Josh Jackson 4.49 at the Combine

AW and JJ will both be drafted, and should make the final cut of an NFL team based on special teams potential. That said, they'll be fighting daily to keep their respective jobs. Lots of available players at their talent/speed level.

How many times have we seen guys who run a fast 40 be relevant?

Not my point.......football instincts are where it's at for these guys. JJ has great football instincts and they will only get better. Same for AW. His football instincts are off the chart on when and where to cut and predicting how a defender is going to commit...........

LOL............Josh is going to be a Millionaire lottery winner soon.
And you will be watching him play on Sundays.

Foot drills come on, man
Yup, need to remember that he's a converted WR with one full season's experience at CB. Once he's on the payroll, all those "foot work" problems with be addressed. Prime Time thinks JJ is an NFL safety, and he may be correct.

This kind of reminds me of how Desmond King was a bit too slow at the Combine, then ends up being perhaps the best Corner, as a ROokie in the NFL.

and if you read on I mention that his timed agility drills were good.

During the time of back pedal drills he looked uncomfortable and not interested and was essentially being mocked on NFL network. D Sanders went so far as to say he is a safety at this time. So how bout you cmon man

he played receiver for about one week his soph year, and was quoted as such

he was one of the better rookie corner/safeties but by no means one of the better corners as a whole

I don't care how he looked in drills. We all saw Josh Jackson play the actual game of football, not run around without pads on. As a Chiefs fan, I would have no problem with them taking JJ in the 1st round to replace Marcus Peters.
Maybe the combine is a way for the NFL to offer lower salaries and also get sleepers who become keepers.

King succeeded because he went to a team that plays a defense (mostly zone) that played to his strengths and put him in a position that played to those strengths. King spent nearly all his time as a rookie playing the slot, where his tackling ability, ability to blitz the passer and to be generally not be matched up on the No. 1 receiver all were good for him. If the Chargers (or any NFL team) wanted King to play on the outside every down and predominantly press-man all the time, he probably wouldn't do very well. Or at least as well.

The reason that the 40 time is important for Jackson is teams covet/want the guy who can play outside every down as they are so hard to find. Jackson has the size (6-1), flexibility and ball skills to succeed. Personally I think he's plenty fast enough, but what do I know?

The 40 times don't always hurt Iowa guys. Bob Sanders blazed to something like 4.42 or a ridiculously fast time. That convinced the Colts to look past his height and take him in the 2nd round. He went on to be Defensive Player of the Year.

The NFL doesn't have it in for Iowa guys or any team's players. The measurables do matter in terms of assessing what a player might be capable of. It's not everything, but it's something.
