Loss at home to a 10 loss team…AWESOME!!!

Same ‘ol garbage every year. Again, I’m so glad we were so darn aggressive in the transfer portal to shore up needs.
You and Chis 💣 should get together for a beer.

At this point, it’s hard to have much of a reaction to these types of expected losses. Iowa under Fran is Charmin soft. It’s really that simple. Garza was one of those rare exceptions, but otherwise a lot of wimpy defense and limited athleticism in the Fran era.

People can say what they want about Dr. Tom, but no one ever questioned his teams’ toughness. I think that’s my biggest complaint about Fran. Sure, you’re not going to bring in a lot of top notch talent to Iowa, but at least put a team out there that consistently plays with grit and toughness. Jeezus.

If a team wants to make the NCAA tourney, they need to play better defense at home, and not give the ball away on careless ball handling, and not miss 3 dunks.

These guys need to play as hard for 40 minutes as they did for the final 2. Keegan cramping was a big problem, but he didn't have a good defensive game. Kris seemed to be picked on by refs.

Very poor loss. Just have to win at home down the stretch against an avg team

But I do not put it past these hawks stealing one they should lose

Is there a bracket out there that has Iowa out of the tournament?
I have has much faith in those brackets at this point as a lot of the political polls.

We have zero, I repeat, zero Quad 1 wins coupled with an atrocious strength of schedule. Even our B1G schedule has been relatively soft.

We're not dancing this year. It is, what it is. Not a huge deal.

The intensity and focus took too much time off. That is on the coaching. KM not being able to hit FT's is baffling. I didn't like setting up KM for that last 3 either with him having much leg problems. I know he is a money player; but, not when cramping.

The usual joy boys will somehow rationalize that IA still has a reasonable chance at the Big Dance. This is an NIT team and has been for sometime.

We just don't have the pieces.
The thing is Iowa should have the pieces consider they have arguably the BIG10 POY again. Fran can’t stick to a rotation that can maybe get cohesive. He constantly has different and even new lineups in the court. It’s bizarre but that his style and he’s not changing.

I’d like to see some more of big Josh when other teams start scoring at Will inside. He more than held his own and his size makes it much harder to score inside for opponents. Rebraca tries hard but he’s 6’8 and guys shoot over him.

That’s pretty much the story of the game. After two good games we let our foot off the gas on D and that’s why we lost. Hopefully they learn.

In this era, you need outstanding guard play. That has always held Fran’s teams back.

Agreed, I'm actually very optimistic about Bowen next year I will say. I know that's only one piece. Sandfort at the 2-3 spot has a lot of potential offensively. He needs to pick up it up on the defensive side IMO.

unfortunately, it might be too late for lessons learned

we now probably need to go to OSU or Michigan and steal a win

You really do take your job as a troll seriously. Bet you a Benjamin that we make the NCAAs.
I might be willing to take that bet.

Of their six remaining games, three are on the road against OSU, Illinois, and Michigan. They play Sparty at home.

Most likely, Iowa finishes out 2-4. That puts them at 19 wins. Maybe they win one game in the BTT to get to 20 wins. That would put them at 20-13. With the laughably soft non-conference schedule, I see them on the bubble at best.

We have two future NBA players and had two NBA players last year. We have pieces, we just try to use other pieces that don't fit.
This is a simple but very accurate observation. Fran gives certain players 3-5 minutes and then yanks them. One game you might play 25 minutes, the next 6 minutes. It’s a hodgepodge of players and Keegan. Hard to know your role on a team with how he manages his rotations.

“Might”? It was actually extended to Fuchs because he’s a troll, but I’ll give you the same opportunity.

That's on Fran and inexcusable this far into his tenure.
I got torched for calling him a LOSER after he got extended....he will and always will be a MEDIOCRE coach at best....Iowa Basketball hasn't been a blip on my radar for 30 years....I refuse to let it bother me....its a joke!!!

When has solid guard play not been the key to success at the college level?

That why failing to recruit upper level guards continues to be the major failure of the Fran era.
You could argue every position is important, and guard play is no exception. In truth, you make a valid point. College basketball evolved a long time ago from the slower, more post-oriented play to what it is today.

Missed free throws, careless turn overs , poor shot selection and spectating will not win many games.

Bolded is my biggest take from the Fran era. As much as he likes to come off as a tough guy and yell and scream, his teams are the softest of soft I have ever witnessed. Mentally fragile just like their coach.

It was an odd game. If Murray hits his ft and the three missed dunks go down, Hawks win. These games happen to every team. Let’s get the one in Ann Arbor.

Have you ever seen a pig fly? Iowa has as much chance to win in Ann Arbor as seeing pigs fly. Not going to happen, Iowa will get rolled....
Even with Iowa's best team ever under Fran, you remember what happened in Ann Arbor last year? How'd that turn out?

This is all very true, but someone posted a tweet where Michigan at one point had scored on 15 of 20 possessions in the second half. Get a few stops on the defensive end of the court, Hawks win. In other words, there are a lot of things Iowa could have done better to win this game. The missed dunks and FT's seemed to be kind of fluky, but defense continues to be an issue on a consistent basis.

Michigan played well on offense. Some of that was Iowa's D and some of it was just one of those games.
