Los Angeles On Fire

Probably should have raked their forestland
Certainly wouldn’t have hurt. Worked superbly against wild fires in Louisiana.

Very sad to see. Obviously, I hope for the best for all in harm’s way. If there’s any “hopeful” news on the response side of this fire, it’s that wildland fire crews from across the nation should be available in high numbers due to it being wintertime. So should air units.

Is there methods to reduce the risk?

Clear up brush? Trim trees?

Or just “live with it”

Of course. Trimming, clearing and removing fuel in fire risk zones is winter work for wildland firefighters. There’s only so much that can be done though by a workforce that’s understaffed and underfunded nationwide. Wildfires today are more abundant and occur more frequently than they ever have. This crisis is magnified by growing cities and/or towns in high risk areas where more and more residences are being constructed in timber environments.

My wife did her Masters Thesis on fire modeling of Topanga Canyon which runs right thru this area. She walked the canyon and mapped veg then ran it thru the standard fire models.
The results were...what you see here. A spark during a high wind event will turn very ugly very quickly and there's only really one road in and out of the area.
The people in the area saw her results....and asked that she didn't publish it. Rich people don't like bad news.
Were there any recommendations for mitigation and if so were they acted on? No politics please, genuinely curious what if anything can be done in areas like these.
We rent a house in Santa Monica every couple years, sounds like the owners had to evacuate but the house is safe for now.

The conditions for this event were extreme. Extreme winds with gusts up to 80mph + extremely low humidity on top of an already parched landscape.

Even Denver/Front Range and Gatlinburg TN ran into big events with extreme conditions. Don't know how much could be done to mitigate an event like this.

Oh muh gawwwd, this Cali libtwattard doesn't know why this is happening to her!! >

That’s really sad…those residents of California didn’t deserve this.

Still, elections have consequences, said some marxist long ago.....
Do you ever show empathy for anyone? What a warped mind to post this. Do you think everyone effected is a Marxist libtard? You seem like a deeply miserable person.

The wind is blowing 100mph and the area has received almost no rain this winter.
You can, an do, remove risk my managing landscaping but in an event like this nothing matters. Embers are being blown miles thru the air and houses are made of wood in the us.

Plenty of water, big guy, but you keep carrying it for the left >

I have you on ignore because you’re a clueless moron, but this post is beyond stupid.
The bay delta project wouldn’t be built for more than a decade even if it was approved. And even if it were it would do nothing for this event as primarily about farm irrigation.

It's been approved.....moron! lol >

SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY - A project to move water from the Sacramento region down to Southern California was recently approved by the California Department of Water Resources (DWR). The $16 billion Delta Conveyance Project is causing major controversy around environmental concerns.

Wow, thanks for telling me all about a project I’ve worked on. I’m sure you and Elon know more about it than I do, was only my job for a few years.
It totally would have gone straight to fire hydrants if not for those meddling libs!

Yet, you didn't even know it's been approved, FucWit! 🤡

Gavin Newsom’s California:

“Let me get this straight.

• California is burning.

• All of its fire chiefs were selected based on their LGBTQ status.

• Gavin Newsom spent all of the state’s fire resources on illegals.

• He hasn’t called in the National Guard.

• The LA Mayor is nowhere to be found.

Gross incompetence.

Gross mismanagement.”
