My grandfather had to quit school after 6th grade to work on the farm to help support the family in rural North Dakota. He drove a tank on three continents during WWII with the 2nd Armored Division (known as Hell on Wheels) and was third wave at Omaha. He also worked with the WPA on several jobs. My other grandfather was 3rd Infantry in Korea and was a lifelong farmer after returning home to Minnesota.
