or have we as a society finally moved beyond such overtly racist concepts such as that?

Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating black history.

Even the old white guys we elect into office feel we should recognize the achievements of the African Americans of history.

OP, should we throw President's day away too? I mean do we really need to recognize a couple of old white guys?

Realistically, given the impact that blacks have had on our society, we really only need a week. Maybe three days.

The Locks are definitely dumb enough to celebrate Roman Polanski.
It is big in Washington DC. Everyone goes to this one Pizza Parlor. Democrats love it.

Really popular in Hollywood, but I heard they are skipping it this year. Next year will be a blowout though.

what do you mean "a couple of old white guys?" 1/4 of our last two presidents was black, and that's a higher percentage than the overall population of black people (14%ish).

So for 11 months of the year we can ignore their achievements? President's day is a country thing, not a racial thing, especially now since we've had a black pres

I have a compromise on this. . .

We have a black history month every Feb. until we pull down all the statues and monuments honoring men who are primarily known in history for their efforts to keep black people enslaved.

As soon as all those statues and monuments are out of the public square, then February can stop being black history month and we can just call black history party of history.

Because obviously when we still have statues in the public square honoring men who are primarily known for fighting to keep black people enslaved, then black people's proper placement and treatment in American history is still questionable.

But once we stop honoring people for their efforts to keep black people enslaved then maybe we are giving black people's historical acheivements and place in history the proper respect.

And for the record you can't have a statue of say Lee up in Military uniform on a horse and claim you are honoring him for his service as president of a small obscure university.
