Yes, but I don't think any of it came from anything close to a credible source. Everybody involved denied it, and they quickly hired a guy who isn't a national big name candidate, so I think that rumor probably wasn't true. Was there not some talk the ISU Prez put the kabosh on Otz's hiring as the head man preferring to go with a "National big name candidate"?
I agree with a lot of what you say. But I think Fred was a great coach on the offensive end of the court. Hew as innovative and knew how to create mismatches and played with a somewhat unconventional lineup. His teams were very efficient on offense and scoring out of timeouts was a strength, which is a sign of a good coach.I think it’s a good hire and supposedly and up and comer……..but werent Gene Chizik and Steve Alford were ‘up and comers’ as well?……..At the end of the day it’s all about recruiting an player development.
He has a good nucleus in place in 2015. How will his style of ball translate to the current roster? Personally I think prognosticators are over-hyping the Cyclones in 2015/16. Isn’t this the same team who just lost to UAB getting beat on the boards badly in their last game? They lost their best rebounder in Hogue and the 6-9 JUCO guy out of Iowa Western recently bailed and moved on to St Johns. I think they might have another transfer big guy opportunity, but without another large body I don’t seen them significantly better this upcoming year than last. Perhaps I will be wrong but the roster is guard heavy.
Long term, is Prohm going to take the Hoiberg route, feasting on transfers, 5th year guys and JUCO’s, or is he going to go the High School route and develop players, or a mix of both?
I think Hoiberg did a great job of meshing the players he had (minus the Dejean Jones flame out), but keep in mind, many of these players had been developed before stepping on campus. Fred seemed to get too much credit of being a ‘great coach’ in my opinion when 3 out of 4 guys walking on campus had significant experience elsewhere.
Niang is certainly no choir boy. Fred allowed him to flip the bird to the Iowa fans in Carver last year. Maybe Prohm has more class. I certainly hope so.Prohm is very religious. Already instituted a no cursing rule and no music with curse words because it is 1940's high school basketball apparently. It will be interesting to see how that plays at a state school and he prays with the team before every practice and game. I can see how it works at BYU, Baylor etc but I can see it turning recruits off unless they are very religious as well. From Niang's comments he didn't seem to into it.

Flip the bird? Uh, no. Georges blew a kiss to the students who had been riding him all game. It was done in jest, and I think most of the students on the receiving end understood that fact.Niang is certainly no choir boy. You certainly must not have seen the game. Fred did not allow Niang to do anything and that is not what Niang did anyway. He blew a kiss to the crowd and smiled at the crowd in good jest. He said he was thanking them for the support they gave him. When Fred was asked what he thought of it, he said he wished he didn't do it but he kind of smiled as he knows Georges would not disrespect anyone.
God help us all. He's back with yet another screen name.Because isu fans say so.
I sit in the second row. I saw Niang give the middle finger to the crowd as he left. (After he blew the kiss). There is no link but I saw it myself.Still waiting on that link. Or were you lying?

If hooper said he saw it, it happened. I realize it is hard to believe anything bad like that could happen with the angels on that Iowa State team.
Hooper has issues with accuracy and often just flat out makes stuff up.
Or are you also agreeing with him when he states Kentucky did not make the Final Four last season?

Anyone can have issues with accuracy, it is called being in error, faulty memory, brain fart. That is far different from flat out making stuff up, which I don't agree that Hooper does. If he says he saw it, I believe him.
While were talking about credibility, (Oh boy....why do I open these cans of worms? ) Often I read your posts and am reminded of a famous gentleman who once said, "It depends on what the meaning of is, is."
Yup, Slick Legend12, Director of Snake Oil Sales.
You've convinced me. Ol' Hoop saw it and the other 15,000+ didn't. It's not like the media/fans pay any attention to Niang so I can completely see it being missed. It's settled. That scenario is way more plausible than this idiot anonymously lying on a message board.
What is so hard to believe? Are you and other isu fans claiming that such activity never occurred under the watchful eye of Fred Hoiberg? I suggest you go back and review the actions of Scotty C and Melvin Ejim among others.
You siding with Hooper does him no favors.

It happened as he excited the court. The game had just ended. Camera was likely focusing on one or both coaches. Everyone in my area was talking about it, they all saw it. Words were exchanged as well and security was looking ready to step in if needed.I'll say this - I have a very hard time believing Niang flipped the bird to the crowd AFTER the blown kiss. Especially since the first activity is captured on video, I'd think plenty of people and the camera that took the video were still watching him afterwards.
ISU's team had some thugs, but they were better than Iowa (except in getting past the first round of the tourney).
You are right. I think hawk fans (myself included) do admire the kid and how he plays just as we might think his behavior is reprehensible.I recall most Hawk fans who after seeing their team get pounded into submission wish they had players like Niang with a little fire.
get over yourselves people. Who cares if he flipped someone off?
