Spot on. I'd pointed out the disinformation game the GOP was playing followed the exact same script a month ago. This one will catch up to them much more quickly - but what is astounding is that it actually worked early on, and despite most of them knowing what the result would be (thousands more deaths in the coming weeks) they did it anyway.
The thing is, when they finally realized they couldn't just completely ignore it anymore they came out with a number they thought there was no way we would reach, 100k deaths, so they could declare a win when the numbers didn't reach that. Given how our death rate is still growing exponentially and our new cases have not decreased significantly as a nation, we'll likely hit 100k before the fall. Good luck campaigning on that. Plus, with states opening back up any hope of slowing the growth of this makes staying under 100k even less likely.
Their best way of staying below 100k at this point is to use their chief strategy for always underreporting things. Just fudge the numbers. By not testing, then those numbers aren't reported.
