McCaffery boys vs Murray and Tousasaint

Bumper, I quit posting but for rare occasions. The smart ass know it all’s hiding behind the screen who ridicule those who have a different view are appalling. I like and welcome others thoughts. If everyone agrees why have a site. Most of us are here because we are Hawk fans. Why fight with your teams fans? I think our best lineup from a defense and offense stand point yielding the most wins would be: Garza, Keegan, Wieskamp, Fredrick, and Joe T. This would greatly improve our defense, speed, athleticism, and offense and rebounding. Bring in Nunge, Bohannon and Connor as needed. Let the game slow down for Patrick. He is playing out of control most of the time. Teams are playing off Connor and double teaming Garza. Let Bohannon find his shot again and limit his liability on defense. He is getting abused on defense. This doesn’t mean I don’t like these kids. I do like them. The give starters would give Iowa its best chance at a National Championship. I never had a desire to coach as I was a business man. But, I played a lot of organized basketball and had great and not so great coaches over the years. I am not a fan of “Daddy Ball”. Iowa has had Alford , Lick, and Fran with kids that played. Ferentz in football. Some coaches handle this well while it is a disaster other times. I would hate to have a coaches son get my minutes if I knew I was better and everyone was telling me I was better. These coaches are making millions of dollars and I wish they didn’t treat the program as their personal toy to do whatever they wish. But then we have Barta who let’s this go on.
This guy needs to post more often. Very intuitive. Appreciated a down to earth, honest post.

If you follow these boards, as most of us do, you will have someone floating a rumor that every non starter is transferring. Its almost always total bullshite.

Toussaint plays regular minutes, first guy off the bench. He plays behind a school legend. When Joe came here he knew Jordan would play ahead of him for a season. Well its this year not last. Joe T will be a 3 year starter and probably play around 30+ minutes a game next season. Joe knows that. Next year in many ways this will be Joe T's team. It seems like he's both well liked on the team and likes the other guys.

Next season will be the "surprisingly good Iowa."

Dang. Anyone dogging a coach as the sole reason for success or failure doesn't understand coaching. You can disagree with him (which I do) but I wouldn't rip any coach for any level of success.

Also, some people don't have aspirations to coach above high school. You can make an impact on so many lives and teach people to love the game.
Thank you. You can now switch back to Bumper52 for your next message. TROLL
Oh, your forgot to mention did your two boys play basketball for you or were not allowed to be daddy's boys?

Yes, but I was a DIII baseball coach.
Any Coach who wins 74% of their games has something other Coaches want. Good players.

That said, my Thanks to all Coaches and Referees out there who help make the Sporting World go round. Couldn't do it without either.

I played inter murals back at the field house in the early 70’s. Mostly got my ass kicked, but had a pretty good coed flag football team. Girls were tough!

You are an ass and do not deserve to EVER be called “coach”. You have NO class and I am ashamed to share the title “. with you.

So, another coach says I have no class? Let be enlighten you on a few details.
Coach, have you or your assistants had to pick up players on a routine basis to get them on a he bus for a game? I have

Coach, have you ever coached a team that on a yearly basis, had the majority of players that had never been to McDonalds? I have.

Coach, have you ever coached players who were given a cheese sandwich from the school before a road game? A frickin cheese sandwich to kids that probably didn’t eat lunch. I have.

Coach, did you ever coach a team who out of 12 players, 9 didn’t know where and/or who there biological father was? I have.

Coach, did you ever have a player say yes couldn’t make it to the game because he was visiting his dad in prison? I have

Coach, did you ever have your team over for Thanksgiving and most of them had never eaten turkey? I have

Coach, have you ever played a full varsity season where only parents were allowed to attend because of potential gang problems? And, of course no parents came anyway. I have.
So, what’s my point? I get on this forum. I post stats. I express my opinion that Toussaint and Murray deserve more minutes. Holy crap the world came to an end. So, try to give myself some credibility telling everyone I had coached HS basketball for 25 years and feel I understand the game. I was called a liar, a douche bag, a troll, etc. Well, you can probably tell by experiences coaching, I was at inner city schools....in Chicago. That is the route I chose. If I had to do it over again, probably not. Not because of the kids....lack of support from the school. I saw tons of talented players, most of whom did not play school ball. I guess my whole point is this. I’ve had a lot of bigger fish to fry in my life than worrying about name calling on some talk forum. So you, being a coach yourself, makes me wonder who is an ass, who doesn’t show any class. It really doesn’t matter in the whole scheme of life. It’s just a talk forum where oeople should be allowed to express their opinions. This forum, however, has changed dramatically from the Lute-Dr. Tom eras. (because of so much negativity)). I’ll just say one more thing from Bobby Knight. He sais there are two pairs of simple English words that make a world of difference in a person’s perspective. Hear-listen. Look-see. If you listen and see, you will have a much more objective outlook of life...,what is really important and what isn’t. By the way, Bobby just turned 80 in October. Not doing too well, but maintaining.

JMO /// You brought up Bobby Knight....Great coach but in todays world would be sued and run out of basketball...

I like both Fran's kids. They are fierce competitors and that is valuable. Connor is very important to this team, and Patrick is useless right now. Patrick does need minutes but much less than what he is getting. Keagan is a much more athletic and tallented player. Just wish Keagan has Patrick's fearlessness and feisteness. It is sad Fran did not teach them proper shooting technique. Connor jumps and then lifts arms and every jumpshot is different and uncoordinated. I still cannot figure out Patrick's hands when he is shooting. Apart from excessive Patrick's minutes, I like our rotation. Love how Nunge is developing. That is kid is very tallented. Next two years will be a lot of fun watching him and Keagan develop. Like Ulis' potential too.

Patrick has been at Iowa a year longer. He's only averaging a minute and a half mor time than Keegan, and that is skewed from earlier games. Both are playing about the same now. Their stats are pretty close to the same. I have no problems with both players getting similar minutes.

100% agreement....this is a really good things for Hawkeye fans. These two guys, Kris Murray, and PS coming in next year. That gives us some forwards that can shoot, drive, play defense and are pretty interchangeable....although different, this really helps the diversity of our team.
