Iowa had no shot. It was right after Fran arrived and Iowa was still pretty bad. Sucks because he was a good player and he was in Iowa's backyard. If Lickliter would of been canned a year or two earlier who knows.Originally posted by dacred:
was watching the Whisky game and saw that Carolina had a kid from Iowa. The kid is a player, did Iowa or ISU ever have a shot at him? Not meant to be a dig, just wondering.
If last night was the first you have ever heard of Marcus Paige you clearly are not a basketball fan in the State of Iowa.Originally posted by dacred:

this and the fact that MJ just happened to be on campus at the time of his visit and just happened to run into him while there... what new for UNC tho.Originally posted by StormHawk42:
UNC was his dream school. Iowa and ISU weren't much to write home about at the time of his commitment.
Certainly possible considering he is the best player on Carolina, which Iowa beat. And NC gave UW all they could handle as well.Originally posted by hooper56:
Fran told him if he came to Iowa we would play in the final four. And I think we would have too.
She was a very good high school player, and was one of Wisky's best--if not THE best--players during her tenure. Pretty sure she dealt with some injuries as well but can't completely remember.Originally posted by printsit:
What about his sister?? They were talking last night how she went to Wisky and was all that and is currently playing in Europe..
I don't recall her being really good and I don't think Iowa even offered her.. can anyone verify??
Well, maybe. I notice that North Carolina hasn't made the final four since Paige has been there so I'm not sure he would have been enough to put Iowa over the top.Originally posted by torbee:

Either Paige or Ulis would have made Iowa a Top 15-Top 10 type squad, IMO.
Oh well.
Iowa basketball was king and family's used to watch it all the time. Alford came and had some good years and some bad years, and it ended badly. I think that ended the family watching era of Iowa basketball. Back in the day the only games you got on TV were ISU or Iowa. Now ESPN has brought on all the other schools and also AAU has exposed these kids to the other coaches and teams.Originally posted by ynglbc:
Marcus Paige grew up when Iowa was playing bad basketball. I'm just not sure how Iowa kids can play out of state. Parents must not have been big Iowa fans or else it would have rubbed off.
Growing up my entire family watched Iowa basketball on TV and it was like a family event every game. That was when all games were shown on TV.
