Kienholz originally committed to Kaleb DeBoer, Washington, now HC at Alabama. Wild guess he reconnects with DeBoer. DeBoer was born in SD, got his coaching start there, and won multiple NCs at USF.

Keinholz is a dual threat QB on steroids, has a good arm for sure but at Pierre HS scrambled/ran his team to state championship. Would fit well in a DeBoer offense.

I wonder what he’s referring to? Cuz he shouldn’t know anything about any other teams players. Is someone talking about a current player entering? Why would he have any idea what Lincoln kienholz is gonna do? Other than him telling his friends and family he might be leaving OSU no other school should have any idea what he’s doing. Especially the NIL people.

Well he ain't beating out the starter at Bama, but maybe he is only there 1 more year.

Like the dudes who cut on kids that bust their rear ends working out all year and then themselves look like that!

Dude should have done an avatar.
Thank you. That is a huge pet peeve of mine. If you are going to talk the talk, walk the walk first.

This what I said about being one of our selling point for 4 star players on offense. You can go to a school full of other 4 and 5 star players and ride the pine, or if you are any good, you can come here and pretty much start right away or year 2 anyway. On the flip side, if you are on defense, look, Iowa puts people in the NFL at a clip right up there with the "elite" schools and I hate to tell people this, but being offensively stunted, most of the guys we put into the next level are from our defense. I do not know, but I bet if you just looked at defensive players drafted, Iowa has to be one of the top in the nation. So the bar is high, but if you make it, you are going to more then likely get more then one look from the scouts. So as far as that goes the "elite" schools do not have anything on Iowa and Iowa is an elite defensive school.

Watch his interview on WUW.

I am paraphrasing a bit here - here is some of what he said:

"Tyler Barnes job is not just recruiting HS & College kids, he has to recruit his own team. I will tell you that during the season, while we are playing, these other programs are reaching out to our players and offering them money to come to leave to go to their school. And once the season's over then the agents are all up and the other thing too is you know you'll get call from an agent and agent will say you know how much you going to pay so and so next year uh because this other school here is offering X and I don't know if that is garbage or not. And then of course I've go to find out well how bad do we want to keep this kid or do we really need him to stay. What's really bad is some of these agents are getting 20%. Whats even worse is your going to get the same money out of the Swarm whether you have an agent or not, so these kids are getting ripped off."

He also said early on in the interview that KP's agent was also the agent for Aaron Rodgers and that his agent told him he had no advance notice about KP switching schools.

This whole NIL situation is such a joke.
Just killing college athletics.

they want to have NIL then Schools should just pay NIL based on what the Kid is worth to the Team and make them sign a contract like NFL that locks Them in for x years with discipline outs for the school and coaching change outs for the Kid and remove the Scholarship from play so schools use those assets toward NIL, the School just offers lodging food medical and trainers . Kids are not even Students any longer for the most part except on paper , it is a farce .

Iowa should harvest in the spring when 4 or 5 star dudes get told they aren't the starters and they hit the exits at these other schools. Realistically you got one shot to make your way to the starting role at those schools and if you don't and you want to play you gotta look elsewhere.
I think that’s what kirks been thinking with the portal. Whenever he is asked about player he always says there will be guys in the spring. To me it’s perfect. You get the non starters at positions you can’t recruit or haven’t developed well.
They get a prime opportunity to start and you still can spend you time working on developing the positions you are great with. Ideally we’d get 4*s and develop all positions well, but that won’t happen anytime soon.
Get the spring transfers Kirk!

If true he had to live by himself and sort of stayed away this came as no shock to anyone inside.

And the schools these kids are coming from aren't getting coddled. No one on the Ohio State roster is getting treated with kid gloves. So should expect to work here too.

What's better than beating the elites! Get enough mindsets changed to think that way and it can happen.

Two years have passed since student-athlete NIL became legal. The US Supreme Court issued its opinion in NCAA v. Alston in June, 2022. Since then, fan interest has markedly increased.

Iowa football is thriving. In 2022, Iowa sold out all seven home football games - it was the first season sell-out at Kinnick Stadium since 2011. In 2023, every Hawkeye home football game was again sold out. Rare back to back season sellouts following the introduction of NIL.

Further, The Big Ten saw a 3.2% increase in football attendance last year. The average attendance (approx 67,000) was the highest average since 2013. The conference is expanding.

Attendance for all of college football increased slightly in 2023 (average of approx 42k), the highest since 2017 and, together with total attendance for the 2022 football season, the first increase across consecutive seasons since 2008.

More people are watching. 2023 TV ratings for college football games are up 15% year-over-year, surpassing 2015 for the most watched season ever.

oh let me rephrase:
NIL will kill fringe teams like Iowa in the long run as the blue bloods with the deep wallets keep buying the best players.
Better?

It sure doesn't hurt that the Blue Blood Programs like Michigan, USC, Bama, Georgia, Ohio State, Penn State, Florida State, and more were all vying for conference championships and playoff spots for almost the entire season. I can promise you that if Iowa, Ole Miss, Texas Tech, and BYU were the final four playoff teams ratings wouldn't be up.

People love march madness upsets (so they say), but TV ratings are always higher when Duke, NC, Arizona, Kentucky etc are in the Final Four.

If NIL was filling it's original stated purpose, to let players make some money off their jersey sales, autograph sessions, etc. Things might be just fine. Instead what we have is college free-agency and the schools with the deepest pockets and collectives with the thickest wallets are going to be able to assemble the best talent not only out of high school, but will be able to poach talent from non-contenders. It might take some more time, but the talent gap between the haves and the have nots is only going to widen.

Expect this year where iowa broke viewership numbers three straight games…

I think that remains to be seen. It may wane a bit with all this flipping. At least in WBB they have to wait till age 22 to go to the W so you do not have girls leaving school early. There may be some fallout if the NIL continues to go on like the wild west. Ask yourself if CC was Iowa her fresh year, then flipped each year after that, would she have the same following? Some for sure, but I don't think at the level she is now. I think the best will be make them employees of the school, figure out the longevity and education part and make them sign contracts for a minimum of 1 year. Cut out the agents as much as possible as they are probably pouring fuel on this fire, they are just out to make a buck and do not care about the kids or the schools.

Where exactly do you think Iowa sits in the grand scheme of things? I’d suggest NIL has shown that Iowa is what they have always been. A second tier program.

Can you point to a time when what you’re concerned about wasn’t the case?

Yes agree in the short term. In the long run, NIL will be uniformly regulated, at the federal level or by association, to more level the playing field.

There are seven different NIL bills in Congress which at least attempt to regulate collectives and that is a necessary step in terms of transparency.

Either the NCAA (or a new association of major conferences) will form to set rules around NIL. All the major conference commissioners have voiced a need for a uniform regulatory structure. It’s frustrating but change willl happen

Agreed it needs to be regulated. If that happens then yes, Iowa will be fine.
I simply talking about the current status.
Hopefully they recognize that it needs to be policed.

So, back to the OP.

Any realistic chance of landing this kid or someone comparable?

I only ask since Deacon Hill is currently getting first team reps.
I’d imagine they do attempt to bring in a transfer QB. If they don’t I question Lester’s abilities. Curious to see what players transfer out this spring. That’s also part of the issue. We will know next week.
Lincoln kienholz is just a guess at this point since he is likely transferring out and from SD.
Some back-up somewhere will want to be the starter similar to what Cade did when he transferred. I imagine we get a guy on that level(or at least the level he seemed to be at that time) or a sophomore/junior that is behind a younger QB in depth chart… kids want to play and QB at iowa is a good option for PT if you are any good
