ISU has released Jarod Verkleeren from his letter of intent.

Unless you're PFP top 10 or legacy recruit/in state gem we shouldn't offer anything other than books. Verk gets offered books and I'm good with him coming unless it means someone else gets butt-hurt and decides not to come.

I get what you're going for but I don't think that exact strategy works.

Ok so they are getting

Gt
RBY
Beard
Hoffman
Neville
Jared
Whittlake

Missing anyone?

Must be about that time when the upperclassman cash in their scholarships.

Verkleeren - doubtful IMO
Beard, Hoffman - right now have neither, and can't take both IMO (Beard would be amazing though)
RBY - who knows? (hope he sticks)
Nevills - like our chances

Doesn't he have diabetes also? Being serious. That can not be ideal. Think Wagner or rathburn have it as well.

Being diabetic will not get in the way of their wrestling. There are professional athletes who are diabetic.

I have heard this often associated with this kid and it confuses me that he could be so decorated while being so flawed.

Also, that sounds a lot like what people were saying about Seth Gross.
I'd like to just go on record saying that I do not want Verkleeren -- he's slow, has trouble creating offense ... he'd fit in perfectly.
I was saying the same thing about Gross, he sure proved me wrong!

Who is this mike tognetti guy?

Some convict in the Federal Penal system who somehow manages to get time in on the Warden's computer. Not sure how.

I think what you're alluding to is that everyone needs "fall back" recruits and it's better to have your hand in multiple pots. I guess I'm saying the pots my hands are in are the big hot ones and I'll show interest to second tier recruits and deflect money talk until last possible moment with those recruits. If that philosophy can't work at Iowa then there may be an issue at the top. We're Iowa Wrestling. We're a "blue blood" program like Kentucky, Kansas, UNC, UCLA in BBall (you see the results of their recruiting in your brackets). We should recruit the elite of the elite and offer the most to those caliber of recruits.

Good timing to follow up on this. LOL. Your Bball comparisons are funny

It's more of nutrition and monitoring ones levels. ie what's coming in and what's going out. Wrestling demands and weight cutting places extreme pressure on their levels. Much more so then most professional athletes

One reason why Rathbun wont wrestle 126.

That is correct. Very difficult to have type I Diabetes(insulin dependent) and compete in wrestling. It certainly can be done, but extreme weight cutting is definely out. Even moderate weight cutting would be difficult to do while maintains good blood glucose levels.

The FUN is the key. The wrestling is secondary..................

"Fun" was a consistent theme during the championships. I understand why it gets annoying to opposing fans because it was repeated so much. When I hear "fun", I translate that to meaning "don't stress, wrestle loose, be you, etc.". Anyway, back to the subject at hand, I would be shocked if Verkleeren ended up at Penn State.

I am pretty sure that the PSU kids are just trolling at this point. If so it is pretty FUNny if not it is kinda gross.
