Especially good to hear a little something from Thelwell. Appears to be a team-first leader, which is what you want at PG. I think PG play will determine more than anything whether Iowa can really compete near the top of the B1G.
I don't know why these kids come into the program without hitting the weights. Are they naive to the fact that D1 Bball is physical? They have from the end of their senior basketball season in March, until October to start lifting weights and improve their body to enable them to compete at a high level.
Pryce certainly should have been aware. Some kids just need more time to mature.I don't know why these kids come into the program without hitting the weights. Is this Fran's fault for not providing them with a workout regimen? I would think all college coaches would advise their (skinny/weaker) recruits "we expect you to add 10-15 lbs of muscle before the start of your freshman season. Here's what our strength & conditioning coaches have put together, along with a proper diet to achieve this". Should not be that difficult to get a head start on transforming their bodies to compete in the Big10.
Washington State, Iowa State, and Utah State all finished top 25 ranked. I believe Illinois only has 2 teams (Arkansas and Alabama?)that finished top 25. Yes, there are cupcakes on the Iowa schedule just like Eastern Illinois and SIUE on the Illinois schedule. I would expect Illinois to have a more competitive schedule coming off a top 25 season and pre-season rankings. Who is tougher opponent Utah or Mizzou? Did Mizzou win a conference game last year?
You do know that Fran has a trainer to help the players get stronger, but Fran has never made it a priority to bulk up players and likes to rely on agility and quickness. Supposedly, Owen gained over 20lbs, Brock over 13lb and you can see that Pryce and Ladji have all gained muscle over the summer. It will be interesting to see how the increased weight translates to wins.I don't know why these kids come into the program without hitting the weights. As he should. But my gripe is these kids coming off their HS senior season have 7 months (March - Oct) to start lifting. After a freshman season of physical Big10 play, now they start putting on muscle? Start sooner & come in ready to take & dish out some physicality. You do know that Fran has a trainer to help the players get stronger, but Fran has never made it a priority to bulk up players and likes to rely on agility and quickness. You confessed that you are a 5-10 white dude. Really, do you feel that inadequate that you have to have Snoop Dog as your avatar. I bet you were some physical specimen in college. Not every player develops like magic and within as you say 7 months, it takes hard work and more calories then you could consume in a day. but continue to show how smart you are by now attacking freshman players, of all people, and I'm assuming Iowa players, that they don't physically prepare for college like you think they should. Remember Iowa is a developmental basketball program and yes, the season has not started yet, Riley Mulvey may surprise you all or maybe not, it's a long season.'reAs he

Quite the opposite. I'm comfortable enough to have a black man wearing an Iowa sweatshirt as my avatar. Sorry if that bothers a racist like you. I knew as a sophomore in HS I needed to get stronger & started lifting weights to not get pushed off the ball. I went from 145 lbs to 160lbs probably due to a growth spurt, but definitely gained muscle tone. BTW I received athletic scholarships in both basketball & baseball. You confessed that you are a 5-10 white dude. Really, do you feel that inadequate that you have to have Snoop Dog as your avatar. No, I'm not racist, and in high school I wasn't very good in any sports either, so you have me there. I have to agree with your closing statement that Riley might have left HS too early which could have been detrimental to his college development, but like you and others I'm not going to dismiss the fact that there is still some potential there with 2 years left. Let's see what transpires in the next few months.Quite the opposite. I'm comfortable enough to have a black man wearing an Iowa sweatshirt as my avatar. Sorry if that bothers a racist like you. It doesn't take 5,000 calories to build muscle tone. This isn't football & unless they're playing center/power forward they typically don't need to add 30 lbs. They just need to gain strength. I'm not attacking freshman players as much as I'm asking the question. Fran should have them lifting before they even get on campus. They've basically admitted they don't come in physically prepared by telling everyone they are now hitting the weights AFTER their freshman season. CAN YOU COMPREHEND THAT? Did you even make it through the 8th grade in the crappy Illinois school system?
Riley has already surprised me by being nothing more than a bench warmer for his career. This is a guy who skipped his senior year in HS to come to Iowa & has done nothing, zero, zip. He should never have left HS early.
fair is fair... & I'll gladly take the verbal lashing & enjoy the season if he breaks out. believe it or not, I root for smaller white guys. I'm just rational in doing so. And as I've said, I admire & appreciate the homerism... we all root for our hometown hero's.No, I'm not racist, and in high school I wasn't very good in any sports either, so you have me there. We have been at each other for the last 5 months trading insults back and forth. I've been called a jock sniffer a homer, and other things and I've been irrational with comments about you, it's time to bury the hatchet and instead spent our time enjoying the upcoming season.
All I ask is, if the word on the street is that Brock is indeed the starting point guard, give him a chance to let him show you that indeed he is something special. If he fails you and others have all the right in the world to burn me to the ground with no mercy.
Fair enough, this season is going to be epic....in a subdued way, of coarse.fair is fair... & I'll gladly take the verbal lashing & enjoy the season if he breaks out. believe it or not, I root for smaller white guys.
