KU vs Clones

Man, ISU beats Kansas and the first thing these guys do is run over to this board to find justification. MSU beat Louisville, Providence, Maryland, and Kansas this year, they are good. Vue, one could also argue that the rankings fixed themselves this week, as a team like Iowa was rated too low with all their good wins, before the week even started.

Is Nebraska good? They beat MSU at MSU.

Okie State is 10-9, with losses to George Mason, Missouri State and Tulsa
Dayton is just outside the top 25 this week
ISU played very well, especially in 2nd half. But, boy, KU really is overrated. They play OK defense, but their offense is a cluster other than their 50 year old forward-sloppy passing, uncontested turnovers, and no one who can consistently hit an outside shot.

I love how Iowa gets their first NCAA win in 15 years last year, and now they are talking smack about exits in March all of a sudden. Hilarious.

Yes, just about as funny as ISU fans giving us grief for losing a Rose Bowl game.

Probably about as much as anyone even vaguely familiar with you, kinked, now reading from an isu fan anything regarding 'exits in March'... does UAB ring any bells for you?

Or, would you prefer to now revisit all of the 'final four' hype toward isu that we were all hearing and reading about recently? That one sure disappeared suddenly.

Kansas didn't look too bad. ISU just really played well the second half on both ends of the court. KU played much better than they did in their first two road losses. I think them and MSU started the season out so well and each kind of lost their way for different reasons. KU's biggest reason is their guys not playing within the offense and defense and trying to figure out the right rotation. MSU appears to be getting back to where they were and KU is on there way.
Oh and KU does have shooters so I don't know what people are talking about. Greene, Selden, Graham, Mason and Ellis can all shoot from the outside. They are one of the best 3 point shooting teams in the country. Their problem has been their play inside.

Iowa has been to the NCAA tournament 24 times. ISU has been there 17. But ya, you're the basketball school.

If someone says they are a basketball school it doesn't mean that they have a better history of basketball compared to certain teams it means they care more about, and are better at basketball than other sports at their school.

ISU doesn't have much basketball history but they have been ranked 48 straight weeks which is very impressive. I think if people say ISU is a basketball school they are living more in the now than anything else. I personally don't care what ISU basketball did before I was born and I'm just enjoying the ride now

Perhaps inadvertently, but you have answered the obvious about why isu may be thought to be a basketball school.

When was the last time isu was ranked in football?

ISU being horrible in football is also a large reason why people say ISU is a basketball school. ISU's consistently being a top 25 team the last few years is another reason though. After Duke falls out of the rankings next week ISU will have the third longest streak of being ranked Kansas and Arizona.

isu is no Duke.

Obviously. Like I said, ISU is not a basketball school if you look at program history

Mr. Pollard would disagree with you. As a matter of fact, I believe he is on record as having stated that isu is a basketball school.

They have been ranked 48 straight weeks and have the most top 25 wins of any team in the country the last 3 years. If you're living in the now I have no problem calling ISU a basketball school.

Good for you... it is official. isu is a basketball school that just happened to lose in the first round of the NCAA last March (even having been ranked however many weeks in a row and having the most top 25 wins, etc.)

BTW - do you include Iowa, 2015-16 in those top 25 wins?

I don't think so. It was on Sportscenter but I'm guessing it is ranked at the time you play them.

Do you have any idea what "basketball school" means?

If KU is one of the best 3 point shooting teams, I'd hate to see the worst. They don't have a single reliable guy to go to other than Ellis inside.

Kansas is 5th in the country for 3pt FG%. They are shooting 43% from deep this year

Whats that? I cant hear you from the top 3
Of course the polls mean absolutely nothing when selections are made by the committee. Strength is what matters, and ISU would be a 2 seed if chosen right now. It does not matter that ISU was ranked #2 in the country at one time. I love putting a mirror up to the statements made here about ISU. Many of the comments by hawk fans show very little thought when made about ISU.

And so many made by Clown fans show no thought at all.

Since I'm living in the now, I only consider teams in the top five right now basketball schools.

You obviously have never watched them play.

Selden .467%
Mason .390
Graham .427
Ellis .455
Greene .541
Team shoots .430 for 5th in the country.

Fact is that you do not know where exactly isu or any other team would be seeded.

Please tell me what a 'basketball school' is in your world.

A school/fanbase that cares more about basketball than n football. Most of the time the school is better in basketball than they are in football. Some teams are good in basketball but are clearly still football schools like OU or some of the other southern schools. Look at Florida. They won championships under Donovan but they are still a football school. How many sweet sixteens ISU has, has nothing to do with whether they are a basketball school.

You are correct. That is the point of the post.

Quite the contrary. You are wrong. You stated "Strength is what matters, and isu would be a 2 seed if chosen right now." That is what I objected to when I responded that neither you nor anyone else can know for certain where a team will/would be seeded at this time.

That is the point. You want to believe you know something that you do not know.

Without belaboring this too much, there is a very important distinction that you are forgetting/omitting here. Your examples of OU and Florida are not really pertinent to this discussion because they are a) football schools first and foremost as you mention and b) are able to be something other than just a 'basketball school'. Our friends in Ames do not have that same luxury.

Very simply stated, isu is thought to be a 'basketball school' as much out of necessity as anything. They certainly can make no claim to be a football school and on the men's side at least, they have declined precipitously in wrestling so that leaves basketball. The questions and comments I posed earlier point to how elastic some of the isu faithful can be in applying that term to different teams. The recent success isu has had on the hardwood is impressive, but not exceptional by any means. Certain isu fans want to point out that Iowa has only won one NCAA game in the past however many years... that is still one more win in the tourney than isu had in March of this year. Iowa has as good or even better history in the tourney than does isu, but I do not hear a lot of Hawkeye fans proclaiming Iowa to be a 'basketball school'.

In general, the administration at isu worries excessively about what anyone else thinks about them. They would be much better served to just go out and focus on what they are able to accomplish.

My point is that anyone can make claims about rankings, seeds, etc., but no-one really knows anything.
