From the article:
"After the Nazi occupation of Hungary in 1944, pupils in Jewish classes (which included Soros) were sent to council offices to work as messengers for the Jewish Council. The body, also known as the Judenrat, organized the identification and registration of Jews, which ultimately led to labor and death camp deportation.

Soros was asked to send messages to people in several parts of Budapest, but Tivadar, upon reading the messages, told the then-14-year-old that they were, in essence, deportation orders to be given to a list of Jewish lawyers.

Tivadar instructed his son to send the messages but to warn these people that if they followed the instructions to report to the Jewish Council, they would be deported.

Soros said: "I remember one man I went to see who told me, 'You know, I have always been a law-abiding citizen—I haven't done anything wrong—so I have no reason to disobey this order, and I am sure that nothing terrible can happen to me.'

"And when I went back and told my father about it, we had another conversation about rules, what rules you obey, and what rules you break."

After Soros delivered the messages, Tivadar told him to stop working at the council."

Cruising for a half-staff Goldjob, no doubt. He seems like the kind of guy that would wear dirty track pants with no underwear, so should work out well for both parties.

Where's the "I don't know" option? I looked at a few videos from that era and found the definition:

The Salute:
The salute was executed by extending the right arm stiff to an upward 45° angle and then straightening the hand so that it is parallel to the arm. Usually, an utterance of "Sieg Heil", "Heil Hitler!", or "Heil!" accompanied the gesture.

History:
The Nazi salute was not invented by Adolf Hitler or Benito Mussolini, nor is it limited in time to the Second World War or in place to Europe. The salute dates all the way back to the Roman Empire and is properly known as the Roman salute (Saluto Romano).

Historian Opinion:
Historian A: Historian of fascism here. That was a Nazi salute - and a very belligerent one too.

Historian B: ...this gesture is not a Nazi salute. This is a socially awkward autistic man's wave to the crowd where he says, "my heart goes out to you."

Nah, it’s a Nazi salute. Because unbalanced people who spend time on an anonymous message board say so. What is revealing is they actually believe what they post. It’s a bit scary, but fortunately people at this level can’t really afford to go to the places I go to, so not a direct threat to me. Indirect threat because they vote? Certainly.

It's why I refuse to put on a team jersey. I'd like to think for myself.

Half staff eh? Wasn’t that your nickname in high school? 😂

Arguing whether or not it's a "Nazi salute" and arguing whether or not "Elon is Nazi" are two different things. As usual, everyone is talking past each other.

I think it's true that it was a Nazi salute.

I think it's also true that Elon isn't really a Nazi, but rather is a mega troll, rivaled only by Trump himself. This is a the guy who thought it was funny to say he wanted to taking Tesla private at "420.69". This is the guy who came out with Tesla Models "S", "3", "X", and "Y" because of the word it spelled.

Elon knew exactly what he was doing. He's super dork who made what he probably thinks is a funny gesture, except he's the only one who is in on the joke. Lot's of people make inappropriate jokes, all of the time, and they frequently fall flat, and they suffer the consequences when it crosses the line. Elon is probably un-cancelable though, due to his wealth and influence.

I agree with this. Put a mask over Elon and show that clip to people. 10/10 will agree it’s a nazi salute. There’s no real logical argument to say it’s not imo.

To be clear I’ll defend, and allegedly have defended, their right to free speech. This said, that doesn’t prevent me from not engaging them. Which I’ve put myself in a position to do. I tend to vote for one party more than the other, but even that party has people complicit in the fleecing of average citizens. I don’t get upset by it, I invest on it. Their reactions are largely predictable in the short term. As are certain markets reactions , but that is almost always short term.

The first is about identifying a fact or occurrence--whether the gesture is, in fact, a Nazi salute. The second is about interpreting intent--whether or not someone is actually a Nazi. Understanding intent helps us evaluate the significance of the act itself, making it either valid or invalid based on context.

Au contraire. It is you who is the liar.

In this clip George admits to aiding his fake Godfather confiscate property from the Jews in Hungary and explicitly states he has no guilt over his actions.

Psychopath.

These are the same people who thought Kamala Harris would win the 2024 election in a landslide.

I guess then the question becomes, now what? Does an action automatically define someone? Because of the action is Elon a Nazi? OR did he just do something dumb and we move on?

Here are my daughter's thoughts:

23 YO (USAF): ...my point is, you’re grown and in front of millions throwing around a symbol of hate, maybe check yourself and if that wasn’t your intention, don’t do it…TWICE. Our country already looks foolish with Cheeto man.

26 YO (teacher): To me it just looks like an awkward autistic man. As he’s doing it, he also is saying something like “my heart goes out to you” so like he’s trying to throw his heart out to the audience but is doing it in a really awkward rigid way.

Caveat: Both can't stand Trump. They voted for Biden in 2020, but neither voted for Harris.

When I said I agree with this, I meant the whole thing. I don’t think he’s a nazi. I also wouldn’t be surprised to hear he is one so🤷‍♂️
