OK, I am struggling with this one!!! WHAT????? I heard about the kid. Obviously he is real good. I know HS kids have won college opens before. Kolat comes to mind, and I know there are others. They also may have gone through much tougher tournaments then the Edinboro open? As I recall though, all where in their SR year.

BUT a HS Freshman!??!?! What in all hell am I missing here? Someone help me out with this. I am even thinking, OK, maybe he is old for the grade, he was held back or whatever. I am just not getting this, But please tell me he is a HUGE IOWA fan!!!

We would actually have to recruit him to have a chance (which TnT are loathe to do). PSU, UNC and OkieSt all currently ahead of us. Plenty of time to make up the ground though.

he is wrestling for Bishop McCort High School and is on the same team as Bo Basset. They train all over the place and Young Guns as well. I am sure M* has been in touch with BOTH of these guys and johnstown is very close to Ebensburg ....hometown of Max Murin so maybe the success Max has had will be a positive push for TNT to show these young men when recruiting. getting EITHER one of these guys would be a huge get but getting both would be an AMAZING day for the Hawkeyes

You aren't missing anything. It's as simple as he's really, really good at wrestling.
Really, really good!?!??! I am thinking, OK, if spencer Lee was heavier as a HS freshman. Could he have beaten college wrestlers as a freshman in HS? I mean I am trying to think of the very best of the best and come up with someone else who could have possible done this and I am at a total loss!

You think about HS freshman winning state titles and you have to shake your head and just say WOW!!! Usually when this happens it is down at the lowest weights. Now this kid is at the lowest college weight, and that is entirely different. He is facing young men who are wrestling in college which makes them pretty darn good.

Ah, enough, it is hurting my head trying to figure this one out! Like said above, lets get him and his teammate although I believe that other stud said he is going F*** state already?

Were you raised in a anechoic chamber?

PSU will be throwing the bank at these two, Iowa will need to pull all the stops to get either one. Carl is cringing at his 125 failures of late.

What weights will Jax and Bo be at in college???
Honestly not sure. I have heard Bo has interest in PSU but it's early. As for Jax i have not heard anything except that he's old for a freshmean.

Bo looks to project in the light weights (125/133). Not sure about Jax, he is pretty long. I would not be surprised if he ended up in the 149/157 range in college.

Jax is 11-2 against D1 competition at 125 this year. He has 3 pins 6 techs 1 major and beat Ungar 11-9. His losses were to Seymour Lehigh 9-7 and Ramos Purdue 17-2 tech with RT at the 7min mark

I watched the match (it says was from a month ago at the finals of Ironman) against Luke Lilledahl. Jax lost. I didn't see anything impressive in that match.

I would weigh his results in college opens over a high school match. There are numerous reasons why he may have been off that day. Or maybe the other kid is even better.

Yes, and the kid that beat him may have been, or most likely was an upper class kid. Lets get whomever that was on the list of targets for M*

why you ask?

Lots of time going into these guys and they’re still on the young side of HS so it’s been like this since who knows how young. If that flame burns bright into college good for them. Just an observation, I’ve seen it go both ways. Always rooting for the success story.

Won’t happen. And if it does, I’ll leave this board forever. Bookmark this post boys. This is your chance… :)

Luke Lilledahl (the HS kid that beat Jax) is a Jr and a top 5 P4P recruit. He is elite and should be on Iowa's radar as well. He is from Missouri, currently wrestling at Wyoming Seminary and a U17 world champion. Hopefully him and Gabe Arnold are buddies from his Wyoming Sem days and we can get him on campus. @ao_coachphil might know if there is any mutual interest with Lilledahl.

Jax reversed that decision this year and beat Lilledahl. Jax is part of the McCort group of the Gibson brothers and Bo Bassett who were banned by the PIAA. They are a tight group of kids and parents I am told. The oldest Gibson switched from Cornell to PSU and his bother then committed to PSU. Good chance they are staying together and going to PSU. I have seen Bassett at PSU matches this year.

Someone posted a while ago when Lilledahl was still in Missouri there was an Iowa connection. I had also heard he used to work out with Jesuroga.
