I don't care for ISU, but I'd rather attend a game at Hilton than Carver. It is not even comparable. Not the Hilton is the bees knees, but it is loud, fewer blue hairs knitting in the lower seats, and easy in and out
That's pretty unlikely to happen almost every year.
Yeah, that could work if there is enough room, and it would solve the parking problem being so close to Hancher. According to Google Maps it houses the Iowa Dept of Theatre, which would have to relocated - might end up building another building in that case.
But, it's still not downtown. It's probably easier for students to get to than Carver, but it's not close to restaurants and bars.
Still, it's likely a pipe dream unless it can be combined with something.
Like - the Iowa Memorial Union! The last time I was in it (probably 10 years ago) it was kind of a dump.
The food options are horrid. It’s like from a 1990s movie theatre but likely all that cheap food got much more unhealthy over the last decades.
In Madison you can get a legit quality burger. The options should at least be on par to what some hockey arenas can offer. Well Fargo or Iowa cubs have some variety ant least.
Enough of this volunteers only concessions, this isn’t high school.

Iowa hasn’t been a big time basketball school (for the men) since the turn of the century.
I wondered about the idea of lowering the floor so the the court side seats were actually court side, and then cutting luxury suites into the top sections on each side. The blue hairs in the suites wouldnt have to walk up stairs for restrooms and concessions.
Interesting thought about lowering the floor. Certainly that could be a very cost effective way to create some extra space to work with
The Iowa House Hotel is a dump, it was criminal what they charged us too. They had one kid doing numerous jobs (desk clerk, cleaning lady, janitor). I found out later it is closing this month, so yes they need to raze that POS!

The idea has been tossed out there before. It could create more close to the floor seats for big donors AND students on the sides. I'm picturing the suites looking like how the new press box at Illinois' football stadium cut into one of their previous upper decks.
I stopped listening to anything Jess Settles says after he raved about PMAC's defense.

Simple answer, the women's program is an entertaining product. Men's program is not
I disagree. The women have been nationally more successful sure. But having two really amazing womens players the past few years helps. A regression to the mean with womens will happen soon. Comparing a mens teams attendance to a womens team who last year had the greatest player to ever play the sport isn't fair. Talk to me again in 5 years.
Generally watching women ball is more boring than men. Slower. No dunking. Etc.
The biggest problem to me at carver is the cost of the food. Not the food No one goes to a game to get a great meal FFS. You go to have some food and watch the game. I suspect they'd have better attendance if the beer and food was sold at cost. I paid 10 dollars last night for a crappy pizza. Sell those for 3 dollars and beers for 3 and sodas for 2 and I'd bet it would be better attended. Driving, parking 15 minute walk away in the winter at night on a weekday, missing dinner to get there after work and then to have to drop 30 dollars to get 2 sodas and 2 bad pizzas for a couple is just a bad business plan. I don't think id feel better about the food cost if it were better food.
Get rid of all the empty space courtside. The concourse should be half way up not courtside. The seats behind the basket, even row 1 are 50 feet from the court. Way too much empty space. Build a concourse 20 rows up and move the seats closer to the court. . Create an environment.
