Isaiah Johnson-Arigu commits to Iowa

Blame Mary Sue Coleman for the lack of recruiting in Davis' last year. Bowlsby wanted to fire Davis outright, but she let him stay on as a lame duck for the last year. How can you recruit when the recruits would know that you won't be there to coach them? If he had been let go one year sooner we may not have had Alford as a coach.
No, blame Bowlsby for agreeing to that asinine arrangement. He never should have fired Davis under those parameters.

The Murray twins did not improve? Garza? Dix?

Improvement in team defense has been elusive, but individual players have definitely improved.
I don't think the original post implied that player's have never improved with Fran. The paraphrased statement "if you aren't improving during the season then you are falling behind" is true.

Garza and Murrays had ex college players as father's as role models that were also active participants in their son's development.
Coaching is more about providing a framework/system/environment for players to develop. Self motivation and talent and other mentor's influence plays a big role too. Winning at college level depends on bringing in the talent in 1st place, development is secondary in my opinion.

Fran provided a system that allowed Garza/Murrays/Dix to excel on offense. Fran hasn't really encouraged his players to do much defensively. If Fran was responsible for Garza and Keegan offensive greatness, then why did he fail to coach up Connor on scoring or fail to teach PMAC that rebounding/defense/not shying away from contact were required at college level for a 6'9 player.

Fran's fate is not going to be influenced much by opinions expressed on this board. HIs contract is through the 27-28 season. The fact that it hasn't already been extended indicates both parties have not agreed his future at Iowa beyond 27-28 is in both parties best interest.

Maybe Josh going pro next year?
I'm sure he will test the waters like Payton did. I think he will be a higher draft prospect, but not sure he'd be guaranteed a first round pick. Iowa will offer him the money to stay, or KU/Creighton may offer him a bigger bag. But I think he finishes his college career, hopefully at Iowa.

Yes, we need a solid point guard and, also, our front court needs a complete enema. Going the right direction, however. Our b-ball team needs to look more like a group on “Soul Train” than an a cappella group at a suburban coffee shop open mic night.

Players are going to come and go, can’t make everyone happy , but most Hawkeye players seem to like playing with each other and for our coaches. The reasons for this are of course all conjecture.
I think Traore will show a lot more than what we have seen, if he can stay healthy and work his way into the regular rotation. Right now, he would have to take minutes from the Sandfort bros, who Fran loves, and Koch is also going to earn minutes if he gets healthy. We need more defense on the interior, which I think Traore can help provide, if he gets to play with the other top players more.

Hope he picks it up, but recently his BBall decisions are pretty iffy IMO. Hopefully more time will cure, but I get the sense that he is not happy at Iowa (nothing to validate one way or the other).

For those worried about his lack of production on a bad team, I’d bring up Terran Petteway, who as a freshman only averaged 3ppg for a Texas Tech team that went 1-17 in the Big 12. He then transferred to Nebraska and averaged over 18ppg in his career with the Cornhuskers.

Sometimes talented players need a change of scenery to thrive.

He looked confident against isu but since then he looks pretty uncomfortable on the floor. Thinking about not making mistakes vs playing instinctual.

It's too bad because overall I think he's probably one of the better players on the team.

Anyone else get the impression that Fran is building a roster with 13 forwards, 1 guard, and 1 center?

I exaggerate and am happy that he is going after athletic players but would like some more guards get added. I know that the portal changes things a lot...
Fran's golf bag probably has 13 hybrids and a putter.
