Boy, this thread has completely derailed. I would encourage Jan to make a tough decision and ask Gyamfi to move on.

Iowa's got Gyamfi, Ediger and Johnson, and now Levin. 4 out of 14 that see no minutes at all. That's how you go 10 deep, I guess.
With the way the current struggles are playing out...if they aren't getting an opportunity now...they are not ever getting one.

Time to look for playing time elsewhere.

She may be content being on the team playing time or not.
It's the coaches job to get contributions from everyone.

Keep someone merely because they are not making waves because they don't play isn't helpful to team success.

Why would a coach keep someone like that?

Maybe she contributes more than those of us on the sideline see. And, it's not about playing time for all players. Kia Stokes comes to mind.

Whatever JJ is doing now isn't working.

Not making any meaningful changes doesn't fix anything.

Currently, all the starters are inconsistent as hell. We see 4/5 games with few contributions, then players like Affolter, Feuerbach, McCabe, AOG, and Steulke have one decent game(not at the same time) and then it's back to crap.

The upcoming schedule is brutal, there's likely three wins the rest of the season. Get the freshmen meaningful court time, because nothing indicates the upperclassmen can turn it around.
Jada can stay the bench cheerleader.

Your last sentence was pertinent to my post.

We’ve gotten well beyond the point where teams can afford to keep kids who are “great teammates” but nothing else. She’s obviously not pushing anyone in practice enough to be a consideration for more playing time. Go do your social media stuff and good luck with that. Leave the basketball to those who can make a difference—even if all that means is pushing others to get better.

I'm not trying to be rude, but saying her being Black never entered your mind is just not accurate. Google "I don't see color" to learn more about the mounds of research that have been done in this area. We all see color and we all form opinions based on it in one way or another, whether we want to admit it or not.

While it may not have been your intent, you perpetuated a stereotype that Black players have superior talent and if they aren't successful on the court, it must be because of a lack of effort. How to be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi is a great book on how our society perpetuates stereotypes if you'd like to learn more.

LOL at "Not sure if you're black nor do I care..." Obviously you care, or you wouldn't have mentioned it. While you're ask yourself why you questioned the work effort of a Black player without any evidence for doing so, ask yourself why it matters if I'm Black or not.

The point isn't about whether being overrated is being better than not having desire. Being antiracist isn't about automatically holding BIPOC people in high regard. It's about working to be honest about people in a way that seeks to strip away the implicit biases we all hold.

Gyamfi just isn't that good. In her time at Iowa, when has she made a play on the court that made you think, "Wow, she's really talented" or "Gosh, she sure is athletic." There are players all the time whose abilities just don't translate at the next level. Look at all the busts there are in the NBA draft, despite millions and millions being put into scouting. Gyamfi is a player who just doesn't have the athletic ability or talent to earn a lot of minutes at the Big Ten level. It's just that simple.
Outlandishly ridiculous for you to suggest, definitively, that he had race in his mind when making the comment. Just so ignorant to spill this thinking over to everyone. Many, if not most, of us see basketball players....period. Plenty of people have referred to white players as being lazy or lacking skills. Stop making the entire world about race. "We all see color and we all form opinions based on it in one way or another, whether we want to admit it or not" does not apply to all of us. Research is nice...but it's not the end all be all. I see people....so take your research and apply it elsewhere.

Then make her a team manager and not someone eating a scholly.

Tell Jan that. I assume Iowa recruited her and all current players with the idea they would contribute on the court during actual games. You know as well as I do, that that doesn't always happen. Commitment goes both ways, or at least it should.

A REALLY bad analogy. Kia Stokes played at UConn and even without starting she managed to get drafted and is playing in the W. based solely on the depth at UConn. I'm sure when she went there she thought she'd be starting at some point, but it sure didn't keep her from reaching her goals.

Its an issue. At least with Mulvey on the mens team he gives them an active 7fter to practice against.

Bad analogy? Your reply makes no sense. My point was players are recruited and go where they want to play and I assume Jada did that and Kia did that and obviously they were/are both content with the career they had or have. You don't think Kia would have made it to the W if she would have attended Iowa or Indiana or any number of lesser Universities and actually put up way bigger numbers by playing 35 minutes per game?

Your statement said, "its not about playing time for all players", "Kia Stokes comes to mind". First off Kia certainly thought she was going to play more at UConn then she did, so what does, "its not all about playing time" have to do with her. You think when she committed to UConn she thought she'd never start? The reason Kia is content with her choice is precisely because even being a none starter at UConn she still got drafted into the WNBA. As to what she would have done elsewhere, who knows. She doesn't do much for the Aces. I'm not sure she's a better player then Hannah, and she has serious holes in her game also, and will struggle in the league as a 6'2" post player...
