Did I hear correctly today? Did the announcers say Keegan isn’t a candidate for POY because his team isn’t good enough? WTF?!?
I put this in a different post, but I think Keagan might actually be the DPY in the Big. He is 4th in blocked shots and 8th in steals. And as you mentioned, he has been shutting down our opponents best players. He can guard any position on the court, which is incredible. To me, you add that to his offense and there’s no question he’s the Big POY.I think Kofi is the most likely choice, but at this point, Keegan is definitely in the race for POY. Unless the Hawks finish over .500, it might be hard for Keegan to win. There are at least 5 deserving candidates IMO, and for a change, all are great players on both ends of the court.
For the last 3 games, Keegan not only has gone nuts on offense, he has totally taken one of the other team's top players out of their game. Yesterday, McGowens got NOTHING when Keegan was guarding him. McGowens might be the freshman of the year in the B1G. At Maryland, Scott got very little, and he is critical cog in Maryland's offense. Battle for Minny looked dejected trying to play against Keegan. Good things happen when Keegan does not get in early foul trouble.
I agree. He's a complete player with no holes in his game whatsoever. From a total impact perspective nobody really comes close to him in the Fran era. Luka was great on the offensive end but teams often keyed on his lack of mobility on defense. Kofi can dominate from inside. Keegan can dominate from everywhere as can Liddel, Davis and Ivey. I still think Kofi wins it because he came in as the favorite and he plays on probably the best team in the conference.I put this in a different post, but I think Keagan might actually be the DPY in the Big. I'm amazed at how easy he makes this game look. Even in the paint with 2-3 guys all over him he finds a way to get a shot off and making it. I love how he attacks! If Keegan continues to score 30 a game over the last seven games of the regular season and Iowa can win five of those games, then I think he has an excellent shot at POY. He is basically carrying the team this season. It is going to be a fun last three weeks of the regular season.
This is the Big10 guys, they threw us a bone with Garza. Not happening two years in a row.
I couldn't remember, three in a row is even less likely... Especially for an Iowa.Already did dude,.. Garza BIG10 POY '20 & '21.

I do not disagree, but if they POY was for the best all-around BBall player Keegan would win IMO.Cockburn is probably the odds on favorite, but Keegan Murray is the more well rounded player AINEC. Kofi has a better Rebounds/game and shoots a slightly higher %age but Keegan is better in every other statistical category.
If that were the case Garza wouldn't have won his.I do not disagree, but if they POY was for the best all-around BBall player Keegan would win IMO.
He shoots a higher percentage because he can't score from >5 feet from the basket. Keegan is miles ahead of cock-burn, and his draft stock reflects that. Cockboy is so one dimensional it would be a shame if he won big ten POY. At least Garza could shoot. Cocky also has a great supporting cast... Garza could score from anywhere, rebound, and had tons of blocks. Sounds like a pretty well rounded player to me.If that were the case Garza wouldn't have won his.

Shoe-in for rookie of the year maybeI'm pretty sure Keegan will suffer the same fate as Andre Woolridge.
Woolridge was the first player in Big Ten history to lead the league in scoring and assists but the POY award was instead given to Bobby Jackson of Minnesota.... who you may recall was a central figure in the academic scandal run by Clem Haskins that year.
He's a shoe-in next year though.![]()
Not too mention he'd have half their team in foul trouble lolGarza could score from anywhere, rebound, and had tons of blocks. Sounds like a pretty well rounded player to me.

We actually lost four starters from that team with two i the NBA. Nunge might be the missing piece. Frederick, when healthy, would be a starter. With that said, I’m pretty excited about Sandfort and his ceiling.
I don’t know, check out the women’s awards.I couldn't remember, three in a row is even less likely... Especially for an Iowa.
Agreed, Kofi is nothing more then a large athletic body, but In basketball, one can take over a game when the other team can't match his size and strength. His game as you have indicated is around the rim but in three years he has improved he rebounding, free throw percentage, strength, and overall team play that makes him the number one player opponents have to double or triple team leaving Frazer, Plummer, or Williams open for uncontested shots.Cockburn, IMHO, is not a basketball player or even a particularly good athlete. That he is even being mentioned as a possible POY at any level is disgusting. He's a brute whose only "skill" is using his big-as-a-barn-body to bounce people out of the lane while he rebounds or dunks. Please feel free to provide any evidence to the contrary.
As others have said, Kofi's shooting range extends to, maybe, five feet. He certainly isn't a great ball handler. And if the refs called fouls on him the way they do on Keegan and Josh O, well, Kofi would be lucky to play about ten minutes a game or to score 10 points a game. Nearly every time he touches the ball he travels, commits an offensive foul, or both, but he's almost never called for either. Not to mention that he spends more time in the lane than drivers stuck in traffic on the 101 in LA. If that's your POY, you don't know squat about basketball. Again, IMHO, of course.
There are many outstanding basketball player/athletes in the BIG and around the country. Kofi C ain't one of 'em. It would be a travesty of enormous proportions if Cockburn were named POY. Period.
It must have been a travesty when Shaq won his MVP…Cockburn, IMHO, is not a basketball player or even a particularly good athlete. Was just thinking about asking that guy's opinion on Shaq. Or even Rudy Gobert. I'm sure they're both cheaters who always get the beneficial calls from the refs as well.It must have been a travesty when Shaq won his MVP…
Iowa did not lose 4 starters.
Are you really comparing Kofi to Shaq? No comparison whatsoever...in fact that's a insult to Shaq who was dominate in all phases of the game.It must have been a travesty when Shaq won his MVP…
Yeah it was a little much post game when the panel was discussing Fran and D and they stated Iowa's D was ranked like 120 something or other and in the same breath switching styles of D throughout the game is Fran's specialty. I almost spit out my coffee.I heard them say the opposite - he is not only a candidate for B1G POY, but potentially National POY - although that is where they did say that team record will probably hold him back.
They really had a lot of great things to say about Keegan and Fran/Iowa in general replacing 2 NBA players and still playing well.
