Not saying you are wrong, or right, but the link you posted doesn't support your arguement. It clearly states the institution is involved , which could be Fran, or not.
Again, just pointing out your link doesn't support your arguement. It is very unclear about parts of the process.
I'm sure it would of been better if he could of snagged the Notre Dame job. 🤣 Too bad for the family they wanted nothing to do with with his mediocrity.I played for my dad at the D3 level, and it was an absolute ****ing disaster. Solid role player, but might as well have been a total bum in everyone's eyes. Now multiply that by 50 when it's the B10 and you got two sons in the damn rotation.
WTF did the McCaffrey's expect?? Patrick has had some nice moments, nothing more. Other than nifty post entries to Garza, Connor was a complete bust for five straight years... Although I absolutely loved him this past season (not hard when you're 25 playing against 18 year olds).
Again, what did these people expect??... really been turned off lately by public comments made by the fam.

Gee, yet another false narrative spread around here like it’s the truth. I wonder what could have the McCaffery family so upset in the podcast.
Yes, Fran picks the B1G Outstanding Sportsmanship Award for Iowa. Fran picked SO Connor McCaffery over SR Nate Stanley and wrestling’s Tony Cassioppi. Ferentz, Brands, and Barta just went along with it. 🙄
I think the link spells it out fairly well. Every school submits “sportsmanship honorees” from each varsity sport. The B1G (not Iowa or Fran) then selects one male and one female for the “Outstanding Sportsmanship Award” from that list. At least that’s how it’s been for 20 years now. This part is without question.
Here is another link from the Big Ten itself. Start with the yellow highlighted portion. It doesn’t come out and say “Fran doesn’t pick the Outstanding Sportsmanship Award” on Iowa’s behalf but helps clear it some regardless.

then why have these from the East Commtted to IA
Toussaint NYC
Garza Washington DC
Bowen Boston
Dembele NJ
Mulvey Rotterdaum, NY
IA has as good a chance as any one in getting any of these player since Fran is from Philly and has connections on the East Coast.. for all your knowledge of the East Coast I am confused by your lack of knowledge about that fact.
Elkridge has his connection in the Boston area.
each of Fran's assistant coaches have connections to key recruiting areas.
Gatens for the Iowa and Illinois area
Eldrige for the East Coast NY, NJ, MA and the surrounding areas
Dillard for the Midwest. IN, OH, MI and in the southern states.
Fran Philadelphia and the surrounding area, and going to AAU events across the country. Fran is looking all across the country for players to play for his team.
this could be his break out season
with this class of 4 4* players being FR and only losing 3 players in these
4* top 100 Patrick
3* Perkins
4* top 100 Krikke by 247
he already has 4* top 100 Koch by ESPN and 247 as Rivals Just dropped him out of there top 100 because he does norhave a elite offer. this is the Rivals way with every IA recruit,
Garza couldn't even get a top 100 rating as the best he could get was a #111 4*,
Koch has dropped from #72 to #109.
this the Rivals way for IA BB and FB recruits,
You're by far my favorite commenter on here. So no way ima pick a fight w you. We might disagree about random iowa basketball bs. But we're 100% on the same page when it comes to racial propaganda. And that's more important than anything else lmao.
That’s weird. Before you said “Other than nifty post entries to Garza, Connor was a complete bust for five straight years.” Now you’re saying that he had a breakthrough because he was significantly older and playing against “children”. Yes, I remember all of those children out there in D1 basketball. Lord, you’re not good at this. This is you getting destroyed.
I honestly don't know what to believe when it comes to Dean Oliver's posts.
Does anyone actually believe he played DIII basketball and that his dad was his coach? And I am very skeptical regarding his allegation that Margaret "...viciously berated a minimum wage Carver usher within earshot of thousands of fans. And then swaggered back to her seat like she was Marie Antoinette."
And why do I say this? Simply check out what follows to see who his favorite poster is. I linked the thread where it came from (that is, if he doesn't delete that very telling post). Dean has a lot of bad takes in not only that 2024 recruiting thread but in the 2025 recruiting thread as well. Even @HawkHoops80 (who adds a lot regarding recruiting on here) disputed his bad takes several times in both recruiting threads before giving up with his nonsense and moving on.
2024 Recruiting. Orig Post Updated Oct 2nd. 36 Offers So Far (incl. Chris Tadjo & Cooper Koch). 2 Scholarships Available (NOT counting PMac & Tony)
Hope so. The kid has been on campus multiple times so he is obviously interested. I think it's going to come down to whether or not Diggs takes that spot. I don't think Iowa's in a position to take 3 6'6/6'7 wings in 1 class. After the July live periods, Diggs should know all of the teams that...iowa.forums.rivals.com
Yeah the defense of Marge seems a little blind at this point. She's shown her colors enough times.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yep, you got me. If I were to lie, I would TOTALLY lie that I was a mediocre D3 player. Or that my dad was an assistant coach in the conference w the lowest RPI (MEAC). Makes so much sense.
And yea, you got me on the Large Marge incident at Carver too. I wasn't specific AT ALL when telling that anecdote. I literally spend my time on anonymous message boards of a middling Big 10 basketball program making up stories. Totally adds up.
Jesus man, get a grip.
Jesus man, get a grip.

Wow. Not a good look for Fran, at all....He was selected for that by his dad...and he was just Iowa's representative for that award...every school has someone that is awarded that for basketball and the school selects who that person is. In 2020 it was Connor for Iowa. In 2022 it was Patrick for Iowa.
Marge looks like Meatloaf. That's all I gotYeah the defense of Marge seems a little blind at this point. She's shown her colors enough times.
She had a reputation of getting kicked out of gyms before she even got to Iowa. Similar stories here.
I was at the E. Illinois game last year and witnessed a fan get thrown out for yelling at the Iowa bench during a timeout. He was out of line, but at no point used inappropriate language. He was just imploring his Hawks to get back on D. After the usher had already begun to escort the fan out, here comes Marge out of her seat screaming and chasing after the man, calling him a "fat f..k."
Get a clue Mrs. McCaffery
I do think it would be better if those posting would not use names of real people like former Iowa athletes (unless you really are , which I doubt). A newbie to this forum might attribute the posted opinions to the real person whose name is usurped. Secondly, I have known several Margarets and none used the nickname Marge. Now if Margaret M. does ..well about a first. Or maybe she just doesn't like "Maggie."You SLURP the McCaffrey's so hard that you're clearly in denial. Yes, that incident did happen at Carver. And the next dude who posted noted a similar event he witnessed himself. The anecdotal evidence is conclusive.
And yes, my father was a D1 coach at a low-major program. Which would mean I too have a coach's wife for a mother. Never once ever would my mom have dreamed of behaving like MargeMac behaves. She would sit quietly in the stands and cheer. That's it. So would all the other coaching wives.
Here's another "lie" for you: I majored in psychology in college. I think that Marge shows many signs of being a pure psychopath... real great rep for Iowa Athletics you got there man!!

Choosing Dean Oliver as my username was a tribute to one of my childhood heroes. Who was the coolest dude ever in a middle schooler's eyes when he was kicking ass at Mason City in the mid-90s. His point guard battles with Ryan Sears (Ankeny) and David Newman (DM Hoover) were legendary. It's not my fault if anyone is stupid enough to think I'm actually Dean Oliver lmao.

Sorry I do not think a poster should use another living person's name as a handle.Choosing Dean Oliver as my username was a tribute to one of my childhood heroes. Oh cmon. I think it’s pretty clear it wasn’t the real Dean Oliver.Sorry I do not think a poster should use another living person's name as a handle.
--dumb readers or not.. .Adding "fan" or similar after the name would be much more of a tribute, not to mention realistic.

Oh hell noI love the McCafferys... I hope Connor is the next Head Coach for the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Besides his last name he has zero qualifications to be a HC of a big 10 program anytime soon. Meanwhile odds are Fran will be retired when Connor maybe in his early 30s at the latest (guessing within next 7-8 years when Fran turns 70).why do you hate Connor ?
I don't care what team you support or what political affiliations someone holds....dropping F bombs or wearing it on clothing in a place that many children are in attendance is just pure trashYeah the defense of Marge seems a little blind at this point. She's shown her colors enough times.

I hope you misheard but doubt you did
I was pretty close the entire game. I did not witness any of this. I even moved down about five rows after the women’s game let out. But hey, it’s posted on the internet so it must be true. Like Peter Jok’s second OWI in Iowa City that there’s no documentation anywhere of happening. News outlets, Iowa Courts Online, Johnson Co court records…..
I’m fairly positive I would have seen a fan being escorted out 16 rows in front of me or an angry woman dropping F bombs a section over in a half empty arena. 🤷♂️
Any fan that comes from the upper row to yell at the coach/team deserves whatever they get.
And had he used it if a white player made the same play leading Dolph to make the same call............. how would you have perceived the statement then?Perception is reality. Yes he intended what you said but it was unacceptable and Leerfield acted accordingly.
Well if he's lying about her calling him a FF thats lame but kind of irrelevant when her husband absolutely drops f bombs when he's having his melt downs like at Northwestern where my buddy witnessed her getting escorted out too.I was pretty close the entire game. NN is mid court on the opposite side of the of the floor from the Iowa bench.
115 replies, plus the original tweet with no mention of Margaret calling this guy a fat f..k or having words for him?
Yes, and he walked from there over to the Iowa bench and yelled at the staff. As keenly as you were watching for such behavior I am surprised you missed it.

I'll amend it to say if you are a grown up who has a history of getting thrown out of games, especially HS games, you're trash. Here's a NY Times article from the Sienna days that documents her feeling the need to run her mouth and getting ejected for using profanity towards the officials. Also has Fran calling her Marg for the posters who get pissy about her getting called that on here.
Just because you saw/heard something different at one game doesn't cancel out a reputation she's built over decades. Would you be defending the same behavior if they were the first family of Wisconsin basketball?

The Wife of a Coach Is Seen and Heard (Published 2008)
For all the good vibes that Siena has generated this season, the team’s biggest national headlines came courtesy of Margaret McCaffery, the wife of the Saints Coach and a former star player at Notre Dame.www.nytimes.com
Security took the guy past his seat in NN to grab his belongings as they escorted him out.I’m surprised I didn’t see it. I’m surprised they tracked this guy all the way from the “upper rows of NN” down to the floor and around the Iowa end of the floor to the Iowa bench, just knowing he was going to do something. That seems strange. Or did the guy come down from NN, to the court side media table, or “Gucci Row” as Dakich calls it, and yell at the team. If that happened, I’d be a lot less surprised.
Your "just because I didn't see it one time or read about it in a major publication recently it doesn't happen" BS is ridiculous. Thanks for the condescending advice, I do take things on here with a grain of salt but when it lines up with all the other testimonials from people who have seen it firsthand over many years it is pretty believable. There’s no doubt Fran cusses. You can clearly him cuss at many games in person pretty easily and every so often, the TV broadcast picks it up. I’m fairly positive Margaret cusses too.
I’ve read the article about her time at Siena, probably 12 years ago. I’ve heard the stories about her and Fran being kicked out of several games. I’ve never read anything from a reputable source about it though. You’d tend to believe that one of the news outlets would have picked up at least one of these occurrences like The NY Times did at Siena, especially if Fran himself is being removed from HS games.
I wouldn’t defend Wisconsin’s behavior if they were donating money to a church or feeding the homeless. It also doesn’t really matter what you or I think either. Mostly it comes down to how the players with their families and the recruits with their families feel about the McCaffery’s. The overwhelming common trend has been a positive one, no?
My point was just because it was posted here, don’t take it as hard and fact truth.
+**++++++++++++++++Marg is not the same as Marge. Marg could be short for Margaret (hard G). but maybe you meant Marge. Whatever ....but I will say I think saying Large Marge, as per faux Oliver., is impolite even on this board,Well if he's lying about her calling him a FF thats lame but kind of irrelevant when her husband absolutely drops f bombs when he's having his melt downs like at Northwestern where my buddy witnessed her getting escorted out too.
