Mcaffery Playing summer baseball in NY

I like that Connor is giving it a go with baseball. He would be eligible for the MLB draft at this time next year.
Actually, because of his chronological age, I'm pretty sure he's eligible for the MLB draft this year already despite being only two years removed from high school.

Ah...the stories fans tell themselves...

Lolz

This kind of farce would not be tolerated in any similar situation in which the head coach was not the scholarship player’s father. This is about ego. The giant egos of the McCaffery family taking precedence over what’s best for the Iowa basketball program. Period.

Why do we have to tolerate this sort of baloney on here? Just ridiculous comments. And way, way out of line.

It’s silly to think Connor should be working on his game anyway. The kid was a 4 star, top 100 recruit. How much better can he possibly get?

But seriously folks...to put this in realistic perspective, how many head basketball coaches of P5 programs would be ok with one of their scholarship players spending their summer playing baseball? Be honest.

It’s silly.

Said another way, if Connor’s s scholly was filled by a guard of comparable ability who was 100% committed to basketball, would the Iowa Basketball program be better off or worse off?

Ever heard of Jalen Suggs, 5* basketball and 4* football. Iowa is or was recruiting him on the basis he can do both.

I don't think anyone is saying that C McC does not need to work on his game. The question is really does the summer ball prevent C from working on his game. Since he's going to be working out with a respectable college group at Sienna and will have part of August, all of September, all of October and part of November for off season work on his BBall game.

It seems like a pretty heavy majority of posters think C will have plenty of time for additional BBall work. I expect his coach/father has already outlined the most important areas of improvement that C should address in the off season.

This might be just a guess, because I never played baseball, never really seen a complete baseball game in which my lad wasn't playing, but wouldn't there be some athletic drills that translate into basketball, like base running in the top speed starts and stops that are an enormous part of basketball (especially defense)?

He will have time to work on his basketball stuff, just not nearly as much as he would if he wasn't playing baseball.

I will be surprised if he does, unless he really turns it around. .238 average at Iowa is not going to do it, when that supposed to be your top tool.
Was he talking this year or ever? I didn't think college players could even get drafted after one year of college? I don't really know, but isnt it either straight out of high school or stay 2/3 years at your college?

There are also some age loopholes that I think make him eligible.

If attending a 4 year school the player has to complete Jr. or Sr. year or be 21 yrs old. Community College player can sign at any time.

Connor turns 21 this summer, which makes him old enough to be eligible for the MLB draft that is currently underway. Most people who have played one year of college baseball aren't that old.

Conner won us four to fave games last year. His passing and ability to lead the team was obvious. Kid is a really fine player.
What games were those? This is the second time I asked the question. I think your comment is bogus.

Like I said he will get drafted
You could be right...about 1200 players get drafted every year...approximately 900 are from colleges. To be highly drafted as an outfielder you need to have elite speed or be able to hit with power. I think he is an excellent athlete and a good kid, but I don't see that in his tool set.

Looks like he is playing 1st base for his summer league team.

“Way, way out of line” how?

What, specifically, would you like to see done? Would you like to see me banned? Or would you be satisfied with just deleting the comment?

After all, we wouldn’t want you to have to “tolerate” anything that doesn’t align one hundred percent with your personal opinion or makes you the least bit uncomfortable. Said another way, it was very wrong of me to assume that you were an adult capable of handling the rigor of open discourse. I sincerely apologize.

I think he's just asking you to not be an insufferable douche all the time.

Doesn't seem like much to ask.

You weren't engaging in open discourse. You were insulting Iowa coaches. When that happens, the post should be deleted and the poster asked to clean up his act.

This is hilarity in action. You referring to being an adult. Comedy gold.

It is not your opinion that folks have a problem with, it is the nonstop condescension and douchiness of your posts, your certainty that your OPINION is gospel and that anybody cares. Everybody is entitled to an opinion, just like everybody is entitled to ignore and wholly discount people who are unable to see outside of themselves or unable to realize that their opinions are just that, opinions.

Hahahaha

Are you seriously comparing Connor to X Foster and Z Williamson?

This is my whole point. How many P5 coaches would give a scholly to this kid with the proviso that he would only come if he could play baseball too?

Be honest.

This is not Bo Jackson, Deon Sanders or MJ we’re talking about here. Not even remotely close.

How about Pat Connaughton? :)

You are definitely a wannabe chad.

People troubled by words are weak minded people.

Here endeth the lesson, fake chad.

Wasn’t insulting anyone. I was stating my opinion of the situation.

I was totally engaging in open discourse. Indeed, if you have anything of value to say, by all means, say it.
