March 13: IOWA ends up #34 in the NET Rankings with 8 Quad 1 Wins, 5 Quad 2 Wins. 2 Quad 3 LOSSES

Until CJ gets to where he can play again, and until we can get more point production from Cordell and Bakari, then maybe we can get our offense flowing again like it was when we had success. I know Bakari is able to, since he had 15 pts vs Cincy. He has scored 3 points since that game. Guys need to step up coming off the bench. I hate to beat this dead horse, but for gosh sake, if the 3's aren't falling, then make some adjustments. When Garza gets double and triple teamed in the post, then kick it out fast to the guards. But when our jumpers aren't falling it doesn't help.
not sure the last time Iowa shot that poorly; that can't happen when you have your All American getting triple teamed down low

some of those missed shots were waaaaaaay off

Yeah, I agree and the zebras didn't do us any favors too.
honestly, i was not surprised losing this game when you consider we were in PA on Saturday and then we have to travel to Lincoln a couple days later.

and when looking at our starting 5 and the overall rotation, i was simply hoping it would be Debbie who was missing all night

So as long as PSU stays top 50 it doesn’t really matter if NET considers that a neutral site game?

Good news is we only have two more Q3 games so not many opportunities to have a major stinker left in the season.

And Neb and NW away games may not even be Q3 by year end.

in the end, come tourney selection time, it would be nice to only have 4 Quad 4 games on our resume; time will tell; there have been lots of movement in the rankings and where a win/loss falls in the 4 quadrants

I must say, the NCAA doesn't seem to want folks to know how the NET works and/or what information is important to the committee. They've gone from producing several reports per day that were downloadable excel files to only producing the Nitty Gritty report and Team Sheets as a PDF. The Nitty Gritty doesn't even have all of the figures shown on the team sheet (i.e. breaking Quad 1 and 2 into what I've dubbed Q1A, Q1B, Q2A, Q2B).

Such an odd way to handle things for an organization that so frequently prides itself on its transparency and fairness...

NET is one factor in the selection process.

But, correct me if I am wrong, but a team's non conference strength of schedule seems to really matter.

NET is the official NCAA metric for ranking teams as a base for the information provided to the committee. There are "team sheets" created which pull various information about the team as it relates to NET (ie SOS, NCSOS, Road Record, Record vs Quads).

The committee members may use additional information as well, but what is officially provided is derived from the NET primarily. There has been a good number of examples of teams getting moved up or down comparatively when they have played either a very challenging or a very easy non conference schedule (as the talking heads point out, this is the part of the schedule the team can control, so they should challenge themselves).

For someone who understands the Net Rankings better, how is Wisconsin above Iowa?

For someone who understands the Net Rankings better, how is Wisconsin above Iowa?
all i know is it comes down to who you played and where you played them & if you won or not; some computer on a daily basis is producing the rankings; NET is supposed to be more fair than RPI

That's as technical as I get ;)

I believe the NET values records for strength of schedule more than efficiency. Wisconsin has a much better strength of schedule as determined by NET, so their wins (road especially) have boosted them more than Iowa's.

Iowa's Texas Tech, Syracuse, and ISU wins are prime examples... all underperforming record-wise.

Well, tonight's game is semi-frustrating from a Quad perspective. If we lose, it will be a Q1 loss, but if we win, it will almost assuredly drop to a Q2 win when the NET updates tomorrow (Michigan currently #28 -- we're #29 interestingly enough).

Just win! That will take care of all the analytical models:)

I'll be watching and cheering.... For Rutgers.. At home.
We're playing Minnesota tomorrow at home, another sell out. The Trapezoid of Doom will be alive and well.

I am impressed with your #22 ranking (4th best in the B1G) and your trapezoid of doom arena.

We need your help. Can you help us out with a cool nickname for Carver Hawkeye Arena? ;)

We are currently not ranked. Had we beat Illinois we would be so were really hoping for a win against Minny tomorrow.

The Trapezoid of Doom actually came from one of the TV announcers. The actual name of the arena is the Louis Brown Athletic Center (former RU golfer who donated $$) and its nickname is The RAC.. Rutgers Athletic Center. RU fans are buying into the Trapezoid of Doom though. Tee shirts now available..
