I agree. There is a point where you have to put aside your fears of being called a racist or Islamaphobe and admit that people are being killed and mutilated. And that hundreds of millions of people think that's okay. It's not about the nice Muslims you know. Of course you don't want to see them persecuted. But there is a large number that support the violence and terror. Much greater than the president's claim of .1 of one percent. If we don't admit that obvious truth we can only prepare ourselves for more terrorist attacks. Ben Affleck means well but his mindset of refusing to see the reality just means more terrorist victims.
Correct, and it is part of the overall issue of deflecting where the focus should be, and that's on a set of beliefs that aren't compatible in our world (and never were). But constantly saying Islamic groups have nothing to do with Islam hurts the cause.
Attacking the beliefs, and not the people is what she and others are calling for. But liberals seem to get too hung up on "feelings" or minority status (I'm a liberal btw) and it derails any meaningful talk.
There is a small faction of Muslims that want death and destruction to the world (there are a few on the xtian side too). We will never change or win over their hearts and minds.
The issue is with the other barbaric beliefs that are held by the hundreds of millions of others in that faith.
Women's rights, homophobia, religious tolerance, capital punishment, etc
All human rights issues that seem to be ignored by the liberals when any talk about Islamic societies come up. Instead it's turned against us seeking change as being racist (how is Islam a race?) or religion shaming (and these liberals had no issues generalizing an entire catholic faith as pedophiles).
If the Islamic world can start making changes to the basic human right issues listed above, we'll see less and less destruction and horror.
Politics play a part in that region too, and the West can do more in that regard, but one of the main causes of this pain is a horrible set of beliefs that haven't changed in 3000 years.
We have a certain poster who cries islamophobia daily. I don't care if you are a Muslim, but in this country you're not going to get your way by acts of violence.
Also, what was said in the video about traveling to Europe from Syria freely and being part of this refugee group is a real danger. You don't need millions of ISIS members to do great damage. We've seen a handful of ppl with extremist views change this country.

Spot on and I for the life of me cannot think of any reason why the usual suspect liberals here are so tentative on pointing it out. IMO this lack of consistency in calling out bad ideology (and it is bad ideology) comes down to skin color. It appears ones race trumps bad ideas for some of our local Afflecks.
I can think of some reasons. #1 their main man Obama refuses to ever utter the words "isis" or "Islamic terrorism" or " radical islam ". he thinks all muslims believe in peace. or he says he does. I know he doesn't really think this.

I think environment has a lot to do with it, so yes some of these people would commit murder but not nearly as many IMO.

Islam seems to be the unifying factor that allows a group like ISIS to attract so many followers. Now if Islam or religion didn't exist they would probably just use govt as their rallying ideological point to get together but, as stated in the video, that second circle of Muslims are indeed trying to do that by gaming democracy and using its own rules against itself.
Islam (or any religion) just greases the wheels on creating the environment to get these people together...its the unifier.

Why do percentages matter? Are there "Christians" who commit atrocities in the name of their religion? Yes. Are there people who disavow ALL religion who commit atrocities that make Daesh look like amateurs? Yes.
