Justin Mejia

I know a DeZeeuw from Spencer. He told me once there aren't many out there. HUGE Minnesota fan.
Jay DeZeeuw was a teacher in the Spencer School System at one time. Not sure if he's around anymore or not.

Long live Terry Cook! The first match that I can remember from the state tourney. We rooted hard for Jeff because he was a local kid but damned if that wasn't a great match.
Would that be against Jeff Carter or Jeff Gibbons?

C'mon Jaysdad give us some good news

Ok that sounded a little selfish, how about giving us good news regarding Justin

Hope it's not too bad. Justin has a great chance at being a 4 X state champ. Praying that knee isn't as bad as reported. I watched the video of the match. It's a little difficult to tell how the injury happened. Justin is up big towards the end of the 2nd period in his first round match and is riding on top. His opponent is attempting to fight off Justin's ride and Justin looks to drive him out of bounds. The ref stops the action and Justin lays on his back holding his knee (right knee I think) with a look of anguish on his face. After an injury timeout the match continues and although Justin is as fierce as ever, he is clearly affected by the injury and only able to convert 1 takedown the entire third period and wins big 16-2. He walks off the mat a little gingerly, but nothing too noticeable.

Aww shit...this sucks. Tore mine my senior year wrestling a turd in our last dual meet before districts (state qualifier). I was still able to win districts but had a tough time at state against the better guys....bad luck on my part as I was favored to be in the finals. If it's that, depending on severity, he still might be able to do some post season stuff. Really sorry to hear that Mr. Meija.

I am praying for a speedy recovery. Hopefully it is a case of a quick scope and only missing 2-3 weeks. One of my boys wrestled with his torn meniscus and didn't affect him much once he knew that it wasn't going to get worse. Other times it can lock your knee up with no warning.

Gibbons...I grew up around Ames.
Oh Boy! That one was a doozy. Terry is a family friend so I followed his career pretty closely. I actually felt bad for Jeff, as he got the hell booed out of him on the award stand, due to a horrible call by the ref either at the end of the match or OT that should have won it for Cook, don't recall how it all went down but I was there and it was crap, as most of the building obviously agreed (too damn old to remember apparently! Ha!). Brother Jim would have said "No Shit"! Ha!

Terry was undefeated as a freshman wrestling I think defending Champ Rick DeBartolo from Dowling at 105 (from my earlier post I thought he was at 98 which was Jeff Carter from Dowling, but that name didn't sound right! Ha!), and my Father and I had press passes, so I got the "family" camera from his folks and went down matside to take pictures for them in the Final. Pretty cool. Terry had 3 losses entering his Senior year, all to the State Champ, going 2-3-2. DeBartolo, Timmy Klinghammer and Jeff Gibbons, all 2 Timers I think. Hell of a career for ol Terry, and I think Klinghammer majored him, only ass kicking I ever saw him have in H.S or kids tournaments. He also used to work out with Tim Krieger from Mason City and travel to kids tournaments together quite a bit, although Krieger obviously got bigger and what not (and fared pretty well in college................;)).
