I love how you are constantly moving the goalposts. Now it's not if it is illegal; it's how many people have been successfully prosecuted for it.
Soon your defense will be that all these Trump people are all pathological liars, so their lies can't be objectively judged as being intentional or simply a result of their pathology.

But, but, but, wait! No one met with any Russians!
He has shown criminal intent. Mueller asked him to turn over all emails and he purposely did not turn over ones relating to Russian contacts. Mueller had the copies before he asked him, to see if he would hide them and he did. Now, Mueller has subpoenaed all emails, so he will either have to turn them over and admit he tried to hide them (criminal intent you were looking for) or risk that Mueller doesn't have them, keep hiding them and face obstruction charges.
