Luka Garza Now Rivals 4 ****

I liked the video that broke down the 3 plays. This kid is true 5 that has a nice jump hook, understands
post position and calls for the ball and finishes with authority. Can't wait to see him in a Iowa uniform!

He looks like he could be a shot blocker with those long arms. Does anyone know his wingspread?

Luka is a warrior. He is an intelligent player coming from a family of players. And he can draw fouls.

This is a big plus. His background and smarts will get him on the court early. He's bringing a jump hook!! Man, I wish more big players would use that weapon. Tim Duncan made a long and lucrative professional living with that shot.

Every time I watch a video of this dude I'm left thinking ... meh. He likes to shoot the three. Great. He looks slow and a little clumsy for B1G ball. I hope he proves me wrong and turns out to be the next Kevin McHale.

Would you settle for the next Ethan Happ?

I like his hustle, I love his shot, great looking form.
Awesome to see a Hawkeye commit GAIN a star instead of losing a star

At least he has long arms to compensate. I loved Woodbury but his 6'9" wingspan and long neck really made him play much much shorter.

I didn't think you would go there.

Woody had heart of a warrior and very heady and was asset on defense. Unfortunately, T-rex arms and the jumping ability of a root vegetable. I like Garza's offensive skills though...that also sets him apart from woody. I'm optimistic he can play positional defense and give us some of woody's defense.

Garza is gonna be a good one. I think he could come in and play right away. The kid is a solid player and isn't he 6-11?? Nice to have big body again!

I saw Kriener in person 4 different times over the last two years he was in high school and was never impressed. From his limited playing time so far and tonight against Purdue, he has proven he can at least compete at this level. I'm gonna give Fran and the rest of the college BB scouts the benefit of the doubt and say he's gonna be an early contributor for the Hawks.

Man how much fun will this team be to watch next couple years but especially in 2 years when freshman now are jrs and Baer, Wagner, willliams and Ellington are seniors. That will be quite a team with Garza, Connor and an elite freshman talent in Joe weiskamp.

We will have a lot of fouls to give in the next few years in the middle. We should contest every lay up and make 'em earn it at the line.

Fresh Pemsl, Wagner, Cook, Nunge, Garza, Kriener, and Uhl should draw a lot of fouls against opposing bigs and leave 'em gassed in the 4thquarter.

As tough as spreading around pt, it's only going to get even tougher, but still better to have too much talent than too little.
This team is growing this year but I can see every game being a battle in the B1G. I'll take our chances though that we still get to 12 wins this year. If we don't it was a minor setback . The more I see of this team though it feels like the most minor a setback as you can possibly get, and only record wise. Theses guys are so fun to watch as they grow. Wow

Think he has some real skill for a big guy but is going to be a little limited athletically imo. Hope he doesnt become the HR whipping boy like Woody did.

I wish this was in the Pro's where we could trade one of these players for a high level backup point guard.

Woody clone

If this is a dig at Garza, epic fail! What was your feeling about Kreiner or Bohannon coming in? Both of these kids have shown they belong, Bohannon might be freshman of the year in the BIG and MVP for the Hawks. My guess is that Garza has a really good career as a Hawk.

Not to worry, the lemon suckers are drooling for the chance to go after Conner. Especially, I'm sure, since the last local kid, J Bo, didn't pan down to their hopes. What concerns me, is even after a win against Purdue one showed up big time. These haters are growing bold. We've now reached the level of not winning good enough.

I don't think that will happen. He's more athletic and certainly better skilled on the offensive end. You can get away with playing below the rim if you can put the ball in the basket

I'd settle for the next Acie Earl.. He also was kinda slow & awkward but still effective..

Woody was praised for his defense, but I think even his staunchest supporters would admit he missed a lot of layups and didn't develop any post moves. This guy will be well liked if he shows a more on offense while playing similar defensive role.

Yeah, Woody was good defensively and I think he had a streak of attitude in him, which I always liked. He just didn't develop much offensively and never seemed to have the physical strength to be strong at the rim. I suspect that resulted in a lot of those missed bunnies.

Really need to find a big time playmaking guard and we could be extremely good. I like Bohannon but would love to be able to move him off the ball more. Get that and we're going to be really well positioned for the next few years.

He isn't the next Happ. Garza can shoot it somewhat, Ethan can't. Ethan is pretty ridiculous down low w/ his footwork and has vice-grip hands. I don't see that w/ Garza. Happ is a much better athlete than Garza, can run the floor with the ball and is a decent defender who leads the team in steals. I don't think Garza is anything like Happ. Almost the exact opposite..

You make some good points. But as to being the exact opposite I respectfully disagree and would only use this line as my point, "can run the floor with the ball", I don't care. We're talking about post players and 90% of their games under the basket are about good footwork, smart moves, and scoring inside below the rim.

Garza does look to have a better stretch game though, I'll give you that for a difference.

Personally, I place far less stock in the number of stars assigned to a player by a recruiting service compared to the player's offer list. Really great that Fran & his staff prevailed over Georgetown (local), Indiana, Notre Dame & Louisville in their recruitment of Garza.
