We pushed their d line all over the field.

I'm mad at the coaches. Not 1 defensive adjustment the entire game?
Missouri has an NFL QB. So why would you only rush 4 and let him sit back and pick apart everything.

I would say this is Phil's worst year as a coach. The secondary was putrid at every position. Not one player got better other than maybe Harris or Hall. Lee is just not big enough at this level. Schulte and X were just not good. X will probably transfer which might be best for everyone. I'm not trying to say I'm an expert at all but watching him at State against Ankeny (Bruce and Brecht) showed a few warning signs. It got much worse from there.

Expecting the turnover that never came. :(
This is why I've always laughed at the people who brush off the shortcomings of the offense and even the defense by pulling out the "turnover" card. Sure, the team looks great getting a bunch of fumbles and INTs but there is no possible way to control that. It's basically luck.

Win or lose, who really remembers or truly cares about a bowl game. They're played at half staff and no recruits probably base any decisions on where they go based on some meaningless bowl gameplay. They're nothing but a reward for the players to go somewhere on somebody else's dime for a week. Which ain't a bad thing if you're a player.

I don't understand why we did not blitz their QB. I also think a decent QB coach could develop Sullivan into an above average player.

Is 8-5 fireable?

No.

Do any of us have any true skin.in the game, or influence? Prob not.

Gotta enjoy the success, get over the failures. Be at least slightly glad there is more success than failure.

Turnovers aren’t luck, particularly interceptions. They are combination of a good pass rush and DBs with good anticipation and awareness. This defense had neither virtue and we blitzed very little this year as well because our safeties were piss poor as well.

Frankly, I was probably more disappointed in the secondary more than any other position group this year.

Yes, obviously you need awareness and anticipation as you say but even the most disciplined defense needs either the QB to make a bad throw or a tipped ball which is definitely luck. Very few INTs are a defender genuinely making an amazing play on the ball, especially at the college level.

Unfortunately this is my reaction after iowa football games for 10+ years now

Does PP even recruit anymore? that D was soft slow and small … used to the soft pass coverage and getting ran over by the better teams but this year even bad teams like UCLA and Nebby did it
Next year YIKES ! Oregon might score 70

I'm just in it for the participation in the game threads anymore, the game itself is just the sideshow.
Exactly. I stopped caring long ago. I never thought that would happen. That's why I hate the man in charge. The only enjoyment I get at this point is laughing my ass off at the airhead trying to run a program. That's why I watch the games now... for the laughs.

Kaptain Fossel doesn't care what fans think.
And influential boosters just like smoozing with him on the winter cruise.

So, nothing changes.
Beth isn't risking pissing off the people that sign the checks.

Iowa fans are just stuck.
Kirk is an arrogant SOB at this point and I despise him for not putting a competent passing game together. It’s a joke. He hasn’t accomplished anything of importance with the program since 2010 Orange Bowl win. He remains behind the times.

That is his only achievement. Shared conference titles are meaningless. If he was coaching an All-Madden team against pre-schoolers, he'd make sure he lost that, too.

If you have actually seen our defensive lineman, LBs, or Entringer, up close, you would not say they look small.

This is where I’ve been with Iowa football … hell, even basketball … for several years. We will never be elite like a Michigan or Ohio State or Oregon or Alabama in football or Duke or North Carolina or any of the monster programs in hoops. We’re Iowa. We don’t have the natural area to draw from for top athletes and NIL has only further separated the big boys from the rest of us. Iowa is NOT a big boy program.

Reality:

- Iowa will never win a CFP championship.
- Iowa men’s basketball will never make it to the Final Four. (Without a generational player like a Caitlin Clark, it’s doubtful the Iowa women ever get that far again, either.)

So for Hawkeye fans maybe 7-5 or 8-4 and a bowl appearance is good enough. Anything above that, hey that’s great.

And maybe getting through the first round games in basketball ought to be a measure of success.

We’re just li’l ol’ Iowa.

Oh come on now. That's totally ridiculous. Say what you want about KF, but he is probably undefeated against preschoolers.

Now, middle schoolers on the other hand...
