Saw a stat during the game that so far this year King was targets 11 times for 5 completions. Didn't show yards or scores. I was curious as to what Mabin's stats were and what the yards and scores against were.

If King is/was 11/5 then Mabin must be like 70/52.

King is literally shutting down half of the field. There was a chart of every ball thrown at him and the only completions were about 5 yards and in. He is probably playing a better corner this year than last year.

Yep, he hasn't had as many opportunities to pick balls off as last year but he is breaking up just about everything thrown his way. He had at least 3 PBU against Northwestern alone. At some point he will get beat and people will point out that play but he has played great.
I know he has a missed tackle on a big run against Rutgers (i think) but he is a great tackler as well. I haven't seen the stats from this year, but he only missed 5 tackles the last two seasons. That is unbelievable in the open field.

Mabin has played very well after game one - where even that game wasn't as bad as most wanted to make it. If there are 100 issues this team is dealing with, cornerback play is arguable #99 or #100.

Opposing Offensive Coordinator's Checklist for beating Iowa
Step 1 - Run the ball down the throat of the soft underbelly (code for Front 4)
Step 2 - Identify the WR being covered by either outside LB (esp. #41)
Step 3 - If no WRs covered by #41 or #44, ID and throw to any eligible receiver covered by #37, #19, or #13
Step 4 - Under no circumstances intentionally throw (or kick in the case of 4th down) at #14
Step 5 - Determine (and practice if necessary) the postgame locker room celebration chant or song
Step 6 - Enjoy the rest of your Saturday

I don't like the fact that this happening in BIG ten locker rooms everywhere.
Probably. Maybe not. But probably.

Was that missed tackle the one where he just ran next to the guy trying to pop the ball out? I thought it was a bad idea at the time, until he stepped on him in the process and took him out of the game entirely. I'd bet if he wanted to tackle him he could have, he just decided to try and strip it.

He has successfully broken up passes of receivers not covered by him; he has been impressive.

Not "very well", but he has largely been fine, imo. You are right, lots of other problems.

It seems like the safeties have been cheating to Mabins side since game one and that's not a knock to him but they have to trust Mabin and focus on everything else.

Basically Amari Spivey in 2009. Teams wouldn't throw at him at all that year. Took a dip in stats from the year before, but shut down his side of the field.

Sadly, this is not far from the truth because people don't want Iowa to win. They thought they could rest on their laurels a little bit last year after Iowa's 2014 season, and Iowa was playing with a bit more motivation to succeed and break through and that played a part in our success.
