It's recruiting, folks!

By trying to make your point you made mine. Iowa, UNC and Ok St aren't top programs. I will give you Florida. My definition of a top level program is one that plays for or wins National Championships regularly.

Do you consider Georgia a top level program? I certainly do, and they don't regularly play for national championships.

Iowa will never be a consistent top 20 recruiting class school. But come on, this is the same crap that was said one year ago, then these worthless recruits went 12-0

20 and 30's is acceptable...50's and 60's is an embarrassment.

Disagree. Recruiting is important. But Iowa was only a 6 point underdog in the Rose Bowl. We got embarrassed because of dropped balls, false starts, giving up punt returns and INT for TD, giving up over 7 sacks, etc., etc. Poor execution IMO. (also running into the kicker and missed PAT - which did not affect the outcome.)

Is anyone saying Iowa is a top level program? Cowherd's point was Iowa was over rated. They weren't. If going 12-0 was so easy why didn't more teams do it. Iowa had the 59th toughest schedule. So why didn't the other 50 plus teams that had easier schedules go unbeaten.

They got beat by Stanford pretty soundly. Look you guys waited a long time to bitch about a loss. I give you credit for your patience.

For me it's never about losing. It's about how this guy goes about doing it! Going 12-0 is huge regardless of who you play. I will give them kudos for that. If we had Alabama talent we could line up and play every game the way we want too. As you know, we don't have their talent and I don't think we would be having this conversation if we were in the east. Here is an example that perplexes me, Phil Parker said we are going "to do what we do" when questioned about preparing for Stanford. Did NOTHING to try and slow McCaffrey down. We don't have a LB that can cover that kid, we might not have a DB....you have to try! If you care about winning....

It's the recruiting or maybe, just maybe...we started three guys on our OL out of position due to injuries...Croston, Welsh, and Daniels (a freshman). That was huge. We then lose Neiman...and Kittle...and Lomax was playing hurt too. The other factor is that we appeared to have a deer in the headlights view...maybe the game was too big for us. I'm not discounting the fact that recruiting is important. It is...but other factors contributed to that Rose Bowl.

Wasn't Stanford ranked behind us? And I'm not sure "soundly" is a strong adjective. At no point were we ever remotely in the game from the first play on. Herbsteit even said we looked like a pop warner football team. I think it's safe to say we may have been riding a bit of an overrated bubble.

I don't agree with this. I'm not saying we weren't a little over ranked, but with the way Iowa played on Friday I don't think they would have beaten anybody on their schedule this year outside of North Texas.
