It’s Official.. Empty Arenas

Assuming the games are going to be played, the announcers may just do their thing from a remote location so the players don't hear a thing.
Sort of sad for the players. The crowd is half of the experience. Playing to empty arenas will be a strange experience.
If there are cheerleaders and parents that’d be enough noise. Cheerleaders never shut up

Why are classes and schools not being cancelled/closed?
The 3 state schools already announced as have many other colleges and universities. I assume in the coming days elementary, middle and high schools will follow suit.

Why would you need cheerleaders if there's no one to cheer?

I hadn’t heard that, but I do see an article in the register that mentions it posted an hour ago.

are the athletes not surrounded by other kids at the university can they not spread it them selves so how can we have any games.
Yes its seems to be an icky bug but healthy people getting are not dying ones who have other health issues seem to be having the issues and probably should not go to the games. it sucks but is what it is

Because if you come in contact with 10 people and you have the virus, you can only infect 10 people and you can contain them. If there are 15,000 people and 1,000 are infected, it's impossible to contain.

Big 12 is allowing 125 family plus cheerleaders per team. With 4 teams per session that is over 500 in the house...they can make some noise.

This isn’t an overreaction. Imagine the potential lawsuit if someone contracts the virus and dies because they went to an NCAA sponsored event. Higher obesity rates in the US could contribute to a higher death rate than China/Italy. When did sports become more important than public health?

How would one prove they contracted a disease at an NCAA sponsored event?

I agree that we should be listening to those who know more than us and health is obviously more important than sports, etc...

First of all, there's no way to prove where a person contracted it and no one is liable for the spread of a virus in the first place unless you personally infected someone.

Second going to the game would be your choice.

Lastly if you think more people are going to die here with the best medical care in the history of the world than in comunist shit hole China, you're an fool. People are selling bats to eat on the streets there because that's all they have.

By most metrics, the US does not have “the best medical care in the history of the world”

So, it is OK with you if young healthy people don't follow instructions to contain the virus, because they probably won't die or even get really sick? So, we can have a potentially huge population of infected younger healthier carriers of the virus, and why should they care what they do to others not so lucky? You have grandparents or even parents, who you care about? Think just a little.

It is an overreaction and laughable.

Although, a week ago cancellation of the NCAA Tournament seemed like an overreaction and laughable.

None of us are laughing as this now seems a certainty.

650,000 Americans Die of Heart Disease every year, yet we still can buy all the chips with artery clogging cheese sauce we want at the CHA concession stands. 30 Americans have died from CV and we shut the fans out of the biggest tournaments of the year.

Don't confuse people with facts.
Like if you are under 70 you are VERY unlikely to die from this. And the percentages in the US are likely to be much better that China, where most of these numbers are from.

Over 60,000 people have already had the virus and recovered.

More people in China have now recovered than are infected.

It's not significantly different than a flu.

Old people in bad health die when they get the flu too.

Italy has had significantly hirer flu deaths rates too compared to most developed countries. Because their population is older and less healthy to begin with.
