Josh Dix

replacing his points isn't that hard in the aggregate. get a better defender that is an average shooter. It would have been nice to have that good of a shooter with stirtz, plus have someone teach him some defense.

The most disgusting part of this, is the reference to "his agent". I'm ambivalent at best about whether a 20 year old college kid needs an agent, but because the NCAA or whoever is in charge has sat back and done nothing to put some controls on this we've arrived at this point in college athletics. But, since we're here, at a bare minimum, they need to do something about these agents. The NFL has standards for agents. They must be certified before they can represent players. They need to impose standards on these people.

From what I can tell, I don't think the NCAA has any requirements on agents. So some are getting ridiculous percentages, with no governors on their conduct. For example, shopping players before they're even in the portal, lying to schools/collectives only to drive up the price of a player. Unfortunately, some schools/collectives are more than willing to play along. Whoever is in charge needs to get on top of this, at the very least. That should be tampering. And if an agent is involved in it, he should be suspended from representing players. If those in charge (is there anyone in charge?) continue to do nothing, it will only get worse.

Final point, the idea of NIL as the basis for a college athlete to earn some money is so quaint, as this pay for play has gotten so far beyond what I believe the original intention was. All the NCAA had to do 15 years ago (or whenever it was) was to agree to provide Ed O'Bannon some small royalty for using his image (and any other player), but they decided to play hard ball, and got it stuffed up their behind. Now the NCAA sits in the corner whimpering, unwilling and unable to do anything. And we're left with this mess.

Bummer but he's one that I hold absolutely no ill-will. Hard to compete against being right at home (especially given his mom's health supposedly) and I presume more $$$.

Best of luck Josh!
his mom's health has NOTHING to do with it obviously.....since he visited Illinois and Indiana, schools even farther away from Council Bluffs, it's ALL about the MONEY...............

You have no idea what you are talking about. IU apparently had by far the highest offer. At Creighton, Josh gets to be nearer his family and make a $1M more than being at Iowa. Kind of amazing that Josh still was considering Iowa.

Time to move on. The Josh Dix saga is only a tiny slice of the bigger issue facing college sports. It's starting to remind me of the tech bubble of the late 90s/early 00s, or the housing bubble that followed. It won't last forever, nothing does. This won't either. It depends on how much those "in charge" care enough about the long-term health of college sports to do something about it before it's too late. And, I think this applies to the schools that can currently "afford" to play the game. You can't convince me that they also would not embrace some type of regulations/standards on all of this.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but for those of you who thought NIL was going to be a quaint way to reward players for their contributions to the financial status of a university's athletic department, shame on you. This was always where it was destined to go.

I saw with how well Ben has coached lesser talent, Dix probably should have gave returning more thought. I think he got locked in on the idea of cashing in when he had no coach. So hard to switch back to what’s best for his development. As it’s not impossible Dix could be a similar but lesser AJ Green in nba.

Yep. There's never been a slipperier slope.

Life changing $$$$

Can’t begrudge the kid. Great Hawk.

At least he didn’t transfer to a rival within the conference like the new cornfusker.

Yes, it would protect all parties involved

It wasn't destined to get here (edit: It didn't need to end up here), but because there were no controls/standards ever imposed, it did end up here. The bloated, greedy arrogance of the NCAA is the real culprit at the core of all of this. So, in that sense, it was inevitable because of the buffoons who were ostensibly "in charge".

I’ll never blame a kid for taking the bag in this ****ed up system.
What I have a problem with is that he and Freeman were both rumored to go to Creighton back in January. I have heard that I was always Creighton but obviously he did take some other visits. It’s the quitting on your team and thinking about where you’re gonna transfer with two months left in the season that makes him a little bitch in my eyes so he can **** off. I hope he sucks balls next year. And I guarantee Creighton overpaid for him and I won’t be cheering for those tampering bastards.

This certainly wasn't what I envisioned, though in retrospect I should have...isn't everything a shit show anymore?

I innocently thought athlete's would be paid to do commercials and compensated for the revenue generated by their universities. I do remember seeing Patrick do some pizza or food commercial but that is probably the only person I have seen when it when it comes to the real name, image and likeness(Caitlyn excluded).

I get that.

I also think these schools are contacting players in season and when they offer 7 figures….itd be pretty hard to ignore.

If the players instigated the contact…bad on them. I think it’s reasonable to assume the schools instigated the contact or at least their collectives.

Did you miss all the Juju commercials during the tournament coverage? Also, Flajae Johnson from LSU had a couple. Hy-Vee also featured Audie Crooks in a commercial.

I guess tampering at any time during the season is now legal, too.

You are wrong about Dix's defense. Iowa sucked. Dix is a + defender.
+ on iowa's team. Maybe he will pick it up for a new coach but there are plenty of better defenders to be had. A 8pt/game glue defender is better than a 12pt a game average defender. Dix was average. You can't make the case that any player, outside maybe joe toussaint, that played for fran is a good to great defender.

Creighton has a pretty damn good coach, so this is kind of silly. Creighton = near to home, a good coach, and $1M more dollars. I'm sure a lot of the on-line heroes criticizing Josh would have returned to Iowa. If he was just cashing in, he would have gone to play for DeVries at IU for reportedly another $1M or more. NIL sucks!

Your opinion, for what it is worth. Apparently, a few other top programs think otherwise.
