Frederick, Garza and Wieskamp, plus Nunge who had started previously, largely lost his job due to injuries.
nunge did not start last year. He started early in his career at the 3 spot.

That’s I meant by that. Honestly Nunge’s tough luck with injuries, really altered the direction of the team the last 3 years. Combined with Pemsyl’s injuries, it more than anything is what thrust Connor into such a prominent role as a starter prior to this year. Kinda wonder whether he’d have stuck it out with basketball or switched to baseball full time eventually once Patrick arrived.nunge did not start last year. Before the season I assumed he would be DPY based on his play last year but I didn't anticipate his level of offense.I put this in a different post, but I think Keagan might actually be the DPY in the Big. He is 4th in blocked shots and 8th in steals. And as you mentioned, he has been shutting down our opponents best players. He can guard any position on the court, which is incredible. To me, you add that to his offense and there’s no question he’s the Big POY.
I would say KM is player of the year. Do I think he'll get it? Nope. For some reason their is a lot of discounting Keegan by media. They just won't quite commit. If Iowa wins out or at least the majority and Keegan has a few more 30+ games then maybe
Koffi would have been a straight out of High-school #1 pick twenty years ago and Chet Holmgren would have probably been a second rounder.Yesterday‘s win was huge for Keegan. He outplayed Liddell. Liddell fouled him and was credited for the block. Keegan returned the favor and blocked Liddell clean. He also posterized him on a dunk down the lane. In my opinion, Keegan is the best player in the league and Top 5 in the country.
Kofi is just a bull and has no basketball skills. How many other 7 footers with his size weren’t lottery pics? If you remember, he was rumored to be transferring and he had no takers, so he came back to Illinois. Keegan, Ivey and Davis are lottery picks.
If we could win out and end up at 13-7 Keegan wins POY.
If not, it will be either Ivey or Kofi due to their first place finish.
As others have mentioned, though, Ayo was probably an all around better basketball player than Garza; he was certainly a better defender and more versatile offensively. But that’s not how they give out the awards. He shoots a higher percentage because he can't score from >5 feet from the basket. Keegan is miles ahead of cock-burn, and his draft stock reflects that. Cockboy is so one dimensional it would be a shame if he won big ten POY. At least Garza could shoot. Cocky also has a great supporting cast... Murray 100%
This. 100%.He probably won't win it, but he's the best player in the Big Ten
Probably yes. He's easily the best player in the conference, Advanced Stats like Win Shares and PER on Collebe Basketball Reference have him up there by himself. He is a great player. Probably, with emphasis on probably, won't win the award as it will go to Davis from Wisconsin, if I were to guess. But especially if Iowa wins at Illinois, the case grows stronger.Should easily be the B1GPOY, but they'll probably give this individual award to the player on the team that won the B1G (by the skin of their teeth)
There are times where Kofi reminds me of Shaq. He’s obviously not on that level, but there are shades of the same game there. As others have mentioned, though, Ayo was probably an all around better basketball player than Garza; he was certainly a better defender and more versatile offensively. But that’s not how they give out the awards.
Also, whoever said Kofi has no basketball skills is a chump. The guy would be a moron not to use his size to his advantage (are people seriously counting this against him??), but he clearly displays impressive athleticism, skill and coordination for his size, as well as being a pretty good defender.
It might take the smaller Johnny Davis more shots to get his average, but Wisconsin has finished at the top of the league when they were expected to finish around 10th after losing so many starters from last year. Like Keegan, Davis is their go to guy and after they beat Purdue on Saturday I believe he cemented the BTPOTY award. No disrespect to Keegan as they both deserve the trophy. It takes Johnny Davis atleast 15 shots to get to 23 point
Keegan Murray is the player of the year and it's not close IMO. What sets him apart is his Defense. He's the most well rounded player in the Big Ten hands down (his only weakness is the foul line). Give it to him and move on.It might take the smaller Johnny Davis more shots to get his average, but Wisconsin has finished at the top of the league when they were expected to finish around 10th after losing so many starters from last year. That's my take, but Keegan could just as well win the POTY, the voting will be that close..
And he shoots a much lower FG percentage than Keegan. But to me, the real difference is defense. Keegan is among the conference leaders in blocks, rebounding and steals. He can guard anyone and that, with his scoring, makes him the only choice for POY.It takes Johnny Davis atleast 15 shots to get to 23 point
