"We're not playing yet, but Jackson looks like the guy that will be going,“ Ferentz said on Wednesday during his weekly radio show. ”He'll get the start. Confident that he'll do a great job. He stepped in, did a really nice job in our last ball game. And he’s got a good ability to throw the football, and he’s learning every day. So if he’s our guy, we’ll go with him and see what we can do.“

Not when you're talking college QB's. Can be huge variance in betting lines.

As for NFL, you would be correct
The average fan has no idea who Iowa’s qb 1 is. Why would they care if they are at qb4? Is there really that much drop off to perceive with the reputation Iowa’s offense has?

Fans influence betting lines, not the bookies.

Depends how much action/expected action the game carries.

The average fan doesn't bet tens of thousands of dollars on a ballgame

Forecast for college park on Saturday:
54 degrees
Dry
Winds that could gust to 35mph.

Stratton has a strong arm and he will need it in these winds.
But MD QB Edwards is a solid passer so maybe tough passing conditions could favor Iowa's running-centric offense?

Go Hawkeyes!

Playing Maryland is what favors Iowa.🙂

As we all know, when Iowa is involved, there is a fair chance nothing will make sense. That could be good, or it could be bad.

he can’t be worse than Cade!

That's statistically almost true. Cade is #110 of 119 major college QBs. So being worse than that is all but impossible.

And then having seen Stratton against UCLA, he clearly is a better runner (who isn't?) than Cade and has a far stronger, more accurate arm. If conditions allow (they say it might be pretty windy), and if Lester dials up the right plays, and if the line gives him half a chance, Stratton could put on a passing show Iowa fans haven't seen in a long, long time. Stratton has the physical talent. All he needs is opportunity. And that may arrive on Saturday.

agreed

nowhere to go but up (as long as he's not Deacon Hill level bad)

So the article didn't say much about Cade. Is he just not ready to go? Or, did Stratton beat him out?

If Cade is cleared to play and KF picked Stratton, doesn't that go against everything we think we know about KF?

I just listened to Leistikow and Dochterman talk about this. Doc said it was the strangest QB situation he has seen under Kirk. On Monday, Cade was announced as medically cleared and #1 on the depth chart, but has since seemed to disappear. They asked Kirk about the situation and he gave Kirk answers.

They think the big news will be if Cade travels to Maryland or not. They think not. Doc thinks Cade has taken his last snap as a Hawkeye.

Did they elaborate? Due to injuries and tired of putting his body through this? Maybe he just doesn't have any gas in the tank anymore? Maybe he's physically cleared but not mentally?

Saving himself for the draft (snicker).

Then maybe we are down to 1 QB again?

Based on what I've heard, Cade's practice on Monday was not good. Like awful. It was bad enough that the offensive staff regrouped afterwards and decided to give the nod to Stratton.

I'm wondering if that pissed off Cade enough that he's like, "I'm Audi 5000 fellas". I'm pretty much guessing on that last part, but that Monday practice was abysmal, that much I did hear.

Cade is taking his NIL $$$ and going home it sounds like. Probably physically and mentally gassed at this point. And Iowa needs to see what it has at QB position before portal opens, all makes sense to give Jackson a 2 game audition here. Lester loves his arm talent and he does have some wiggle to his game like CJB.

The "Cade gives the best chance to win" argument rings hollow. Always has. Now if it's true that he is no longer a practice superstar, which is a hallmark of the many KF years of bad QBs, then there really is nothing left to support putting him out there unless he is the absolute last available QB on the roster who could take a snap.
And contrary as to how some want to portray giving Stratton the nod as throwing in the towel this year to play for next year, that holds no water either. I don't think Stratton is a great QB. As with Sullivan, he may not even be a good QB compared to his P4 peers. But he is most definitely a better option than the multi surgerized, often injured and immobile former chosen one as KF's starter.

just now went and watched the last 4+ minutes of the ucla game. I was out of town and missed it due to things beyond my control happening with hotels in houston but that's a different story... anywho I went and and watched saw him doing a drive, down 20-17, and he throws a couple into the dirt, and 4th down punt. he sucked from what I could tell. ucla wins. but why do coaches say they saw "good things" with him? maybe he's better than that, but when iowa needed it- it just wasn't there. I am certainly willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. but what choice do I have anyways? sounds like most of the QB's are hurt.

he might have given iowa the best chance when he was wearing the maze and blue, not so much after that

Nothing was thrown into the dirt. On that last series he threw 2 catchable balls that were both dropped.

If you want some affirmation about Stratton read Lester's comments about the way he likes the way he delivers the ball. You mentioned the bad pass that ended the last drive he also led us to a touchdown the drive before. I see this as a chance to give a talented young QB an opportunity to gain some valuable in game experience.

sorry guys...but I now have no faith in the Captain putting anyone out there until we are down so far that it's impossible to catch up, He does this to show he's in charge. Really too bad.
