Mediapolis' Drew Miller will be the Punter for Georgia in the CFP

Georgia confirmed this week that popular senior and Ray Guy Award finalist Brett Thorson is out for the season.

What’s Georgia’s top backup option? That would be Drew Miller. He’s a talent that could have started for a lot of teams in the SEC, much less the 12-team college football playoffs.

Miller signed with the 2024 class with a lot of fanfare. He was rated the No. 1 punter in America for 247Sports, On3 and their respective industry composites. Chris Sailer Kicking and Kohl’s Kicking, the industry standards in ranking specialists, also both named him first-team All-America after his senior season.

“He would be our punter, and we think he’s really talented, and he does a great job, and he’s worked really hard to get the opportunity,” Smart said of Miller. “He punts every day in practice and does a tremendous job. He’s a very highly recruited kid who we’ve got a lot of confidence in.”

MaxPreps.com also named him to its All-American first team for the third year in a row for his class.

While Australian punters are all the rage, Miller’s backstory from the cornfields of Iowa serves Georgia well here.

He’s also a football player. Not just a leg cannon.

Miller’s football background features highlights on the offensive side. As a dual-threat QB for his high school team, he ran and threw for touchdowns.

Not sure I ever knew, but if I did, I’ve long forgotten. Why didn’t Iowa offer him? Was it because we had Dakin in the pipeline already?

Especially in a year or two when it’s bypassed by the new 4-lane.
Ottumwa was bypassed by the four-lane. I watch a few guys on YouTube... They restore cars anyway they are driving through Iowa headed to Tennessee or St Louis... Always watch out for Ottumwa when they're filming.... Of course not only films of eddyville
