Isaiah Johnson-Arigu commits to Iowa

Until I see proof on the floor by players coached up by McCaffery, I expect more of the same from him as a coach. IMO it is just time to part ways with McCaffery. If you are not improving daily, you are losing ground daily.
The Murray twins did not improve? Garza? Dix?

Improvement in team defense has been elusive, but individual players have definitely improved.

just realized- aren't we already at 13 scholarships? So this semester he must be getting NIL to cover tuition, etc - or have his own $20k for tuition/board for 1 semester.

Not at all just very skeptical McCaffery/Iowa is going to change. Tell me what is outlandish with what I stated.
Your comment wasn't necessarily outlandish and you're entitled to your opinion. It's just not really relevant to the topic of this post.

McCaffery has changed his recruiting philosophy and made the roster significantly more athletic going forward with the likes of Thelwell, Traore, Tadjo, Diakite, Johnson-Arigu, et al. For sure he still has things to work on, but acting like he’s incapable of change is just being bitchy for the sake of being bitchy.

That's great he's updating the roster, but what about actually coaching defense, boxing out and rebounding?
This part.

Without those things, the results will be the same. Iowa will outscore opponents some nights and get run out of the gym other nights.

Defense should never be deficient. It’s the one thing that should carry over from one game to the next. You can’t expect to simply outscore everyone and have that be a recipe for sustained success. Iowa does live and die by the 3. In other words, the difference between Fran looking like a genius or an idiot is the night Payton Sandfort is having,

I wouldn't necessarily say with all certainty that Fran will be back just because of this.
Maybe it's part of his parting gift to Iowa.
We still need to go in a different direction. That being said this doesn't seem the type of player Fran targets, so its odd to see this kind of athleticism come here

Just wait until Jack announces he decommits from Butler..... drumroll..... and he commits to play for daddy!!!

Some current roster guys have physical limitations that preclude them from being outstanding individual defenders.
We need long quick strong athletes to improve no matter how they are coached.
Step towards that.
Was watching spurs vs Bulls the other nite and the impact of wemby on defense is amazing.
As they said his combination of length/quickness and timing make him different than any giants of the past.

Really like his tapes. Can drive and use either hand. Very nice intermediate game, and can create for himself. Maybe needs work on his long distance shooting, but didn't see much. AND he has good athleticism and plays defense! Looks like a 3/4, not unlike Traore, but maybe with more ability to create his shot.

He & Traore on the press will be fun to watch!

It’s comical to me how posters here made up the rumor that Fran wants to leave after this year and then treat it likes it’s a fact.
That may be the way it started, but I still think it's a strong possibility that Margaret wants to reunite with her children in Indiana and that McCaffery hangs it up after this season. At least he wouldn't be leaving us high and dry like Coach Davis did when he was dismissed and refused to recruit for the next season.

This is all conjecture with no facts to back it up.

I hope Fran keeps Traore happy so he isn't transferring the other way. No rumor, but we have a lot of guys who are 4s, and Traore still isn't playing major minutes.
Players are going to come and go, can’t make everyone happy , but most Hawkeye players seem to like playing with each other and for our coaches. The reasons for this are of course all conjecture.

No scholarship limits. There is a roster limit of 15.
Anyone else get the impression that Fran is building a roster with 13 forwards, 1 guard, and 1 center?

I exaggerate and am happy that he is going after athletic players but would like some more guards get added. I know that the portal changes things a lot...

Here's 2 videos.

He has some hops.

Dothan (class of 2026), a 4 star prospect, was doing the head tap in the 2nd video. Iowa is trying to land him, too.

Isaiah and Dothan attend(ed) the same high school.

Blame Mary Sue Coleman for the lack of recruiting in Davis' last year. Bowlsby wanted to fire Davis outright, but she let him stay on as a lame duck for the last year. How can you recruit when the recruits would know that you won't be there to coach them? If he had been let go one year sooner we may not have had Alford as a coach.

Davis and his staff tried to recruit, but gave up because prospective players didn't want to commit without knowing who the next coach would be.

Fran loves the 6ft6in = 6ft9in guys that are interchangeable and can "guard" multiple positions. This transfer looks like a better version of Traore. Bigger, better ball handler and shooter. Not sure if he can guard anyone, but not like it matters to Fran.

It’s a good thing they kept Tom on for that season. He put together a good team that made the Sweet 16 and then played the ultimate National Championship team tough in the round of 16.

If TD had made the Tournament more in the last years before he was dismissed....he wouldn't have been dismissed.

Fran has Iowa consistently in the top half of the BT standings which imo is considered a triumph when considering Iowas location and lack of funds for top recruits. I’ll take Fran ball over Alford and Lickliter ball a million times over.
