MAGA - Some children of US Troops overseas will no longer get automatic American citizenship

Looks like a certain someone forgot to read the fine print. Or someone forgot to read it to him.

Kevin McCarthy, I'm looking at you!

Many of you didn’t even read the link and the tweet conveniently left off SOME relatively important aspects— like applying to parents who aren’t even citizens themselves.

Why would that matter? You’re treating troops stationed abroad differently than troops stationed in the United States.

It’s also a ridiculous slap in the face to people who are willing to die in service of our country.

.

Freaking dishonest LIBERALS:

U.S. service members and government employees who are not yet themselves U.S. citizens, while abroad, will not be considered as residing in the U.S., changing the way that they potentially receive citizenship. Children who are not U.S. citizens and are adopted by U.S. service members while living abroad will also no longer receive automatic citizenship by living with the U.S. citizen adopted parents.

John McCain good again

"This only affects children who were born outside the United States and were not U.S. citizens. This does NOT impact birthright citizenship. This policy update does not deny citizenship to the children of US government employees or members of the military born abroad," he added, though Task & Purpose did not report that citizenship would be denied. "This policy aligns USCIS' process with the Department of State's procedure, that's it."

I read the whole thing. It just aligns military procedure with state department procedure. Previously under military procedure these people would be considered to be living in the US, but I'd they applied for passports for the kids then they'd get denied because the State department didn't see it that way. Now both are aligned. Noncitizens will just have to apply for their children's citizenship before they're 18. No biggie really, and will a out some very confusing (and frustrating) passport deniles.

Critics will say 'but they could be denied.' they wont, and until they are, this is a nonstory.

They have to apply for citizenship.

You don't have to apply if you already have it. So they don't have it.

If you have to apply, that means you can be denied. So they won't necessarily get it.

Now reread what Cooch said.
That is correct. Being the child of an American does not automatically grant you citizenship if you are born overseas. It never has. It is only a formality however.

And that's exactly the way it works for any child, born abroad to an American citizen, not in the military. The parents, one of which must be a citizen, has to file for it on their behalf. It's not automatic. Not seeing any dishonesty here.

Not as big of a con as the "journalist " who posted the original article. Yet you blindly believed it.
You’re going to blame the journalists and not the idiots who drafted the thing that had to have a clarification released hours later because it was so poorly written? Of course you are.

Planning on posting a retraction or you good keeping incorrect information out there in your name?

You are celebrating because the new rule isn’t AS deplorable as we all thought? To me it’s still pretty deplorable.

There is something about this clarification from USCIS that doesn’t smell right. Was the rule written so vaguely out of incompetence or is something else going on?

Lest we forget just a few months ago when the same administration responded to news organizations denying a policy change that led to an increase in family separations when they had actually issued a zero tolerance order.

And the double down is complete. Bravo.
The incompetence was on the part of those that didnt read the policy and jumped on a dishonest story bc they wanted to believe it was true. Just like you did.
It's about children adopted overseas by military members, has nothing to do with children born overseas to military personnel. Nothing. Never did.

The lunatic left on here is truly amazing site to behold. One whole page of outrage because someone sent out a tweet. If someone tweets something, it is fact, depending on which team the person sending the tweet is on of course

Why are you so shocked? Nothing your idiot dictator does would be surprising. The joke is more on you than the rest of us.

Did Trump actually push for this? Serious question. If not he should be able to change it.
Which is probably what he’s doing. Create a bad scenario and then come in with an executive order to fix the problem he created, to be the savior. He’s done this multiple times.

Just stop. In what way is Trump a dictator?
You are the one that just believed a story from a tweet. There is really something wrong with some of you. How did this country get to this point?

And YOU believe what they tell you on Fox. YOU believe the lies Trump tells you EVERY DAY. Trump is like a dictator because he doesn't believe the laws of this country apply to him. His foreign friends are dictators. He likes Putin and Kim who are two of the worst human beings in the world. Murderers. Democratic foreign leaders think he's an idiot. You guys are all okay with this which makes you full potato so get over yourself.

You have completely lost your mind. Seriously, seek some kind of help.
I don't believe anything Trump states.
I disagree with you and now I am a FOX News watcher.
Has Trump cancelled the 2020 election? I would never vote for Trump or support him, name one thing he has done that would be considered a Dictator

You're joking right. Trump runs his business as a bully and dictator. Why would you think he'd run the country any different. He feels he can do anything and get away with it. If it wasn't for the Mueller investigation, Trump would have run wild with his dictator ways. Why do you think he loves other dictators so much. It's really not that hard to see, it's just surprising that some of you are so blind. You're just that stupid kid cheering on the bully as he beats up the kindergartner. You should know what's wrong with this country, all you have to do is look at yourself.

Awesome logic... "Trump is an idiot and says some stupid things therefore I'm automatically going to blindly believe every story written about him that is negative bc it makes me feel good".

Wow. I really feel bad for some of you.
I asked for an example of how he is a dictator and now I am a blind Trump supporter.
There is no possibility of actual discourse and discussion on this board. Some of you are so completely gone that there is no capacity to think or actually comprehend.
Here is your argument above, you claim he loves dictators so much and that means he wants to be a dictator. There are no facts in any of your claims above. Then of course you go straight to personal attacks because someone doesn't completely agree with you.
There will be an election in a year, then hopefully this dictator will be voted out.

Nope, just pointing out that it’s application is still flawed. Honestly I’m relieved it doesn’t apply to all service members overseas.
No you aren't, otherwise you'd edit your OP. Show some integrity. Even the dipshits that ran to twitter with their original stories have done so.

I have never seen anything like this. If one is not in complete agreement with them, then you are immediately labeled as something and in complete agreement with Trump. They are on full outrage mode and just believe anything at this point.
It would be the exact same from the right if Hillary had won. The discussion would have flipped and Tom would be screaming how stupid one is to believe a tweet from someone

LOL if you think this is just some bureaucratic realignment. It is part of the steady chipping away at what defines a citizen, and the continuing effort to make being a citizen harder for non-whites. That's it. Pure and simple. This is what Trump promised, but in most arenas he has been blocked by the courts. Here he has a free hand, and he is using it.
And, it won't end here. Trump is desperate to show some wins on the wall, and against immigrants. Expect more of these moves.

I edited my title. Let me know what you think is a fair amount for reparations and i will send damages.

He has all the same personality traits of a dictator/bully. He'll lie, cheat and steal. If you don't see it, that's your issue. Maybe someday you'll see that you've been a loyal follower of a disgusting and crazy person. I'd like to think that some day you'll start thinking straight.

Trump doesn't just say stupid things, he does stupid things. Trump is like every other stupid person, you're usually not surprised when they do something stupid. The first reaction is, yes, they're stupid enough to do it. So if people react to Trump in that way, that's Trump's fault because he's the idiot. Once Trump stops saying and doing stupid things, maybe people will have a different reaction.

Let me ask you this, if it was reported that Bill Clinton had sex with 10 women, would you be shocked? Would you defend him? Would I defend him? No to all of that. Why, because Bill Clinton has a history of being stupid on that way.

Here's the thing. You are confident that the Trump admin won't use this change - and thank you for pointing out that it IS a change when Cooch and other cons here are trying to say it isn't - you are confident that Team Trump won't deny anyone who would previously have gotten citizenship under the military rules.

I simply don't share that confidence.

I hope you are right, but I worry that it will now be easier - and legal - to deny citizenship to some children of servicemen who are American citizens. And I worry about it for 2 reasons: first because authority like that usually gets used; and second because Trump has repeatedly expressed antipathy toward various minority demographics.

If we were going to make a change, the "good" change would have been to bring State's procedures in line with the military approach.
