March 13: IOWA ends up #34 in the NET Rankings with 8 Quad 1 Wins, 5 Quad 2 Wins. 2 Quad 3 LOSSES

And Purdue now sits at #30 after losing last night. If they slip to #31 or worse, the home game with them coming up is suddenly Quad 2 as well.

@Hawksfor3 ,

Today, the upcoming home game vs Purdue would be viewed as Quad 2.

Also, today, the Michigan home win is viewed as quad 1 (was quad 2 YESTERDAY).

On the bright side, with home wins piled up against teams in the 31-35 range, we're really likely to have hit our floor of Q1 wins for the season. If the team at 30 drops out, odds are it is one of the teams we've beaten moving in.

yep. lots of quad movement on a daily basis. we may end up with 5 quad 1 wins on Selection Sunday but the 5 teams today likely are not the same 5 teams in March.

#40 Minny (12-11) is desperate for a win today.

Once again, in one day's time, we see a lot of movement/leap frogging in the B1G's NET rankings. Rutgers, as an example, went from having the 9th best NET ranking in the B1G yesterday to the 5th best today. Nice job, @MrsScrew . :) Iowa stayed 7th best, watching 2 teams jump them and 2 teams fall behind them.

I like 7-up.

If these 2 teams go to #31 or worse, they become Quad 2 (and our 7 quad 1 wins become 5 again):
WIN #26 Michigan (H)
WIN #30 Rutgers (H)

Similarly, if Wisky gets to #30 or better, they become Quad 1 (we could reach 8 quad 1 wins, ideally):
WIN #31 Wisconsin (H)

One day, we sit at 5 quad 1 wins.

The next day, 7.

It's crazy how your resume looks good one day and so-so the next.

Ah, I didn't realize Quad 1 went to 75. In that case, Northwestern (157 NET) and Nebraska (175 NET) are Quad 3 teams?

Go up 3 posts (post 294). As you will see, the 3 games involving N'w & Debbie fall in both Quad 3 and Quad 4.

To summarize those 3 games:

Quad 3 (2-1): Home vs a 76-160, Neutral site vs 101-200, Away vs 135-240.

WIN #157 Northwestern (A)

LOSS #175 Nebraska (A)

Quad 4 (5-0): Home vs a 161-353, Neutral vs 201-353, Away vs 241-353

WIN #175 Nebraska (H)

Indiana game was on the road so it’s still a quad 1 loss (1-75). All of Iowa’s remaining games are quad 1 games as long as Purdue stays in the top 30.

Right now Purdue at home would be a Quad 2 result.

Thanks, Fran!

Damn, that is some confusing alchemy they put together for ranking teams' games. I'm having really bad flashbacks to my years studying mathematical analysis. ;)

another thing I keep hearing: The Selection Committee really likes Quad 1 road wins. Iowa has 3 (of their 7 total quad 1 wins); not sure how that ranks with other top teams.

What's the high seed ceiling for this team? 4 seed? Of course we want to stay out of the 8/9 game, and also is it true that a 7 seed Iowa could be in Omaha? That, my friends, would be awesome...usually I just get to see Iowa Baseball in Omaha...if they were here, I'd have to find a way in!

I think winning out could still get us a #3 seed, especially if we won out through the BTT.

They could get to Omaha but not something I would bank on. Pretty much relying on where we fall on the S curve at that point.

The NET rankings and the sorting of wins and losses are very fluid. You would think that by now things would settle down a bit where our wins and losses are solid quad 1, quad 2, etc. but too many of our opponents (past & future) are on the borderline when it comes to quad 1, quad 2, etc. results.

Cincy remained at #51 today, btw ;)

If we get a 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament they should automatically give Fran all of the National Coach of the Year awards. ;)

As of this morning, Iowa has nine Quad 1 wins, which are the most among Big Ten teams and third nationally behind Kansas (10) and Baylor (10). #Hawkeyes

Hopefully Iowa will end up with 10 or more quad one wins. That should keep them close to the top in Quad one wins.

Whatever we do, stay off the 8/9 seed line! I think 2-3 more wins total (including BTT) punches our ticket somewhere between a 5-7 seed.

Fluidity.

Fluidity is the key word here.

On Feb 17, two days ago, we were at 7 quad 1 wins, 4 quad 2 wins, or 11 total.

And today, Feb 19, we are at 9 quad 1 wins, 2 quad 2 wins, or 11 total.

@Franisdaman what do you think of DePaul (#69 Net) playing Villanova (#16 Net) at DePaul tonight? If somehow, and that's a big somehow, DePaul beats Villanova, what kind of movement do you see here?

Well.....easy come, easy go.

Cincy moves up to 50 today and promptly loses to UCF in 2OT’s at home. Cincy actually hit at half court shot down 2, but it left his hand just after the buzzer.

Rutgers goes down again at home. Puts their Top 30 in jeopardy.

DePaul only down 20 at half. The are edging close to a quad 3.
