Fran had one key objective after last season and that was to get an insurance policy should Jbo not be able to play at all or have to pull the plug or just to have some freaking depth at the guard spot like every other team has. This has nothing to do with Nunge, Pemsl or P-Mac so this guy would not be the 9th or 11th guy as some have eluded to.

You go to grad transfers and say "Hey we need a guy who wants to play fast and shoot 3's. We lost Moss and Baer who shot 3's and will likely be without our starting PG who got a lot of shots in our offense. We have a stud post to be an anchor in the paint and an exciting freshman PG. You can get a lot of minutes in my system coming off the bench."

Do you think that is an unattractive pitch to grad transfers? You cannot gloss over how poor of a job Fran did with Evelyn. The guy is a downgrade from Dailey and Ellingson IMO as he literally brings nothing offensively. You don't "replace" a guy like Jbo I get it, but you also don't offer a guy with 0 offense when your offense is predicated on shooting 3's. I do not accept Evelyn was the best / only option in the GT space.

That’s fine. I can free Fran doesn’t have the horses to “win championships” - not a lot of teams do. But still, the people that talk so poorly of Fran still never answer the question - who can Iowa realistically get that is a significant step up?

I've said over and over that I don't like him personally - although that sounds odd because I don't know him and have never met him... what I mean is I don't like his personality and his demeanor. His outbursts and temper have embarrassed the University of Iowa several times. Some people are more bothered than others by this, so I admit to being a bit more bothered by it (especially when he's not exactly competing for any titles).

As for who we can get, I don't know... I'm being honest here and simply admitting, I don't know. And yeah, I was sick of Davis back in the late 90s. I think most fans got sick of the plateau, as well as a somewhat predictable season before it even started. But looking back, sure, I'd probably be happy to have a coach that represents my University well and consistently gets the team to the tourney.

Never got the 'embarrassed the university' line. Sez who? You may feel embarrassed, but who cares? If you can't handle it, move on to volleyball. Did Lute, Ralph Miller outbursts 'embarrass' you?

People can choose to focus on 2 months here or there, but after 10 years, I am not satisfied with the quality of Fran's teams. Blame injuries if you wish, but also understand that the 3 players that departed did so early enough for Fran to make attempts to fill the roster accordingly - and you can add Bohannon's hip to that same point.

I don't know what Hawkeye basketball would lose if Fran were to be sent packing? His sons? One can't even play and the other is very average.

I know this is going to come as a shock, but not everyone is built to be a star, sometimes you need glue guys too. Bakari is better than both players you list and he wanted to be here. He has shown the ability to shoot, pass, defend the other teams pg and drive the ball to the hoop. He's been pretty bad the last couple of games, I'll admit, but I'd take him over the other 2 all day. And Ellingson showed he was a decent player for Drake last year, just didn't succeed in our system.

Basketball at Iowa has not been anything that anybody needs to follow and unfortunately it has been that way for a really long time. Agreed, this team is fun to watch, and plays with a lot of heart. Fran has done a great job with this team and the future for Iowa basketball looks bright. Go Hawks!

I think more people would respect your opinion. If you just came out and said that you dislike Fran as a person and a coach. Because, results wise, we are back to what Tom Davis did after George’s recruits left the building.

The one thing I'll throw in there is that I think Iowa was on the rise again before Street died. I think a big part of Dr. Tom died with Chris.
