Keegan not ready for NBA

Lol go look at all the losses t cook had on the road in the B1G. I think they lost every single one by double digits one year.

Love me some Keegan but he needs at least another year. Way too inconsistent and doesn’t have the killer instinct yet.
lmao he needs "at least another year" being coached by Fran ? Yeah because that'll really help him improve. 🤣 He's easily a 1st round pick and as another poster correctly pointed out, the NBA drafts on potential and Keegan is a freak of nature with endless amounts of potential.

In short, he's as good as gone when Iowa's season ends.

You don’t understand how the NBA draft works.

Another year at Iowa won’t matter, regardless.
I don't Black, you are correct.
I just am basing it on what I see and that another year of experience in most sports prepares one better. I'm not familiar with the NBA draft process.

I fail to see how another year at iowa will prepare him for the NBA when current draft projections already have him as a 1st round pick. Coaching/development at any NBA organization>Any coaching/development he would gain from another year at Iowa.

Davis from Wisconsin sucked for awhile against the Gophers on Sunday and then picked it up. Same with Keegan.

And someone else needs to be a scoring threat. Cool thing about the NBA there are other guys that need to be guarded, and you gets lots of support.

Why the hell would another year of classes, distractions, and inferior competition be better for a prospective pro player than graduating and dedicating 100% of their time to basketball? Even if they end up in the G League for a year or two, the level of competition is still higher than in college

There is some world class rationalizing in this thread. The reality is that Keegan is a first rounder and he should be gone

Lol no.

He's not going anywhere. Deal with it, Illini fan.

Well here's a few incentive's to stay. It's college - friends - atmosphere - a chance to take a team to another level - play with your brother.....and another reason last year the #10 pick was guaranteed around 7.5 M - where the #5 pick was guaranteed around 11.3 M. Anyway I would just like to see the Murray brothers another year.

Most analysts have Keegan a Top 10 pick in the Draft. Some have him as high as #6.

Check out the GUARANTEED money he is looking at.

In the 2021 NBA Draft:

#10 pick: Ziaire Williams

Ziaire signed a 4 year / $19,907,925 contract with the Memphis Grizzlies ($19,907,925 guaranteed)

#6 pick: Josh Giddey

Josh signed a 4 year / $27,214,807 contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder ($27,214,807 guaranteed)

Selfishly, I hope he stays. He improved a lot over the past year and he would likely make strides again. Getting to play with his brother might be a draw to stay…..but I’m not sure another year really helps his draft stock. If he’s a top-half of the first round pick this year, he’s probably not going to improve on that next year. He could absolutely hold position and/or still be a first-round pick, but with a new class of elite freshmen doing the one-and-done thing, it would be hard for Keegan to move up with any real significance.

That said, I’ll repeat, as an Iowa fan, I hope he decides to play another year with big bro.

Exactly… Expectations are way out of whack on this kid. Big Ten Media keeps calling him all world— He has gone from role player to Mr Everything, that’s tough on a kid.. Totally agree, as a whole this team needs a bit more toughness maybe a better strength/ conditioning philosophy.

Do people here not watch the NBA at all? It's not about having a "polished" game or a few bad games suddenly making a guy not draft-able.

He will be able to help an NBA team by guarding multiple positions, being in position to attack the basket when the floor is spread because the other players on the floor can score, etc. As an Iowa fan, I would be thrilled if he came back for another year but he doesn't "need" to come back to improve his draft stock. He could come back and average 30 points a game and it wouldn't improve his draft stock.

I expect him to go.
I just thought a lottery pick would look different. Probably would look different on a better team.

Agree, Keegan scores 21 after half, including a 3 pointer, a block, and a tip in to tie, all in the last minute
that is all NBA stuff.

why would he agree to play under Frans archaic rules another year?
Would you really allow your sons to play with Iowa's shit show coaching staff? Be thankful the 2 boys stayed as long as they did. Next year will be a trip watching this program without them. Fun times 🥱

To answer your first question; 95% of people on this board do not watch the NBA (and they're proud of it).

This board is full of people who watch Iowa, but no other basketball. They're Iowa fans, but not necessarily fans of the sport basketball.

Didn't his Kenyon start a thread at the beginning of the year asking what Keagan should do and unequivocally everyone said Keagan should go. Guess what, Keagan SHOULD go. He will make tons of money. That is what it is all about. And that is okay. We should be happy for him.

Well a lot has changed since the lineup change. Clearly I was wrong and he will definitely be a lottery pick. Kris will be our leading scorer next year.

Lots of dumb in this thread and lots of people commenting about the NBA that only watch Iowa basketball. As usual Dodger hit it out of the park on this one. He actually might be the most NBA ready guy out there. Tell me who has a better all around game? Keegan can slash, he can shoot the 3, he can dunk in your face and he can guard multiple positions. At this point he might go top 5. He is carrying a team picked for near the bottom of the league. He’s the best all around player I’ve seen at Iowa in my life.

Keegan needs to stay and play with his brother at least one more year. :)

In all seriousness though - I realize that KM is almost certainly gone after this year. I'd love to have him stick around (being selfish as a fan) but he seems to have all the tools to play at the next level. I've resigned myself to this, so am enjoying the ride right NOW, while I can.

He really has a complete game. No obvious weakness to exploit at the college level. Can get to rim on his own, has midrange and 3pt jumper, rebounds, good passer, can defend all 5 positions. Most complete game I’ve seen from an iowa player in decades.

Reminds me of Calbert Chaney.

smooth, quiet, efficient, and after the game his stat line looks way better than your initial guess.

He's definitely improved even this year. Mostly in being able to play good defense without fouling, which enables him to stay on the floor more. He also is looking to be aggressive in taking it to the basket, forcing contact and making refs call fouls. Yes, he ocassionally gets a charge, but knows when to dial it back if he needs to.

In the NBA, I would imagine his defense will be even better as he can be more aggressive and not worry about fouls. Barring something really weird, he will have a long NBA career.

The only thing that was questionable a couple months ago was the 3 point shot

The lunacy on these types of threads always reveal how so many people are clueless. As if NBA teams don’t have a weight room or a practice gym. The only thing NBA teams learn by guys coming back is how much they develop from one year to the next, their work ethic. That’s why the Pistons took Garza and gave him a full contract shortly thereafter, because they know he’s never going to stop trying to get better. Keegan has literally nothing to prove In college. He’s the absolute prototype of what literally every NBA team wants from a “cheap” 20 year old and will be in the rotation on day one no matter where he goes.
