I have a completely different take. Joe T's been this good the whole time, but now Fran finally doesn't have him on quite as short of a leash like he did a few games back and now we are seeing the benefits.
I'm a New Yorker...JT is from the Bronx and played at Cardinal Hayes I believe...Rucker Park is in Harlem, which is right near the Bronx. I'm sure he would have taken the short trip to go play at that park. It's legendary and stud HS players in the area love to go there and test out their ability.I heard he’s from the Bronx, played at Rucker park? Can anyone confirm this?

Don't forget that Fran still pulled him for Evelyn late in that Rutgers game (even though Joe was having a game and Eveyln was doing nothing), only for Evelyn to come in cold and commit two quick turnovers.
Yes, he can turn the ball over a few times. I know that scares a lot of people, but the plays he makes the other times down the floor (and the lockdown defense always) far surpasses anything that Evelyn can provide.
I'm sorry but I'm not going to imagine that.
^Re-read the way the statement this is in response to.
this is incorrect. There have been a few games where Touissant has been extremely out if control and a liability and Evelyn has come in and settled the team down and had a productive game.
And that’s ok. That is actually nice to have because both players are very different. It’s a luxury to have a seasoned, steady Senior PG who can come in when needed.
Toissant is obviously very talented and has way more potential than Evelyn but he’s still a Freshman and it’s not a negative to take him out and calm him down in certain situations.
Fran almost lost the Cincy game by refusing to play him after a few early mistakes (and a lot of bad breaks and bad calls from the ref). When Cincy turned up the ball pressure in the 2nd half, our best ball handler was no where to be found. Everyone makes mistakes, but you have to let them play through them. Senior or freshman. The best players need to be on the floor when it matters most.
That was one of Evelyn’s best games ...
Yes, it was. Then he and everyone else couldn't hold onto the ball in the second half.
And Joe couldn’t hold onto the ball the first half. Evelyn came up huge that game and has helped Iowa build that lead. So you are saying Fran should take him out instead of letting him play through it even though you are saying he shouldn’t take Touissant out and let him play through it?
Look, I’m not saying Evelyn’s a better player than Touissant but there are times you let a young, talented player play through things ... and there are times that you don’t. It’s not always black and white. There have been games when Touissant has been completely out if control and has turnover over the ball 2-3 times in a row and it’s obvious he’s hourlong the team. There is nothing wrong with taking him out, letting him watch and settle down ... especially if you have a steady, calming influence off the bench to do this.
Ulis is going to be good to.Anything else that is not positive you are clueless. He was HUGE HUGE HUGE!!!!!!!!!

I've followed Fran's teams since when he was back at Siena. The most crucial position in his offense is the PG. Iowa has never had a PG that can push the pace and play with the tenacity that JT does. Siena had a PG Ronald Moore, who started as a freshman and was the backbone of that 3 year run for Siena. Look him up. Fast as lightening. Everything went through him. He was a non stop energizer bunny running up and down the floor all game. The difference here is that JT can score. Moore couldn't.
Trust me...The Ronald Moore comparison says it all. JT will be the backbone of this team for the next few years. And his role is only going to increase down the stretch of this season. This team will be really tough to beat.
Glad you like it. Check out the article link below from 2009 about Ronald Moore's impact on the entire game because of his speed and effort. Look, I can't stress it enough. These types of PG's are rare. And they are often overlooked by the bigger programs because they are smaller in size and don't project to the NBA level. And rarely do the good ones get into a system that fits them. But if you are lucky enough to get this type of PG and combine him with Fran's uptempo offense, the team is seriously going to be really really good. It also makes it near impossible for any opponent to run any type of press against him because he quickly breaks it and it will result in an easy bucket. And his energy translates to the defensive end and will cause turnovers and also influence his teammates to step up their defensive effort. This team will begin to implement a 4q or 3q press a lot more, watch. Turnovers will come. Iowa will look like one of those elite Louisville squads from about 10 years ago.that is really good input---thanks.
I agree. When he came in after CJ hit those ft's at 7:28 (2nd) things started changing. Pace picked up, defense picked up, and Joe made the others better down the stretch. After rewatching the game a second time, he was all over the court in the last 7 minutes. Watch him on defense and watch him hunting down rebounds. He did a lot more than provide some much needed offense. This kids a fighter. If this is a what east coast high school basketball is all about then screw the Chicago pipeline.
there is a key word in your post. I will see if you can figure it out.
I'll just post the opposing view by our friend CyTwins and his buddy mitchforcy:
"Toussaint is not good, shoots too much. Connor, Evelyn and Pemsl all suck. Feel free to point out what you disagree with that."
"Eh, he looks good like 20 % of the time. Kid doesn't have a jump shot and plays out of control."

Yeah yeah I know, we won the game. Therefore all the moves Fran made were good, and all of the moves the Cincy coach made were terrible. Brilliant logic.
