It’s Official.. Empty Arenas

Will the “home” teams find it a bit more difficult without their fans? The officials got to love it, no bashing from the fans.

honestly, I could see this working to the Hawks benefit. When the refs start altering calls based on the "crowd feedback" (which we know does happen on occasion), it rarely if ever works to Iowa's advantage. This is probably the closest thing we'll ever see to an unbiased reffing crew.

hmmm, maybe this will be good for us :D

still not convinced they'll be playing empty stadiums though

It's going to be surreal watching a game and no "sounds" of the game other than that of the basketball bouncing and hitting the rim and that of the coaches with so much on the line.

I am going to watch the MSU game on mute now. No way I could tolerate hearing Izzo whine for 40 minutes.

Also, how awkward will it be for commentators. They know the players will hear their every word live.

If the games do go on I think this does help Iowa. I think the rough stuff will be called more.

I’m watching the MAC women’s tournament right now. It’s actually better than I thought. You don’t realize how much of the crowd noise is actually the cheerleaders. Also the families are so fricking loud it just feels like a poorly attended regular game.

Honestly, they could do without the announcers too. I would like to just watch the players play!!

Who's broadcasting it?

The sim is off the walls. I haven't been this shocked since 9/11. This truly makes 0 sense. How in the flying **** can you do this when giant corporations with warehouses of 10k+ staff members are still working every.single.day.

Unless you literally shut down life as we know it, this is such an absurd overreaction. Public transportation in major cities see more than 20k+ people a day, and I rode the L into work this morning.

WTF is going on

This is going to be weird. For the players it might be kind of like some of their poorly attended AAU games.

Like this comment if you know someone personally that has actually got Caronavirus
I would be curious to hear from @Suterman, @suburbanhawk, and any others about the experiences of the individuals that they know who contracted it ... if you guys would be willing to share. I heard about an individual who had the coronavirus, secondhand, who said it was comparable to the common cold (of course, that may have been specific to that individual’s demographic and immune system)

Influenza has claimed 18,000 lives this year. Corona has claimed about 100. The elderly, particularly with pre existing conditions should be cautious. However, that is true for every year. We are moving out of Flu Season so I would make sure everyone over reacts. Medical Expert after Medical Expert has called out the Media for creating this hysteria. Wash your hands, keep your immune system boosted and move on.

The 2 people I know were on an Egyptian cruise. They are in their 60's and are currently convalescing & recovering at home. I do not know the severity of their cases. If I hear anything to add to this, I will certainly do so.

Much appreciated, thank you

Most of us weren't going anyway. Feel bad for those who were. This may be an over reaction, but lets see what happens.
