Had a buddy who went to the open practice on Friday. He came away impressed with Joly. Said he was a little bigger and quicker than he thought. Does he have what it takes to play at this level? Is he still a year or 2 away from seeing significant action?

No bigger star at the spring game than the 4th string running back. Who knows how good he truly is.
Hopefully he is a contributor, this year or next.

Really can never have enough RBs especially at Iowa. The Hawks had at least 3 injured last yr at different times. I still remember the yr. Drew Tate carried the team because Iowa was down to their 4th or 5th string RB. With the responsibilities the RBs have in the Iowa's pro-style offense injuries seem to come with the position.

Wasn't the kid from Emmetsburg our 6th stringer? And he NEVER fumbled. Awesome story and great kid.

Sam Brownlee? My first Hawkeye game was when they played Wisconsin that year and he was the running back (CSB) .

In regards to Joly, wasn't he one of the players that was thought to be not returning to the team? I could be mixing him up with another player.

Yep, Sam Brownlee. Can't say I've heard Joly was transferring. Thanks Shizzle.

He is practicing with the team so am assuming he is planning on sticking around at least through next fall.

Joly looked good at Valley. He appears to have good speed, he changes direction quickly and really accelerates through the line. I don't know if he will play much this year, but I believe he will contribute next year. He is a good athlete.

I think that you were thinking of Omar Truitt.

Brownlee was a real story in 2004. Results were not great but the effort OUTSTANDING!!!!

Joly started at DB, I believe, and then moved to RB last summer/Fall as he preferred RB to DB. Some players will evaluate their status after Spring practice and then decide if they stay or transfer. Hoping they stick it out but some will not. Those departures will get us under 85 and open up scholarship for Snyder and possibly others.

Snyder is already on scholarship so no worries there, Joly came in as a DB and switched to RB, just like Parker came in as a RB and switched to WR.

it takes time for players at the skill position to adjust. like some of have said injuries at the RB spot means you never have enough. at least at IA.

I gathered Snyder wasn't on scholarship yet. He was interviewed after the Des Moines scrimmage and was asked if he was. His response was something like it is out of his control. Joly is our 5th RB with two more coming in this summer. It would be a pleasant surprise to me if he ever gets many snaps.

Snyder is not yet on scholarship. I expect he will be this summer.

I know he is not listed on chart Blair compiles but I think that chart only available to Lounge members so others don't see it.
