Late TD

Seems to me KF wasn't too fond of the decision either, otherwise we probably aren't running hurry up no huddle with the game clearly out of reach, and caking a time out with :17 left. I could be reading the situation wrong, but that was my take.

Yeah, I thought it was a little bush league, and it's something Kirk never would have done. I thought Shaw was above that kind of thing. He seems like a good guy based on what I've seen. That said, we did attempt an onside kick and, to our credit, were still competing even though the outcome was no longer in doubt. In that context, I don't think it was a totally classless move to throw the bomb there. That said, I would have had more respect for Shaw if he'd just run the clock there.

Yes, it's our defense's job to stop them, but no, there was absolutely no need to be throwing long, up 22, with 2:30 left. A few dive plays and the game's pretty much over. I doubt Kirk cared for it much, although he has too much class to say anything about it publicly.
Kirk maybe wouldn't do it. Hayden not only would, but did on numerous occasions.

If you don't wanna play 60 minutes, forfeit. This BS about it's not nice to keep playing to the end is bogus.

Iowa kept its starters in on offense when Stanford was using defensive backups. Why the hell didn't KF put Wiegers in there at QB the last five or six minutes of the game? I think that's a far more legit concern than Stanford's late TD pass. Besides, if they had wanted to, Stanford could have scored 60 or 70 points. Worry about Iowa being in such an embarrassing position rather than what the other guys are doing.

Really would have been nice if Kirk would have let Canzari in at the end to see if he could have gotten to a 1000 yards rushing. Think he ended with 981 yards.

I won't disagree about Weigers, but show me a team who doesn't leave their offensive starters in (Stanford included in this game even). There is an ethical way to do things, and Shaw decided against it.

God, you are just one huge, ginormous pussy, and represent every single thing that is wrong with America these days.

Trump is right.

IMO, this is BS. We're even.

I'm glad the final score better reflected the disparity of talent and preparedness between the two teams.

Well said !!!!!! Iowa kept trying to score points so why shouldn't Stanford. Iowa calling timeouts at the end was BS.

It's not just that it is classless to Iowa. There's absolutely no question that it is . But our fans and players are strong enough, I'm sure none of them really give a crap.

But it's also classless and disrespectful to your own team. I wonder how Keller Chryst (sophomore backup QB) feels that he couldn't even get in for one snap simply because the head coach and his ego wants to turn a 3 TD game into a 4 TD game with 2:00 left. Been doing everything he's been asked, showing up at every practice, early AM lifting sessions etc for 2-3 years, and the coach can't even get him mopup time in a blowout. Gee thanks, coach.

Moroever, Hogan's a 3-year starter and gone next year, and Chryst who I presume is their next in line has thrown a whopping 9 passes this year. No other QB on the team has thrown one. Why would you not want to start getting him field experience, especially on a big stage.

Finally, there's the injury angle. I can understand the desire to get Rose bowl records for McCaffery , but keeping him in with 2:00 left and throwing downfield passes to him in the end zone in a complete blowout? Why? What if McCaffery takes an awkward hit, or hell even cuts wrong and sustains a serious injury? Placing the kids $100million+ career and Stanford's 2016 season in jeopardy because of your ego?

It's not just that this was bush league. It was. It was just flat out moronic on his part.

Sorry dude I checked the Stanford board not one thread about the HC making his team look bad and risking the health of players. Our fans are the only ones crying about it.

Isn't it moronic that Captain Kirk kept Beathard in the game, even though it was out of reach. He was getting killed all game. Would've been something if took that one hit in garbage time that put next season at risk, just to get a moral victory of making it look close. This is big boy football. Style points count in college football when it comes to ranking, playoffs, recruiting, etc. Time for Iowa to step up it's game or get left in the dust.

Has anyone heard if the Stanford coach said anything about throwing for a TD with 2 minutes left and a big lead?

So Iowa could keep trying to score and have their fans say "if we had played like this te entire game it would have been different".

We all know damn well plenty of fans would have thought it true.

Lame thing to get butt hurt over.

KF decided to show little class with that on side kick after it was obvious Shaw put on the breaks IN THE 1st HALF !! ( punting on 4th and short from midfield and again later in the game , when they just had to give it to #5 ). After the bush onside , Shaw said ' OK , you want to play that way TOUCHDOWN ! ' The late Iowa timeouts were weak too. But whatever game was over after the 1st quarter anyway. Complete mismatch in coaching , talent, toughness, and skill.

Do you coach? At any level?

Tailgate Tom and Guido reflect my sentiments exactly. Stanford coach is a dick. Will be interested to see how they do next year with new o-line, QB, and several key loses on defense. Also, while McCaffrey is a special talent, everybody will be keying on him, so may be a different story next season for the Cardinal and their wacky band of misfits. :)

Which is, of course, relevant to the 2016 Rose Bowl. Good job.

Do you really think Iowa wasn't keying on McCaffrey yesterday ? Did it make a difference ? Stop crying about the score 1 or 100 it doesn't matter.

Again, not crying about the score...not sure where you got that. I'm talking about his ethics, or lack there of, rather.

I assume that's your hero in life, as you come across like you're a 12 year old girl.
I guess I'm not sure why you're still being allowed to post...
God, you are just one huge, ginormous pussy
Says the female genitalia that cries like a little bitch when the other team tries to score at the end of a football game.

Seems like some obvious board rules being broken here. Not surprised though. Much like 3rd grader, when you truly have nothing constructive to add, you resort to name calling. That's okay though, I wasn't expecting much from you.

Edit: EvilMonkey is right, I'm not sure why I entertained DaCoach...seems like I could have seen that a mile away.

Do you honestly not see the difference in throwing it deep when the game is over, and running out the final 2:00? Was Iowa going to score 22 points in 2:00? Hell was Iowa going to even STOP your ground game then? You're right, Shaw had every right to do what he did. But again, this gets back to the ethical side of coaching.

I LOVE watching Stanford. Tough, physical, playmakers, the rightful Heisman winner. My opinion on that won't change. However I'm disappointed in Shaw and how he handled the end.
