Sux to be them. Luckily they won’t have to forfeit the season.

John Lennon asked us to imagine: let De Sousa play and Self coach but ban KU from post season play for 5 years. 
The rule is straightforward. If you have a third-party (in this case, the guardian) get involved in your recruiting you are responsible for what they do. It is beyond belief that DeSousa did not know the guardian was getting money for him to go to Kansas.
Honestly, the way it was written, Kansas should be getting punished as a program, not DeSousa himself. A University booster was paying his mother and I don't see how that falls on the kid and not the university. Classic NCAA injustice.

Part of the fun, when your at KU's level. Self has one of these almost every year for the last three or four years it seems like. Eligibilty issues, possible money changing hands, one thing or another. Yet they just keep winning. Ah the big 12.........

First thing you have to know is the NCAA is a member institution governing body not an independent authority. They’ve figured out punishing their money making programs is bad for business. Who inflicts damage on themselves?

I never said that it didn't. This thread was about KU, was it not? My reference to the (big 12) was because no matter how many of these guys Self brings in, and they end up being ineligible, they still win without them, even though it has left them short handed.
According to the story, it was not a booster paying Desousa's guardian it was an Adidas representative. That is why the reps from Adidas are being dragged into court. It was an ingenious scheme because it did not involve boosters in any way. It was reps of shoe companies paying players to go to certain schools (which had contracts with the shoe company, in this case, Adidas). That's why Kansas has portrayed itself as the "victim" in this case.
Again, it defies belief that Self did not know what was going on with Adidas to get players to his school. But there is a difference between common sense telling us something and legally proving it.
There may be strong evidence to support Self knew nothing about shoe companies paying players. Rick Pitino was absolutely shocked and could not believe his good fortune that a 5 star player just showed up on signing day at Louisville to commit without ever visiting. It’s amazing the great things that can just happen with no effort and no knowledge

The only problem is the NCAA is spineless and could care less about enforcing the rules to ensure a level playing field. Their handling of NC should tell you all you need to know.

I am curious. Was the rule in place when Cam Newton's daddy got a big payoff to get him to play for Auburn? If they punish the player, they also should punish the school. Any games De Sousa played in should have been removed as wins for Kansas IMO.

They will get KU eventually. The FBI win in court is the precursor to trouble for KU & others. I believe Self may jump to the NBA in the not too distant future.
