Saw a tweet saying Connor was playing in a summer baseball league out in NY SIENNA I think and then also working out with members of the sienna basketball team to. Busy summer being an athlete.

Difficult to work on your off season basketball drills while playing baseball. Basketball players get better during their off season- not during the season.

I think this is kind of a cool story. Connor enhancing his baseball skills, reportedly his better long term athletic pursuit, while refining his skills to play hoops for his dad and a game he also loves to play. All dialed by his dad’s connections in an area and University he grew up in.

I think Connor is going to make a major leap on the basketball team this next year. He was a bigger reason for last year’s success than many seem to recognize. He was very close to putting it all together last year; his first full year. As it was, he made significant contributions.

Think how long he’s been part of the program officially and unofficially - since Jr high thru redshirt freshman. He’s a big part of the solution IMO.

Not sure as to how significant C McC was to overall team success. He played well until about mid January and really hit a freshman wall hard, with the exceptions of a few plays was mostly net negative down the stretch.

However, most freshmen players hit that wall the first time they play Big Ten competition two or three times a week. Joey W is a much better player and he slumped down the stretch, obviously not as badly. C McC will have all of August and all of Sept Oct and Nov to work on BBall. He's not inventing F=MV2 he's playing basketball.

Think he'll be a good starter at PG this year. Joey T is certainly going to get a lot more PT than was likely just two weeks ago. There really are only 2 guards or, if you prefer a more a positional line up, two point guards and two wings, and two of those four guys have never played a minute of college ball. That is a scary proposition.

Conner is an average basketball player in the BIG. Doubt whether he would make any others starting five. That being said he's going to have to choose. He's not good enough in either sport to bounce back and forth,

Connor also got his bell rung pretty good.

Maybe maximizing his talent in one sport isn’t his goal.

Although early in his career, he has not exhibited exceptional skills in either sport. I really believe he would be better off choosing one sport and focusing his attention on that sport. But, like I said still early and we can hope for the best in both sports!

Connor will have more than enough time to work on basketball related skills. Providing he is disciplined enough, which I certainly believe he is, what would you rather have him do in his ample free time, work on basketball or jack around? He is a back up point guard, for God sake!

Ah...the stories fans tell themselves...

Lolz

It’s silly to think Connor should be working on his game anyway. The kid was a 4 star, top 100 recruit. How much better can he possibly get?

But seriously folks...to put this in realistic perspective, how many head basketball coaches of P5 programs would be ok with one of their scholarship players spending their summer playing baseball? Be honest.

It’s silly.

Said another way, if Connor’s s scholly was filled by a guard of comparable ability who was 100% committed to basketball, would the Iowa Basketball program be better off or worse off?

This kind of farce would not be tolerated in any similar situation in which the head coach was not the scholarship player’s father. This is about ego. The giant egos of the McCaffery family taking precedence over what’s best for the Iowa basketball program. Period.

You mad bro? Every school in America would allow Connor to play both and play baseball this summer. He’s a Pro Baseball player that can help the Hawks win basketball games. Keep doing your thing Connor !

Connor compared to average Hawkeyereport poster---clearly Connor is vastly superior athlete. Connor compared to pool his peers at P5 level in Basketball or Baseball---right now he looks like a well below average player in both sports.

So if Xavier Foster was also a talented baseball player and would only come to Iowa if he could try to play both sports your contention is Fran would say no? Same with Coach K if Zion Williamson had the same dual sport situation as Connor?

Hahahaha

Are you seriously comparing Connor to X Foster and Z Williamson?

This is my whole point. How many P5 coaches would give a scholly to this kid with the proviso that he would only come if he could play baseball too?

Be honest.

This is not Bo Jackson, Deon Sanders or MJ we’re talking about here. Not even remotely close.

Connor would be better at basketball if he didn't also play baseball. That should be obvious to anyone. But that doesn't mean he can't be a solid player if he works his tail off in the offseason. Maybe he wakes up early and puts up shots before baseball. Who knows. Plenty of football players miss spring workouts because of baseball and develop perfectly fine.

Don’t forget the ego of the heller family as well

How do you know this? Kids get burned out or hurt focusing on one sport all the time. Most kids drink or play Xbox when basketball is done. Connor plays baseball and makes the deans list.

It happens regularly, wtf are you talking about? Literally one of the best players in the country is going through the same process right now.

Huh? Yea thats what the rest of my post was getting at. He seems to be a hard worker and is trying to make the most of it.

This is a tempest in a tea pot.

What we really need is a couple of huge OTs playing BBall when the football season ends. Get seniors with no future eligibility issues and use 'em like Knight and Keady. The FBs play a few minutes, give some brutally hard fouls, and laugh while doing it.
