Luke Getsy

as a Bears fan…I really, really hope this rumor is not true.

If it is I would have preferred he stuck with the Bears rather than come to Kinnick….at least I would have some hope for Iowa if he wasn’t calling the plays…
What’s your opinion of the Bears O line and does the OC get to sign the O line he wants?

I look at the Bears and its ownership issues as much as anything. Just look around at other franchises that languish year after year. Mostly ownership problems.

Either of these guys have any Joe Moore or Chuck Noll connection?
Weren't you the one yelling at everyone that KF is solely making this hire and that BG has nothing to do with it when the candidate names were good and plentiful but now that it's taken laughably long and rumors swirling about candidates turning it down (i.e. Chryst, Philbin, potentially O'Brien) you're spinning it like it's BG fault? I swear you have to be a Ferentz.

Not sure anyone we bring in could get the Iowa offense into the 70s/80s with our skill position players

For 2024 i think best case is somewhere around where Brian had us when he first took over (with help of KOK) 85-100s

Not sure that’s good enough to beat the top 3-4 in conference, but it would destroy the rest

Oh don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of ownership problems with the Bears. And the line is not stellar (though better than it was…)

BUT this is also the guy that would make some of the most incredibly dumbfounding play calls I have ever seen. Tampa Bay game this season is a great example….backed up on our side of the field and he comes up with a few screen calls?

If we hire him, Hawk fans better get used to the screen.

He may be an improvement over Brian, but not by a lot…

Luke getsy and Kevin johns are rumored to be two guys interviewing this week. I wouldn’t bet on Getsy as he has a lengthy history in NFL and has interview with the raiders this week. Johns is my guess of the two, also interesting is last week the flight tracker had a private jet in Raleigh, which isn’t exactly Durham but close enough to add that fun speculation that maybe they already had a meeting? That’s me totally guessing and making assumptions out of nothing lol.

Two years NFL OC with subpar results.

Last NCAA job was for PJ Fleck.

I'm sure he'd love $1.25M from Iowa.
Not quite. He was on the other sideline for our last Outback Bowl (MSU OC/WR).

Still, only coached in college in one season of the past 10. I think if he were interested in coming back to college it would only be for HC position.

A lot of love for Kevin Johns here. I'm just curious - if he's so great, why didn't Elko bring him with him to aTm? Also, he seems to have had a lot of pass-happy offenses; not sure that would fly with KF.

Because he is not BF… would agree seems to pass more recently but historically he’s had some more balanced squads. Plays to teams strength maybe?
Elko brought someone he liked more, and Duke also brought someone he liked more. Sadly duke kept Zohn Burden the WR coach. He would have been a great pairing with johns.
While some would say iowa could do better, johns would be a great hire and could improve us tremendously.

Without knowing exactly what is going on with the OC interviews, does the fact that it's taking this long and the candidates originally mentioned are no longer in the conversation mean the job has been declined numerous times? If so, it seems reasonable the interviewees are being told they have offensive guidelines set by Kirk, and they aren't interested in being constrained by a guy who has proven his offensive prowess is lacking. Why else would an unemployed coach or a coach at lower levels decline a power 5 OC position at a school with great defense and special teams?

This' 100% my take on it, as well.

I wondered the same thing -- about Johns not following Elko to A&M. I poked around on the internet a bit, and didn't see much explanation. There seemed to be a few folks who were surprised Johns didn't come along, including some A&M writers who wrote about him (Johns) as a palatable option. It also sounded like Johns was looked upon as a candidate for the head job and Duke, before it went to Manny Diaz (although that can't be the reason he didn't follow Elko, as Diaz was hired in early December, and Elko hired his new OC -- Collin Klein -- in late December).

The best guess that I can come up with is that Klein, having coached at K-State for a few years, might know Texas better than Johns, who is more of a Midwest guy.

Getsy, 39, was the Bears offensive coordinator for two seasons. Under him, the Bears offense ranked 23rd in 2022 and 19th in 2023. He ultimately failed to develop quarterback Justin Fields and create a formidable offense for the Bears.

Not developing QB's fits right into KF's mantra... JFC.

Hey bro she says the process is going great. And I think it is dumb as hell people are sitting around fretting because we don't have an OC in place on January 24. STUPID!

Because their OL sucked beyond belief.

Getsy was blamed for bears lack of passing attack...not finding a passing scheme that fit fields skill set altho they improved the 2nd half of the season.

I saw today a stat that every team in the NFL has changed OC in the last 2 years cept for 49ers.

Nobody likes their OC anywhere in football it seems.
Not true as the vikings have not changed oc's in the past 2 years but like some teams the head guy koc is calling the plays. As for Iowa anthing has to be better that Brian F and the routes the wr's ran and the way he called plays after the scripted plays were done.

FWIW, it looks like Getsy was also the OC for Mississippi State in 2018 when Iowa played them in the Outback Bowl. (Iowa won, 27-22.)

?? Why not?
Because Bears fans over rate the talent on their team and want to have the QB run all the time. You'd think they would learn that usually does not end well as Fields has been hurt for a number of games every year he has been a regular. He did well with the Packers as their QB coach and passing game coordinator.

This is a hard job to fill. Head coach who’s the dean of college ball, just forcefully had to fire his son at oc that you’d be replacing, a coach that demands a certain offense and say in said offense, oh and as stubborn as an old mule. I’m not shocked guys aren’t beating down the door here.

You're blaming Getsy for the lack of development in Fields? Probably should have spent a little more time watching Bears games the last couple of years. There is a reason why they will be moving on from him. Great runner - horrible passing QB. He doesn't have the time to wait for his OSU athletes to get open anymore before he decides to let it go.

When was the last time the Bears, as a franchise, developed a QB?

If Fields can’t process and see what’s going on, I don’t know how much of the blame should go to Getsy. I don’t know if Getsy was telling Fields to hold onto the ball for too long. I highly doubt he was.

To get TWO top 2 rushing attacks in two years out of that OL is a miracle. Who was the last Bear OL to make it to the Pro Bowl? The guy clearly knows how to scheme up a running game.

As a lifelong Bears fan, I can give you a precise answer to your question.

A very fvcking long time ago.

If Getsy has the seal of approval from Rodgers and LaFluer that is good enough for me.

The funny thing about this take is that you do nothing on here but complain about complainers and give snarky sarcastic responses to ANYONE that sees it any other way than 100% the way you see it. You provide little to no substance here and a simple search of your history proves it. Yet you're supposed to be the voice of reason and the positive one? All you do is sit around and fret about what everyone thinks of poor 'ol Kirk. Also, it's a goddamn message board. What the hell do you want people to talk about, if not speculating...hell dreaming, of who the coordinator will be?
