That’s because it’s an internet rumor.
It is a very sad deal for all involved. You don’t find anything about it because he is white and wealthy. Another accident that happened in Iowa City on the east side within the last week has the two minority 17yr old names involved is plastered all over the news. A 21 yr yr old was unfortunately killed by the teens. I think the person is in a coma in this accident.

You have no evidence to back up your statement. Infact there is very little evidence than an accident involving the kid even happened, yet you go off on a totally unsupported political rant.
If I'm wrong and nothing was said because of who he is and which race he belongs to, prove it, and I will admit it publicly. Otherwise, an apology to this board is in order.
You forgot to add that FOX is actively involved in the cover up.
Anyone who makes a comment like this is hardly ever going to give any form of an apology. More likely to double and triple down on stupid. This isn't 1950 with Mickey Mantle riding on the same train as the sportswriters. JM and his family would be prime meat for today's media.

For some news outlets, whether or not an accident produces a fatality, and whether or not any citations are issued affects how a story is reported.The other incident involving the two teens was also a traffic accident..
That said, I can understand why some folks might perceive a lack of consistency between similar situations.
If Jack really had been involved in an accident where a pedestrian was injuried wouldn't it be public record that could be validated?
It's hard to believe that Peter Jok driving around without a flag on this moped and getting a citation is more of a news story then someone getting killed.
Maybe. If Jack received a traffic citation, you would be able to look it up on Iowa Courts Online. However, if he was involved in an accident that resulted in felony charges, you would not see that on Iowa Courts Online because he is a minor and juvenile court records do not appear on Iowa Courts Online. As a side note, as of today nothing appears on Iowa Courts Online.
The consensus out there seems to be that Jack hit a pedestrian while driving and the pedestrian is in the hospital with severe head injuries. Whether Jack was at fault or not seems to be unknown.
Dumb, unsupported, and weak.
I’d like to see the McCafferys come out and denounce the stories all together. Jack shouldn’t be saddled with a lie. If it were my kid and the story was unsubstantiated, I think that I would have a statement prepared and leave it at that - asked and answered.
I am finding out this is a real incident and Jack was involved and NOT his fault. This will come out and just a horrible unfortunate accident.
Once it is clear what happened, unless there are possible criminal charges (not suggesting anything), Fran should probably issue a statement.
Either Fran, or the University on his behalf. A lot of times employers will issue a statement saying something like "please allow the families involved in this unfortunate accident to work through their grief... when the time is appropriate, they will address."
Just for one second think about how the media reacts these days. IF they were able, do you honestly believe a high profile family would be spared from media coverage?
Yeah, the idea that todays media would spare a person for being white is clearly not ture.
Theres so many examples of the opposite happening its comical.
From what I read they both ran a stop sign and hit the car of a 22 year old woman who died from her injuries. Sad news for sure.

Iowa City Police denied an open records request specifically asking for the names of those involved, electing to keep any other details secret as part of an ongoing police investigation.
I feel badly for all involed but the ICP will have questions to answer on why the two incidents were handled so differently. In the case of Jack it now appears that the police are being manipulate to withhold information most likely because money, profile, and power. While the other incident, also on a public street with minors is fully released and this one is muzzled. I have kids and wonder if it were mine involved if their names would have been provided? Sadly, I think I know that answer.
This is how a sad story becomes something bigger and worse, all because of privilege and power. If it is found that the University has influenced the suppression of information does that become national news?

2) If it happened as described with Jack driving around a car stopping to yield to a pedestrian then Jack is at fault, at least from Civil lawsuit point of view and it will be expensive for Fran, but he's got a lot of money.
Anyone find this very eerie? Fran being a huge supportor of the Street family, 30th anniversary with the documentary coming out, and now this with his own son? Something is very cursed, IMO.

I live near where this accident occurred. That stretch of Melrose is two lanes. Apparently (not confirmed), the driver in the right lane stopped for a jogger waiting to cross. The driver in the left lane didn't stop, and struck the jogger.
Let me preface this by saying there is a posted pedestrian crossing there, so in the eyes of the law, the left lane driver would be at fault. That being said, I have always thought that this crossing is hazardous, and my heart sinks for everyone involved in this situation
I drive that route pretty much everyday, and I never see people yielding to pedestrians there. It'd be hazardous to do so. The speed limit is 35, and most are going faster. This is near the edge of town.
What makes it especially hazardous, in my opinion, is that the entrance to the last large subdivision on the west edge of town is right at the same spot as that crossing. If I was in the left lane and saw someone in the right lane slowing down, I'd likely think they were turning into that subdivision. Add to that the fact that the pedestrian crossing isn't particularly visible. It's at the crest of a hill and somewhat shaded.
I just wish that stretch of road was designed better, and this awful situation could've been prevented altogether.
I'm guessing the jogger has ran that route a number of times. It's too bad that between the driver and jogger, they weren't better prepared.
It is interesting that there was an accident with no acknowledgment issued, so far. 7-10 days is about the max for a report, so something might break soon.

That will depend on which politician it can be used to undermine.
The pedestrian is a National Guard soldier that was just weeks away from retirement. He is showing good signs of recovery but still in the UofI in critical care.
Sure, if and when it is actually entered into the public record. Apparently that has not yet happened though, which seems more than just a little fishy...
Not sure I fully understand the situation, but if you just blow through a posted pedestrian crossing, that could be cited. It could be that the car to the right blocked the view of the pedestrian, who also probably should have been more careful. Sounds like a dangerous place to jog, if cars are going 35+ through the area. Pray the injured jogger continues to improve and fully recovers.
I am sure that everyone involved wishes they could go back in time, and do something different. Tough situation.
