Josh Jackson

If we'd won he'd be national D player of the week again. He did get beat deep late in the game by an amazing catch and throw and he missed on a couple of tackles late, but color him gone as he'll be making big bucks next year.

I'd guess he's early 2nd round.

It seemed like every 3rd pick in last years draft was a DB. I think all that "inventory" contributed to DK's drop in the draft. Maybe this year, there won't be so many?

If he can do in the top 2 rounds, he has to go. Too much risk to wait.

What’s the school record for INTs? Dez tied it, right? Like after 8 games and never got the record breaker?

I think Nile Kinnick may still have a share of that INT record along with the Kings and, of course, he only played 8 games per season, no bowl game, and the forward pass was generally used sparingly.

Josh Jackson has to go pro. Sorry but he is having a great year and its his 1st year of being a starter. I hate to say it, but if he stays, his stock will only drop like Dez's did. Teams will throw away from him and he won't get much action. If he performs well at the combine, he could be a late 1st rounder to 2nd round.

Kirk will tell him to stay another year then he'll be a 2nd or 3rd round pick the following year. Do whats best for the kid...right.

Is there something wrong with that? Also, KF can tell him whatever he wants, but it’s Jackson’s choice in the end. Also, before you bring up King, his mom wanted him to graduate and he promised her he would.

Wrong CLOWN1. Kirk will sit him down and go over all his options and Jackson will make a decision based on what is best for him and his family. Kirk will tell him he would love it if he stays, but he will also be honest with him and let him know what he is hearing from NFL scouts and coaches. Jackson graduates in May. A good chance he may flee. Whatever he decides, Kirk will support him.

I don’t hate ISU....just their dumbass fans.

Not an apples to apples comparison with king and Jackson. Kings alleged shortcomings would have existed whether he came out early or not and his draft position likely would have been the same. By coming back, he wasn’t able to magically grow three inches...he came back to get a degree, attempt to win the B1G and further refine his skills. Jackson on the other hand possesses the physical attributes scouts covet...and as a result suspect he will get feedback that he’ll be drafted in the first two rounds and he will likely declare for the draft. He’s earned it, that’s for sure, wish him the best regardless of what he decides to do.

I disagree with your assessment, though admittedly I am no expert. . I think his measure-ables and ball skills will get him into 1st round. 6'1, great vertical, and I think he's got pretty good speed based on seeing him be only Iowa player to run down that Minnesota RB at goal line a couple weeks back.

Jackson reminds me of Bradley Fletcher, with better ball skills that set him apart.

P.S. Desmond dropped a lot because CB class was unusually deep + Kings size/speed made him project more as safety or nickle back as I recall.

The one area of recruiting Iowa has been doing really well for several years is at CB. That's the one position where it feels like Iowa just reloads.

King’s life sure turned out crappy by staying at Iowa. The kid starts in the NFL & is making millions. Oh, & he has a degree to be proud of & use after his football career is over.

Yeah, Dez was an idiot to stay at Iowa. If he’d left early his life would be the exact same except without a degree of course

Jackson will graduate in May....he will be gone if projected 1st round. King’s stock was never hurt by coming back as many on this board have written. NFL had concerns about his top end speed for man coverage....that never changed. Jackson has length and high end speed, which make him a higher ranked pro prospect.

Banging on Dez for coming back and getting his degree instead of leaving for the NFL after winning the Thorpe is what ISU fans do since they don't have any draft picks of their own to talk about.

I just like our chances here of JJ coming back- Wadley, King and Jewell all could have gone early so our luck lately has been very good. There was a common thread among the three of them that they all wanted to return to win big- and complete unfinished business after disappointing bowl blowouts. With the Cy-Hawk, Floyd and likely Heroes trophies secured New Years Day glory is all that eludes them and I think they get it this year.

He's not making millions. He got drafted in the 5th round and dropping that far cost him millions. For Iowa's sake, I'm glad he stayed. He may have fallen even if he came out early, too, so at least he got his degree. He'll need it after his NFL career is over.

Isn’t his contract worth around 3 million? I’d call that making millions.

Why in the hell are we not playing him as a receiver, as well? He could do no worse than what we saw the regular crew do yesterday.

Teams missed on Desmond. The assumptions people are making here about where he could have, possibly, maybe, would’ve gone a year early is funny.

It's about $2.6 over 4 years. His signing bonus was $280,000, but that's the only guaranteed money in the contract. In other words, if he gets hurt and then cut in the offseason he'll only have made $450,000. If he doesn't get cut and is active on the roster each game for four years then he'll make $2.6 million, but in none of the first four seasons will he make a million dollars in a single year. I'm not sneezing at $450,000 at all, but my point is the simple fact that he isn't guaranteed to make millions. That's why you see the quality NFL vets signing free agent deals with huge dollar amounts of guaranteed money. No matter what happens to them they'll at least get that amount, even if they get cut. But even if King makes $2.6 mill over four years, there's no guarantee he'll still be in the NFL or be able to sign a big contract. Hence, it's a good thing he got his degree. No one can play football forever and $450,000 and even $2.6 million is not enough money to live on for the rest of a person's life. Not any more and given how much housing prices and whatnot continue to rise year to year he'll need to work after he retires if $2.6 million is the total amount of money he makes. Getting drafted in the first round is a big deal in terms of guaranteed money.

Wadley could have left early...if he wanted to go undrafted and playing on a scout team somewhere. I'm not convinced he's a draft pick now (he'll get an invite to a camp though, that's for sure). Jewell? Probably could have left early, but he made a wise choice to come back. He's improved his draft position considerably this year. As others have said with King, he probably ends up at about the same place if he leaves a year early or not. That's my opinion at least.
