Marinelli-Hall tonight

The kid is going to be good, but Hall exposesd alot of weaknesses that he will have to address before you guys can anoint him national champion or even an AA.

Lax, even though I agree with matter7172 that his points are valid, I also tend to think it too soon to make judgment on Alex based on one match. I believe the main point is that Alex MAY need room time next year to work on those issues matter7172 brought up, because they have tripped many a state champion. I should also say that I am normally inclined to want my freshmen to RS, so I may be a little biased there.

Overall though, I think you guys have a good one in Alex and he will no doubt see the podium in his career.

I just said my jury was out based on what I saw against Hall and laid out the reasons why I felt that way. I've seen a lot of "can't miss" wrestlers "miss" to recognize some of their common problems. I haven't made a judgment yet but some doubts have been raised. Apparently, waiting to proclaim AM as "sure fire" until he actually wrestles in college is a problem here.

I don't post on your guys' board often, but when I do it's either informative or "Iowa positive" as I have a great deal of respect for your program!

I'm mostly repeating the sentiment of some others here but I think that AM is as close to a lock at the next level as it gets. I'm anticipating a true frosh start (I know it's against Brands' norm) but with those SRs you have in the lineup I think it's worth it. If they do go against their norm and start him as a true frosh, I'd assume that they expect an AA finish and I'd expect the same!

I think you guys got a great one in Marinelli and it speaks volumes to the guy's intestinal fortitude that he took on a challenge against the #1 pfp on the road! He looks all Hawk to me, and I think he'll be an Iowa favorite very soon!

I'd take him right now at Penn State. You are insane if you think there are going to be 8 guys better than Marinelli at 165 next year.
I personally don't think there will be, but the weight will be just as tough if not tougher next year (even with the loss of Dieringer.) It won't be easy to get on the podium, let alone top 5, but I know that Alex will be up to the challenge if he and the coaches feel he's ready.

I think Bo Jordan moves up to 174, as he cut down for the team this year, and has looked mighty sluggish on more than one occasion when I've watched him.

That leaves Isaac Jordan, Daniel Lewis, Max Rohskopf, Jake Faust, Jim Wilson, David McFadden, Ryan Preisch, and Cooper Moore coming back of FLO's ranked guys @ 165. Then add in Logan Massa, and potentially Anthony Valencia who will be either 165/174, he is listed at 165 on ASU's roster. Then most likely Joseph for PSU who will be a factor in all of this. ALSO, Okie State will have either Chandler Rogers in at 165, or a rejuvenated Chance Marsteller. With all that you've got a pretty dang tough weight. Still think Alex could make waves.

I think most here have a wait and see attitude, but the guy is #2 in his recruiting class for a reason, ahead of Penn State imminent True Frosh Starter Suriano, whom I think will probably AA right out of the gate by the way. Top 10 recruits in High School are more college ready in todays wrestling landscape than ever before It seems (TR Frosh Top 10 recruit AAs: Megaludis, H.Stieber, Storley, Retherford, Dance, Cox, Snyder). I have no problem anointing a Top 10 overall recruit as a likely AA as a true frosh nowadays. Even A.Alton and T.Massa had fantastic True Frosh campaigns until they faltered in R12 at NCAA's due to gas tank problems.

Edit: Other True Frosh AA's in the last 5 years off the top of my head (not limited to just top 10 recruits): Zeke Moisey, Kevin Jack, BJ Clagon, Darian Cruz, Nick Gwiazdowski, Cam Tessari... If anybody else can think of any other examples feel free to speak up.

Greco or DHM? Anyways, must be hard to type with the Skipper's balls on your chin

I did get a chuckle out of that retort. It was pretty funny, but for some reason Chief, I imagine you standing on the end of the dock pointing to the air yelling, "The plane, the plane." After all this place is fantansy island half the time.

Great post. I'll go along with that post. Logical you can be at times (when you want to)! If we could just keep you from being so obstinate. You might try not cleaning the toilets before you post. Just a helpful hint. You may not like me but I like you.:)

Spooner does a lot of what I call "ambush posting". He waits for people to post their opinion on something and then he "ambushes" them with some snarky, smart mouth comment a lot of times. MNHawk is a master at this style of posting also. How many threads have you seen Spooner start?

Lately Spooner seems to be a bit more rational and less upset. Some of the time anyways. Must be back on the Court Ordered Meds........

He may have walked the walk (moreso than the rest of us HS wannabe stars), but he looks to have gotten lost.

He's over on an Iowa site discussing Iowa recruits instead of back home at PSU discussing all of your own studs.

Even though he may have not said anything very derogatory..........doesn't mean that he is the only one being realistic here.

It's all a matter of opinion. And he doesn't seem to like it when we don't buy into his opinion. Anytime you post, you are putting yourself out there. If you don't want your opinions to be questioned....don't post.

And if you think you are being reasonable and the people calling out your opinion are not............well that's the internet and fandom isn't it.

It's the "bell tower" and not the dock and it's spelled "fantasy" not fantansy.

Agree 100%. Spooner only got better because of SanSouci--he keeps us all in line.

NO.....we can anoint him anytime we want in our "fanatasy dream world"..... right?

Now when the NCAA finally agrees with us............well.............:(

sorry matter7172. I thought for sure you were Andy.

So something you posted wasn't true. Yet you were so sure of yourself.

How does that happen on the internet these days?

Please..................there is a board back in Pennsylvania that may want and need your posts. Help them out and leave us alone.

Not just you personally, but all of you immensely intelligent beings who have so graciously decided to correct us of our imperfections and help us see the error of our ways. :(

We are fine with our own delusions. We really are doing OK down here in the gutter. Take all of your important and perfectly correct pronouncements, have them blessed by St. Carl and...........well you know GTFO..........

Mark Hall should be a freshman in college this year. A full year ahead in age probably has nothing to do with this match but it sure doesn't hurt.

I am having a very hard time following anything you say. I heard this board was bizarre and touchy, but this exceeds my expectations dramatically. What did I post that wasn't true? I stated my opinion about AM, which some of the folks here didn't agree with. Did I call them names or something similar? And really all I said was certain things from his match with Hall had my jury still out as to whether he would be successful in college. Is that really that threatening? Although I may have to agree with you about your own delusional status. That may be true.

You may want to try reading that again. I believe the response was to pennstate1985. Now to your point about this board being "bizarre and touchy" - why would you choose to post here? It is an Iowa board so of course some will get defensive defending the Hawks. That doesn't happen on penn state boards I'm sure. I met some good pen state fans at big 10s the last 2 years but apparently none of them post here, We only get members of the cult - lucky for us. Can't imagine how it will be later this week if the lions don't choke.

You're right, I misread the post. My bad. In apologize. I don't think there was a reason to jump on someone for a mistake, though. When was the last time Penn State choked in a tournament? Maybe the 2011 Big Ten tournament? Why would I post here? To prove that people were wrong about this board, among other things. It's only been a few people that have been touchy so far. So so far, so good.

Sheesh..,he's a Hawk and he's Irish...think there is a law against talking back to him this week :D

kwood you have been on fire this year, its like i'm thinking something then I read it in one of your posts, now get the f*** out of my head.

I don't think there is anything trollish about what I posted. Did I say something inflammatory, off-topic or extraneous? Or did I disrupt the conversation? None of those. Did I disagree respectfully, yes.

You're a PSU fan and at that point you had 6 career posts and almost all, if not all, of them were devoted to running down AM. If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck...

Your jury is still out? How suspenseful.Well, my jury has reached a verdict. Marinelli is innocent of any negative expectations you might have for him. Matter of fact, my jury decided that Marinelli is going to be just fine which will probably keep Hall always one weight away from Marinelli. My jury also decided that your guilty of being "YOU".

Not jumping you but it sure seems like you are quick to correct others (even mistakenly) and take shots at an Iowa recruit and this board. I have some strong opinions of Carl (first hand knowledge not made up bs) that aren't glowing towards him but you will NEVER see me posting them or posting anything for that matter on a Penn State board.

By the way I don't think the lions will choke - I expect them to run away with the title. Hawks needed a healthy Brody and Stoll to have a realistic chance. Either way I will be at MSG cheering the Hawks on - strange things can happen under the big lights.
